"Following a nasty fall, my father needed extra care to help him recover. I arranged a ten-night stay at Dudwell St Mary. From my first phone call, the staff were very accommodating and everyone looked after dad so well. I would highly recommend their respite service to anyone in a similar situation."

"I am very happy that I chose Dudwell St Mary, Burwash for my husbands 24 hour residential care. I have been more than pleased with the care and support they have given my husband through his very complex behaviour and health problems. He became a resident because of his deteriorating condition with mixed dementia and Alzheimers in November 2017 and I am very impressed with the prompt way I have been updated and informed of everything during his time there. Sometimes a calming voice and a friendly hug can work wonders!"

"During my association with Dudwell St Mary (over 4 years), the standards of care have been excellent on the whole. When problems have arisen they have been dealt with promptly and efficiently. Because I have visited on a daily basis I have been impressed by the care, dedication, respect and consideration shown to residents."

"Extremely nice location in the countryside. Very welcoming facility with both friendly and efficient staff which is well managed. Their main focus is on the welfare and wellbeing of all the residents. The food is excellent which provides the residents with a very good selection of extremely well prepared dishes. The care home is very well furnished, clean and secure. I can certainly recommend Dudwell St Mary."

"Everyone is kind and caring and very professional. I can't fault the nursing staff at all. Brilliant. My parents would like more to do and to go out on visits."

"My parents were medically evacuated from their home as they were no longer coping and were very ill. Initial respite stabilised them and the excellent and thoughtful care from Dudwell staff has improved their lives considerably, despite being away from their home. We have converted to a permanent contract since returning home is now not viable."

"My mother has been at Dudwell for some six years now and I have never had cause to complain. Mother is very happy and well looked after. Unfortunately, she is not inclined to mix with other residents, but that is her fault - not yours. Overall - VERY happy, and the new manager is the best she's had."

"My mother spent a week here while my family and I went on holiday. I spoke to her daily and she said the staff were fantastic, really lovely. She was very well looked after and her room was lovely, she enjoyed her stay and looks forward to the next one in August! It has a very nice atmosphere."

"In some ways, difficult to compare with the competition as this is the only care home we have known in recent years. I can say though, that the nursing staff have always been very helpful, especially since my mother's health has deteriorated. They have kept us fully informed with any developments and have shown a caring attitude. It is good to see a new general manager is now in place."

"After a lengthy stay in hospital following a fall, my 91-year-old father found himself in need of permanent care. Social services recommended this home amongst a few others. When I visited I was pleasantly surprised at the high standards exhibited. The place is spotless and the staff appear cheerful and professional. If you needed somewhere at the twilight of your days, then you could do a lot worse than here."

"Having visited other care homes in the area (East Sussex), I was impressed by the staff, facilities, friendliness and layout of the Dudwell St Mary care home. Clean rooms with windows she could look out onto nice views, comfortable, small, intimate dining areas (not one big institutional canteen as in other homes), wide corridors. Here the staff had time for the residents to get to know the likes and dislikes of the residents and treat them with dignity."

"Upon my visit I was offered coffee and cake, staff warm and welcoming. General cleanliness of the building is outstanding and rooms kept very clean. All residents seem very happy and the management are always to hand to ask any questions. Very impressed with the decor, not your typical home."

"I was visiting the care home today and I felt compelled to share what a great place it is. I have spent a lot of time in various care homes as my granddad had dementia and needed full-time specialist care. But I have never had such a pleasant visit. The grounds were immaculate but it was the staff that made it extra special. All of them were so friendly and pleasant especially the manager who was a joy to be around. You couldn't leave without feeling happier than when you arrived"

"Very good staff, friendly and caring. Any problems are dealt with straight away by senior nurses and carers. Kitchen staff, cleaners and the laundry man are always willing to please."

"I can't thank the manager and team enough for the care and compassion they have shown not only my Father who is using the short break service, but also towards my Mum who is his primary carer. Looking after Dad can be incredibly difficult so respite is much needed; knowing Dad is being looked after by kind and caring staff who treat him with respect means that Mum can really relax and recharge her batteries. Can't rate highly enough."

"My dad moved into the home for a couple of weeks respite and has now been there for four weeks. He is enjoying the company and activities and is so much better than when he arrived. His care has been excellent and the food is great too. A very welcoming home with caring carers."

"Of necessity, my review and comments are only first impressions, given that my friend's mother has only been at Dudwell St Mary for 11 days. However, those first impressions are generally most positive. On our preliminary visits to the home, I was struck by the calm and friendly atmosphere and the overall environment engendered. The grounds are kept immaculately and the staff seem willing to help in any way they can. My friend's mother seemed to have settled in very well and very quickly after an unhappy last few months at her previous care home. Well done."

"My mother has only been here for 11 days, but I am nevertheless more than happy to complete this review on first impressions. On entering Dudwell St Mary, I was immediately struck by the immaculately tended gardens and the calm and serene atmosphere. All the staff are happy and friendly and have been kind to my mother. The nurses are very vigilant, right down to supplying me with all the relevant information for my mother's trip to the dentist. The manager clearly operates an open door policy and is willing to discuss any points I may wish to raise. Mum has settled quickly after a 4 and a half year stay at another home."

"My mother was here for just under two weeks for post hip replacement surgery convalescence. She is 87, very forgetful and gets confused easily. She has difficulty processing information, hence unable to complete this form herself. We are very happy with the care that was provided here and with the very warm and friendly and very patient manner of all the staff. With sincere gratitude thanks from all the family on her behalf."

