Activites at Chater Lodge Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Maria Durrant
Activities Coordinator
Hello. I am Maria and I have lived in Ketton for most of my life. I worked at the local primary school before joining Chater Lodge in 2019.
My first role here was as a Dining Host and have now found my passion in creating an interesting and inclusive programme of activities for all our residents.
I like having fun with residents, dressing up, singing songs and celebrating special events. I love being a part of the team here and my career change to Activities Coordinator is the best thing I have ever done.
Celebrating life at Chater Lodge Care Home

Celebrating Carers Week
The month of June saw the home and local community come together to celebrate the incredible carers at Chater lodge.
We would like to say a special thank you to our Chater Lodge superheroes who go the extra mile and spread joy to all our residents. Their dedication and compassion shine through in every act, whether it's a kind word, a gentle touch, or simply being there to listen.
To all the carers out there, a massive THANK YOU - you're absolutely fantastic!
Meet the High Sheriff
Richard Chesterfield, the High Sheriff of Rutland, has visited Barchester’s Chater Lodge Care Home in Oakham to spend time with residents and staff and to share insights into his historic role.
Mr. Chesterfield joined residents and guests at the home on Wednesday 27th May, where he spoke about the history and responsibilities of the High Sheriff’s office. Residents were fascinated to learn about the traditions and duties associated with the role, and enjoyed engaging in conversation with Mr. Chesterfield. The visit was accompanied by refreshments and a delightful selection of homemade cakes, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all.

Dementia Action Week - Disco
We carried on our Dementia Action Week activities with a fun filled afternoon disco!
Residents prepared for the disco by bringing out their dancing shoes, leg warmers, glowsticks, and 80s-themed attire.
It was a wonderful afternoon made even more special with our visiting families joining their loved ones.
Dementia Action Week - Art Exhibition
As part of Dementia Action Week, we were delighted to accept an invitation from our dear friends at Dementia South Lincs to attend their art exhibition at the Red Hall in Bourne.
It was wonderful to witness our residents engaging with the members of Dementia South Lincs and the community present at the event. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the group for their generosity and warm hospitality.

Local groups come together for Mental Health Awareness Week
Led by Changing Connections Rutland a group of community partners have come together to support two of our villages during Mental Health Awareness Week.
Alongside the Chater Lodge Care Home in Ketton, Citizens Advice Rutland, Rutland County Council, P3 Charity, Rob Persani from Rutland and Stamford Sound and the Cadence RCC Mobile Advice Centre,
The groups visited Manton Village Hall and the Glaston Village Hall to meet and speak with the community about schemes and events taking place in the local community for those living in or affected by isolation.
VE-Day 80
Today has been an extraordinary day as we united with the nation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
This morning, we were delighted to welcome Nicky, a talented female vocalist, who debuted at the home with a stirring performance of wartime classics, while our residents enjoyed Pimm's and Sherry. celebrations continued in the afternoon with a vibrant, street-themed tea party.
We were honoured by the presence of Councillor Paul Ainsley, Mayor of Oakham, alongside our cherished friend Sue from Great Casterton Church, and an unexpected visit from the wonderful Rob Persani of Rutland & Stamford Sound. It was a perfect conclusion to a truly remarkable day.

Making Wishes Come True
Continuing our mission to fulfil the wishes of our residents, it was a pleasure to make Bill's wish a reality. Bill's wish was simple yet meaningful—a visit to a record store, as he is an enthusiastic collector of vinyl records.
He was in his element at the ‘Rock On’ record shop in Stamford, engaging with the shop assistant, Dave.
Bill spent time browsing through the records while Dave played them for him. Bill sang along, enjoyed lively conversations, and eventually spotted a record from his past that he had saved for weeks to buy—now a valuable treasure!
Local History Comes to Life
Our recently hosted an engaging event featuring local historian Jay Naylor. Jay presented a series of films and spoke about the rich history of Ketton and the surrounding area, incorporating Super 8 video technology to bring the past to life.
Among the historical events Jay discussed was the Queen's visit in 1967, which was captured on a Super 8 camera by Jay's great-grandfather and preserved in remarkable quality. Jay also shared his recent campaign to save the local redwood trees and his passionate project to plant a new grove of these iconic trees for future generations.
Lambs Bring Smiles
The home was full of animal mischief when a group of baby lambs came to visit the home. Residents were pleasantly surprised to see their new furry friends roaming around their garden as Phoenix Children's Charity paid a visit.
General Manager Zoe said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitors today. We knew that having the lambs here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus. We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”
