Activities at Cherry Trees Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual social events for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local theatre, as well as visits from Pat dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host bingo, quiz and knitter natter afternoons that we encourage relatives and the local community to attend. Our Gentleman's Club is also open to non-residents every Thursday afternoon from 2:30pm, join us for a tipple of your choice, we have plenty of snacks and chats. For the ladies, our beauty salon provides; hairdressing and nail pampering, you too can enjoy a drink and some well-deserved 'me' time. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Cherry Trees is fun and active.

I have a real passion to enrich the lives of our residents and make them as special as they can be. Life at Cherry Trees Care Home

Scarecrow Festival

This July we are pleased to be taking part in the Scarecrow Festival organised by the local Oversley Green Residents’ Association. Our residents have worked together to design and build three scarecrows (with a little bit of help from the Activities Team) and the trio can be seen on display outside the home until the end of the month. It’s important to us that we support our residents to get involved in community events and we will be taking groups of residents out to look at our neighbours creations throughout the festival.

Volunteer of the Year

Malcolm Jackson at Cherry Trees Care Home in Alcester has been crowned Volunteer of the Year for the North Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2023 and is through to the national round of judging.

The Barchester Care Awards celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 13,000 residents living in Barchester’s 252 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.

Alfie visits Cherry Trees

Alfie the Therapy Horse came to visit the home as part of our Open Weekend. Alfie and his handlers spent time going around to see residents in their rooms and residents were able to stroke and interact with him. Animal therapy is so important to us at Cherry Trees. The residents love to see animals and we love having them in the home.

Dogs Trust

Residents across our homes had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Jennifer and Emily from Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity. Jennifer and Emily took us on a journey to discover the rich history of Dogs Trust and their facilities.

Using captivating video and photo footage, our residents were able to explore rehoming centres and learn more about the highest level of welfare offered there. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our dog lovers.

Art Club

This month, our Art Club have been working on watercolour paintings with NV Arts and Health. Painting is a great way to relax and focus the mind. Several of our residents have enjoyed painting throughout their lives and so it is important to us that we support them to continue with this hobby and give other residents the chance to try something new.

Scrabble Club

Some of our residents have decided to start a Scrabble Club meeting on a Thursday morning in our Multi-faith Room. Scrabble is a great way to keep the mind active and it’s also a great social activity. We welcome any new residents to come and join us for a game of Scrabble.
