Activities at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

Our activity coordinator provides our home with a fun-packed weekly programme to engage all residents. Past activities include bread making, pottery, knitting, and card making. Not only do we run regular exercise programmes for the residents but we also have our regular entertainers come in to entertain our residents and their families. The activity coordinator visits residents on a one-to-one basis, for a chat, manicure and hand massage. The activity co-ordinator said "Residents love the one-to-ones and especially enjoy the manicure and hand massage, as not only is it stimulating but it boosts their confidence and pride in their appearance.''

Linda Lawes

Activities Coordinator

My Name is Linda and I am one of the Activities Co-ordinators at Dudwell St. Mary care home.

I joined Dudwell St Mary in April 2008 as a Housekeeping Assistant and later became the Head of Housekeeping.  In 2018 I then became an activities co-ordinator where I brought lots of new exciting ideas to the role.

I am passionate about my role within the home and aim to bring a smile to all our residents’ faces through different types of activities. My personality is bright and bubbly so aim to share this each day at work.

As I gather the residents likes and dislikes if you would like to come and chat with me about your family member please contact the home to arrange.

Life at Dudwell St Mary Care Home

Dudwell's Centenarian

One of our veteran war heroes celebrated his 100th birthday by having a tea party with fellow residents. He received his telegram from the Queen, which was kindly organised by Rosalyn Everton, who is one of our outstanding care providers that Bill is very fond of. The whole home took time to wish him a happy birthday and help him celebrate just how he wanted.

Residents Local Panto Performance

On Saturday 15th February the residents of Dudwell St Mary care home in Burwash were treated to a visit to the local village hall to see the panto, Beauty and the Beast. They all booed and cheered along with the audience and were delighted when some of the cast joined them for a photo opportunity, realising then that one of them was a member of staff from the home!

Zoolab Visit

We enjoyed a visit from Zoolab, who brought some unusual animals in for the residents to see and hold. First we had a giant snail all the way from Madagascar, then we had a hissing cockroach, then a corn snake which most of the residents either held or touched. Then we had a tarantula to look at then finally a cute little rat to hold.

Everyone was very brave with most residents held most of the animals that were offered.

Dolly the Shetland Pony

We had Dolly the Shetland pony come into our home where she was warmly greeted by our residents, all wanting to stroke Dolly. We were able to take her round for room visits, once they got over the shock of having a pony in their room, everyone loved seeing her.

Halloween

For Halloween, we did some pumpkin carving with residents. It got really messing whilst trying to get all of the seeds and flesh out from the pumpkins.

Birds of Prey

On October 28th we had 1066 Falconry bring in their birds of prey. They were very popular with all the residents, with the little owl being the fan favourite.
