Activities at Elgar Court Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Activities Leader

Hello, My name is Kerrie and I provide the unique life enrichment for residents at Elgar Court.  I moved to Malvern 12 years ago to live with my fiance and we have two tortoises and a snake.  I love to play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends.  I am very 'outdoorsy' and used to ride horses and compete nationally in athletics, specialising in track and field for Redditch and Bromsgrove athletics club.  In my spare time, I love being in the kitchen and making treats for my family.

Celebrating life at Elgar Court Care Home

All things WILD!

All things WILD!

We welcomed a very special group to our home, with Dave from Reptomania. Dave came to share his love of exotic animals the varied from snakes and lizards to African giant snails and cherry legged millipede.

Residents were delighted and enthralled - and sometimes with a little bit of encouragement to hold or stroke the different animals. One particular residents Leslie has always been fearful of snakes but by the end she was happy to say her mind was changed and now she is happier to be around them. She loved how the little white ball python, called pearl, felt as soft as velvet. And Jenny fell in love with the all the different animals and had a wonderful time holding them.

We can't wait to see them again!

Another day, another FUN trip!

Another day, another FUN trip!

Every week our residents look forward to trips out and about both locally and far and wide! This week we went to Webbs of Wychbold garden centre in Droitwich to get inspiration from their displays - and then put thinking caps on garden design over a nice cold drink in the café.

Happy 106th Birthday Alice!

Happy 106th Birthday Alice!

Today we celebrated the Queen of our home, Alice Foulkes’s 106th Birthday.

What an honour and a privilege it is to care for this wonderful lady and ensure she enjoys every day.
After a special breakfast, Alice welcomed BBC Radio and the News team to interview her about her wonderful life and her secrets to staying young!   Later that day more birthday party jollities, with games and music from the 1920s and the Birthday cake and bubbles to share with everyone – and naturally, Alice’s favourite, a tipple of Baileys.

As you can imagine, there were many presents and a mountain of birthday cards for Alice from local schools, her friends, well wishers and of course, King Charles and Queen Camilla. Ruby and Lacey visited from Malvern Wyche School to give Alice her cards, and they spied Alice’s requested evening tea….it was chocolate biscuits, ice cream and juice - Well at 106 years old, you can have anything you want!

What a wonderful day and a big thank you from Alice, for all the love everyone has given her today!
Delightful D'Artagnan!

From music with the Malvern Ukuleles, decorating our home with pictures from local schools, painting eggs, a cracking Good Friday Coffee morning and attending a church service. And in recognition of the day, our talented chef prepared a delicious feast for all to enjoy, and always, we’ve had an amazing time.
Some of our Residents from decorated a small tree for Easter today. After we had finished we realised the rabbits should be on the seat!! and the bees on the tree!!
From all of our residents to our friends in the local communities, Happy Easter from us to you!
No 'Rocky' starts here!

No 'Rocky' starts here!

We always encourage residents to share their special skills and this week, Jenny enjoyed teaching our chef and kitchen team her secret reciepe for 'Rock cakes'! Fun was had by all and we especially enjoyed eating these served with afternoon tea.

Lizzies Farm

Lizzies Farm

What a lovely sunny week it was last week when our residents took off to Bromsgrove to visit a lovely little farm at the edge of Catshill called Lizzies Farm. Home to Highland cows and many other animals our residents got to enjoy some hands care with the baby lambs, a highland cow - and even got to witness the birth of a newborn baby boy lamb!
Our residents Sheila and Leslie said the drive over was spectacular and that animals were all so wonderfully looked after. Sheila who used to live on a farm was was impressed by how clean the farm was. And Joan loved saying hello to the lambs that where in the barn for hand rearing
Mud, Mud Glorious Mud!

Mud, Mud Glorious Mud!

It was all hands on deck while the sun was out this past week. Our residents have been getting very busy preparing the allotment for all the veggies they already have growing in the potting shed.
Our Residents want to give a huge thank you to the Malvern Town Council and our wonderful Mayoress Cllr Marilyn Birks for providing the home with plenty of compost to keep the project going for another year.
What an EGG-CELLENT Start to Easter!

What an EGG-CELLENT Start to Easter!

Our Good Friday Coffee Morning was a HUGE success, where we welcomed Councillor Marilyn Birks, Mayor of Malvern and guests from the community to help raise funds for Malvern Special Families. We had an amazing array of Chocolate Eggs and Raffle prizes to win and delicious cakes for everyone to enjoy.

Councillor Marilyn Birks, Mayor of Malvern has nominated Malvern Special Families as her chosen charity for 2026, and along with the Charity’s Trustee Cllr Clive Fletcher, they both were delighted to tell residents and the community all about Malvern Special Families and the difference they make to children and young peoples lives.

Cllr Clive Fletcher had the honour and fun time of picking and calling out the Raffle ticket numbers – as you can see from the happy faces of some of the winners, they were thrilled with the generous gifts our home had thoughtfully put together.
Thank you to everyone who came to our home.

Malvern Priory Park in the Sunshine

Staying local this week, our Residents got out and enjoyed the wonderful sunshine at Priory Park which inspired CS Lewis's Narnia, and admired the scenery, watched the ducks waddling around and ate ice cream!

Residents got together to celebrate National Beer Day by enjoying a tasting afternoon by sampling what they would enjoy the most at our home. It was unanimous that the top drink was in fact the Bulmers Cider closely followed by both Becks and Carling larger!
Parkinsons Awareness

Parkinsons Awareness

We supported Parkinson's Awareness last week and welcomed members of our local Parkinsons Group and community. Led by Jenny, we found out all about living with Parkinsons and the support we can seek living with the condition.
Jenny runs a Parkinson's group at Clarence Park Village once a month, where current and new guests can get advice and share support amongst the friendly meeting. Jenny also showed us all how to make the new Parkinson's emblem in the form of an origami Tulip!
Springtime Forever Flowers!

Springtime Forever Flowers!

This afternoon we sat down in the cafe for a craft activity, making pipe cleaner flowers, some for Easter (It is amazing what you can make too!) Everyone enjoyed the afternoon crafting, chatting and in the back ground watching live on a tablet the Blue Tits busy making their nest for this year
