Activities at Cherry Trees Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual social events for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local theatre, as well as visits from Pat dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host bingo, quiz and knitter natter afternoons that we encourage relatives and the local community to attend. Our Gentleman's Club is also open to non-residents every Thursday afternoon from 2:30pm, join us for a tipple of your choice, we have plenty of snacks and chats. For the ladies, our beauty salon provides; hairdressing and nail pampering, you too can enjoy a drink and some well-deserved 'me' time. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Cherry Trees is fun and active.

The Queen's Birthday Celebrations

On the 13th June, 2020 our Queen celebrates her second, and official birthday. This year there was an extra incentive for our Barchester homes to join in the festivities as we were invited to design, bake and decorate a cake (or cakes) fit for the Queen. Residents and our fantastic 2nd chef; Ayshat Gandova came together to design a showstopper of a birthday cake in the hope of winning £250 Bidfood vouchers.

Special thanks goes to Libby Osborne, daughter of the manager of Cherry Trees; Debbie Osborne who made and presented to the home a second beautiful cake in honour of Her Majesty’s birthday. Both of which have been entered into the competition.

Our residents were treated to a full day of fun-filled activities, cream teas and of course cake tasting. The Queen’s birthday was marked with a small celebration at Windsor Castle, where the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are staying in isolation. Some of our residents tuned in to watch a Royal Salute from the military, led by The Welsh Guard and massed Bands of the Household Division, which replaced the Trooping the Colour after it was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Remembering D-Day 1944

The residents of Cherry Trees Care Home in Alcester, took time to remember the bravery shown by all service personnel during the Normandy Beaches operation and subsequent battles on 6th June 1944.

They wished to celebrate and give thanks to one of our D-Day veterans; Fredrick Lloyd Brookes in recognition of his service during the campaign. Lloyd received the Legion d'honneur medal and we thanked him and all who serviced alongside him that day.

Residents of Memory Lane made crosses to pin on our D-Day remembrance collage. We had a beautiful afternoon tea while watching clips of 1944, and films of the era, rounding the celebratory day off with a good old sing-song.
