Activities at Chester Court Care Home

During September, we went on a cruise around the world and stopped off at 5 different countries! We visited Australia, Greece, India, Italy and China. We enjoyed a variety of dishes from these countries prepared by our talented chef, along with crafts and activities. For Australia, we enjoyed a BBQ lunch with 'kangaroo' burgers, shrimp and kebabs, and we also tried our hand at some Aboriginal dot painting. For Greece, we enjoyed some Greek crafts, designing and painting vases, we tasted some amazing Greek food and then joined Abba in Greece for our film afternoon watching Mama Mia. In India, we enjoyed Indian curries and some Indian pampering and a film afternoon watching the Jungle Book.   

For Italy, we had a pizza making session, where residents had lots of fun creating their very own pizzas and, of course, enjoying them for lunch afterwards! And to finish off our Italian feast, we enjoyed a tasty tiramisu. 

We then got creative painting our very own Italian flags and put our knowledge to the test with an Italian general knowledge quiz. For China, we enjoyed chicken chowmein, sweet and sour pork, followed by Chinese Dragon crafts! 

Our residents had a fantastic day out at Tynemouth Aquarium! We enjoyed exploring the aquarium and seeing a wonderful variety of animals, including colourful fish, turtles, an octopus, seals, a giant lobster, and even monkeys! There was so much to see and learn throughout the day.

One of the highlights was the interactive seal show, where we watched the seals show off their skills and personalities. We even got splashed, which caused plenty of laughter and smiles! It was also a special day as we joined in celebrating one of the seal's second birthday!     

As part of the celebrations for Global Beatles Day residents enjoyed a memorable day out to a Beatles Celebration Party hosted at Age UK Ashington, where they were treated to an afternoon of live music, delicious food and fond memories of one of Britain's most beloved bands.

The special event featured live entertainment from a talented Beatles tribute act, who performed a selection of the band's greatest hits. Residents sang along to familiar songs, tapped their feet to the music and embraced the lively atmosphere as they relived the soundtrack of their younger years.

What a truly special day celebrating our lovely resident Pat on her 100th birthday! We had a wonderful birthday party complete with live entertainment, a delicious buffet, and refreshing mocktails. There was plenty of laughter, singing, dancing, and happy memories shared throughout the day.

Reaching 100 years is an incredible milestone, and we were honoured to celebrate such an amazing lady. Happy 100th Birthday Pat, thank you for letting us be part of your special day! Also, a huge thank you to everyone who sent birthday cards. She ended up receiving over 200 cards!

Our wonderful residents have been getting creative in the kitchen, baking a beautiful Easter cake to enter into the Barchester Easter Cake Competition! 

We are all very pleased with our entry and can’t wait for the next competition.      

Our residents enjoyed a fantastic day out in Morpeth to celebrate World Photography Day! 

Armed with cameras, we went out to capture some beautiful photos of the scenery, enjoy a relaxing walk along the river and take in the sights of this lovely town. After all that exploring, it was time to refuel with a delicious pizza lunch! 

What a wonderful afternoon our residents had at the Picnic Concert in Ashington Hirst Park! Everyone enjoyed spending time outdoors, soaking up the atmosphere and listening to fantastic live entertainment from Andy, who had everyone singing along.

A Care Assistant and Head of Maintenance have a received a prestigious 20 Year and 15 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 20 years and 15 years.

Emma Thompson, Care Assistant started at Barchester in 2006 and Scott Dawson, Head of Maintenance started Barchester in 2011 and have worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Laura Tindle, General Manager of Chester Court said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 35 years of loyal service with Emma and Scott. They have demonstrated their dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at Chester Court when I say that I’m looking forward to many more years of working with Emma and Scott!”

We welcomed children from West End Primary School for an afternoon of crafts, creativity, and community spirit ahead of a very special celebration. The visit was organised in honour of Pat, to celebrate her 100th birthday.              

As part of the celebrations, the children joined residents in making handmade birthday cards and colourful party decorations, including banners and bunting, to help make the milestone occasion extra memorable.

We went down the rabbit hole with our Alice in Wonderland family and community event, we had a fantastic day and we even made some new friends.

Our residents have been busy creating heartfelt thank you cards to show their appreciation for the incredible carers who make such a difference every day. 

As part of Carers Week, residents proudly presented their handmade cards as a small token of gratitude for the kindness and dedication shown by our amazing care team! It was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the hard work of our carers and to say a big THANK YOU for everything they do to support and enrich the lives of those in their care.

Happy Carers Week to all carers, your dedication does not go unnoticed!

What a wonderful day we had celebrating VE Day with our residents, families, and friends! The home was filled with music as everyone enjoyed fantastic live entertainment and came together to remember and honour such an important occasion. 

After the celebrations, families and friends joined us for a delicious 3-course meal with drinks, making it a truly special afternoon shared by all. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the day so memorable. It was lovely to see so many smiling faces and treasured moments being made together.       

Residents enjoyed a wonderful trip to Alnwick Garden, taking in the stunning scenery and attractions during a day blessed with lovely weather.

The visit gave everyone the chance to explore the garden’s famous fountains and vibrant floral displays, with residents especially enjoying the colourful flowers throughout the grounds. One of the highlights of the day was seeing the breath-taking cherry blossoms in full bloom, creating a beautiful and memorable setting for the trip.

What a truly egg-stra special day we’ve had celebrating Easter with our wonderful residents, their families, and friends! The dining room was filled with laughter, delicious food, and the joy of being together as everyone enjoyed a lovely Easter meal. 

From traditional favourites to sweet treats, there was something for everyone to enjoy. We then had a fun Easter trivia quiz. Residents teamed up with their loved ones to test their knowledge, from Easter traditions to chocolate facts. Congratulations to our winner!