"Following a long stay in the hospital and a hospice, Mum had a month here before she came home. The building is pleasing and spotlessly clean and the food is great. The most important thing for us was the care mum received and I had no worries there at all. I have been a nurse for 38 years, and not once in the month mum was there did I worry about how mum was being treated. If you have been a full-time carer responsible for decisions made for another you will understand what a relief it was to have a conscientious team take over some of the burdens for a while. Mum or I only needed to highlight something and it was sorted out. The staff were unfailing kind and helpful and I saw some genuinely touching caring attitudes towards the less able residents. I can't name names here but thank you, guys. I needed a break to recharge my batteries for times ahead and I got that. We hope to see you soon."

"My mother was enrolled at Dudwell St.Mary (Barchester) after three years of having live-in carers in her own home. This arrangement became unsatisfactory when her night-time wandering increased and a second carer has to be arranged to provide adequate 24 hour cover. My mother settled into Dudwell St. Mary within a few days and we have been impressed by the kindness and care shown. A few organisational 'slips' (running out of paper towel) have not detracted to any real degree."

"My mother has received the most wonderful care during her stay at Dudwell. The staff have treated her with the utmost care and respect and have also supported us during this difficult time. The team have encouraged my mother to eat something she struggled with at home, and have made her days more peaceful than I had thought possible."

"My mother has been resident at Dudwell St Mary since September 2007. The home handled her transition with all the anxieties, gently and carefully. We have had consistently good care. As her strength has diminished the care needs have changed. She has been consistently and gently cared for. Now she is asleep almost all the time. Care standard have been very high. The home has responded quickly to any and all of our concerns as soon as they are raised."

"I have found Dudwell St Mary to be a warm and friendly home with excellent caring staff and a very pleasant environment. It is clean and very well presented. My mum is happy there in her ground floor room where she's allowed numerous bird feeders outside her window! I am kept informed about her welfare and we are allowed to come and go freely and always offered tea and very often a meal. I am very happy that mum is living there."

"Staff very friendly and caring- father settled in well. More staff could be with residents at meal times. Some residents who become agitated and verbal could be encouraged to engage with others activities so as not to upset quieter, vulnerable residents. Some residents find language and behaviour of others upsetting- maybe use quieter area for quieter residents as can be upset."

"My wife is being cared for in a very kind and loving way. She is treated as an individual. The staff take time to listen even when really busy. Response to call bells is prompt. Choice of food is always given. It is a happy and caring place. I spend six hours a day with my wife to have time to observe."

"Exceptional. Conscientious. Impeccable. Safe. Trustworthy. 10/10 The needle in the haystack when it comes to finding the very best care home, with the very best care, the very best staff, and the very best manager. Add to all of the above, and more in terms of praiseworthy, Dudwell is a haven of peace, calm and beauty. My mum is here now and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Absolutely Outstanding."

"My husband suffered 18 years of PD and diagnosed with myeloma in February 2016 and spent the last six months of his life at Dudwell St. Mary. Management - any issues I raised were resolved quickly and tactfully. Nursing - a very efficient team who delivered complex medication largely on time. Carers - never complained about what they were asked to do, however often. I felt all these highly professional people also became our friends. I was welcomed and invited to share a meal with my husband. End of Life - sensitive and caring. All personnel took the time to talk to my husband and me, whenever."

"The entire team from manager to all care staff have consistently provided excellent care for my Grandmother over the past 2 1/2 years. The carers treated my Gran with compassion and dignity as well as great patience. The team appeared happy and stable creating a lovely homely atmosphere on memory lane. When my gran was dying all the carers were so kind, gentle and respectful. Out of the 4 homes my gran experienced, Barchester Dudwell St Mary was by far the best in every way!"

"We are very happy with our fathers care at Dodwell St Mary. The home is very clean and tidy and there has been investment in decoration. The food is good and so is the nursing care. My dad is on a dementia ward which is always challenging but the staff treat him with dignity and care. We are very pleased with the manager and staff."

"Our stay at the home has always been welcome by all the members of staff in all areas we go to. My father has enjoyed his time at the care home and is always happy to return back after he goes out, which he does regularly. The care home is always being re-decorated where and when needed and I look forward to seeing the rest of the complex completed."

"The first impression we received when visiting Dudwell St Mary was an atmosphere of warmth, kindness and welcome. We met several members of the staff, all of whom were friendly and smiling, We were offered tea or coffee, which we accepted with pleasure. The public rooms are sensitively furnished with warm reds and browns and the temperature is kept at a comfortable level. Our daughter, who has been here about one month, seems to like the environment, food and staff. From what we have seen, we would say she is lucky to be a resident at Dudwell St Mary."

"I cannot praise all the staff at Dudwell St Mary Care Home enough. They are all exemplary and work to the highest standard. I appreciate their attention to detail, listening skills, policy of transparency, genuine kindness, cooperation, respect and level of hygiene, which is five star. The buildings smell fresh like a family home. It is set in wonderful and peaceful countryside. I know mum is safe, secure, cared for and loved. I have peace of mind. Dudwell deserves the highest of awards. I never have to worry about mum’s safety or her physical, emotional and mental well-being. She is cared for with the utmost quality and dignity and is utterly respected. Mum has a beautiful room with a beautiful view and she is very settled. I cannot recommend this care/nursing home highly enough. It is not just the hygiene that is five star, it is every aspect of Dudwell St Mary, from the setting, the buildings, the staff, the management and catering. If only all care/nursing homes were like Dudwell St Mary."
