Activities at Elgar Court Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Kerrie Perks

Kerrie Perks

Activities Leader

Hello, My name is Kerrie and I provide the unique life enrichment for residents at Elgar Court.  I moved to Malvern 12 years ago to live with my fiance and we have two tortoises and a snake.  I love to play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends.  I am very 'outdoorsy' and used to ride horses and compete nationally in athletics, specialising in track and field for Redditch and Bromsgrove athletics club.  In my spare time, I love being in the kitchen and making treats for my family.

Celebrating life at Elgar Court Care Home

Springtime Forever Flowers!

Springtime Forever Flowers!

This afternoon we sat down in the cafe for a craft activity, making pipe cleaner flowers, some for Easter (It is amazing what you can make too!) Everyone enjoyed the afternoon crafting, chatting and in the back ground watching live on a tablet the Blue Tits busy making their nest for this year
Everyone is flocking to our home!

Everyone is flocking to our home!

The Blue tit family are back again and starting to build their nest. Last year's nest was left in the camera nest box as it was in such good condition. Last week we noticed the male for the first time and already the nest has a hint of blue feathers!
We will update our three displays (one on each floor) weekly so that all our residents can watch Mr and Mrs Blue Tit raising yet another family with Mum on the eggs, young hatching, Dad feeding and the young growing up before flying away as in previous years. Here you can see our residents Jenny and Brenda designing the displays.
Wonderful Words, Words, Words!

Wonderful Words, Words, Words!

Our residents love a word game, and this week we had to make as many words as possible out of the word 'herbaceous'. On average, our wonderful mentally agile residents average over 100 words each time we play this game with different words!

St Patrick's Day - Baking Soda Bread with friends

St Patrick's Day - Baking Soda Bread with friends

Saint Patrick's Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick is a religious and cultural holiday held around the world. So to mark this occasion, today residents made Irish soda bread, which was traditionally made with just four ingredients: flour, baking soda, salt, and buttermilk, making it accessible during times of scarcity, such as the Irish Potato Famine.
Julia and Janardan spent tie making loaves this morning to share with residents and doesn't the end results look delicious with the shamrock decoration!
Musical Memories

Musical Memories

This morning we met to have some musical memories which our residents enjoyed especially as we looked through some old LP’s and played them on the record player. Yvonne one of our residents said she really enjoyed reminiscing to some of her favourites such as Neil Diamond, and Bill particularly liked the musicals.
What EGG-CELLENT Easter Egg Designs!

What EGG-CELLENT Easter Egg Designs!

Our home is filled with wonderful pictures from local school children, who were invited to design a Easter egg pictures for residents to enjoy over Easter and display around our home. We were blown away by the absolutely lovely pictures given to our residents and as you can see, our residents loved looking through them and picking their favourites! One of our school winners was Brooke from Leigh & Bransford school and she was thoroughly thrilled to win as she spent so long doing her design. Brooke said 'I never win anything!' Well we are glad you entered Brooke!
Thank you to all of the lovely children that took part from the following schools (- each entrant got a mini egg too);  St Matthias C of E Primary School,  Callow End C of E Primary School, Powick C of E Primary School,  Leigh & Bransford Primary School, - Madresfield C Of E Primary School
Scrabble done properly!

Scrabble done properly!

People always wonder what our residents get up to in the evening at Elgar Court. For some residents it's hot chocolate, reading or TV and for others, it's an evening of Scrabble with wine and a platter of cheese and biscuits! Everyone has different ideas of what they like to do and we are always happy to ensure this happens!
Out and About - Laylocks

Out and About - Laylocks

Our residents love a jaunt around the countryside, and this week we travelled over to Laylocks to get some more ideas for our gardens. The weather was wonderful and our residents had so many ideas from walking around this garden center - hanging baskets, planters and even installing a water feature! It's hungry work, and of course there's always tea and cake afterwards!

We had a wonderful afternoon tea with our residents and community to celebrate Mother's Day. A delightful spread of finger sandwiches, petit fours, scones and cream, profiteroles and cakes were enjoyed by all.
Morgan Cars - A Landmark of Malvern History

Morgan Cars - A Landmark of Malvern History

Morgan Cars - A Landmark of Malvern History
Residents from Elgar Court joined Age UK for a tour around the Morgan car factory. All the men were picking out their dreams cars along the way and learning new facts about the making of a Morgan Car.
Did you know that a car is build by only 1 person and they can build 14 cars a week? Ken was really looking forward to this adventure and was keen to get started. Hugh said ‘ it was very interesting to learn about the type of wood they use and where it comes from’.

The weekend is approaching and our residents all make use of the in-house salon and wellbeing treatments available to them. Here, Joan is having her nails done by our Activities Co-ordinator Kerrie, and has chosen a rather chic springtime Blue!
Life doesn't have to stop when you move into a carehome, at Elgar Court, life gets better!
Welcome to Springtime!

Welcome to Springtime!

Over the past few weeks, residents have been preparing for spring and planting seeds for a summer crop of flowers, fruit and vegetables. There's no stopping our green fingered residents, and gardening prep took place inside and out and we were really grateful for the Mayor of Malvern, Councillor Marilyn Birks who arranged for soil to be dropped off to fill our plant containers and community allotment - which we started this last year.
Why not come along and have a look around our gardens and enjoy tea with our residents? Tel: 01684 211720

Dementia Fundraising Walk from Malvern to Worcester!

Arriving at our home, Danni and her team from Latimer Court were welcomed with a tray of bacon sandwiches and snacks ready for their 12 mile walk back to their care home in Worcester. Joining them was one of our resident' Jenny who walk part of the Malvern route with them, and walking them out of our home was Alice, our 105 year old resident to wish them well!
