Activities at Field House Care Home
The Activities Coordinators here at Field House are always keen to learn about residents' interests and hobbies, tailoring meaningful activities to the likes and dislikes of those we support. Our mission is to ignite the past, appeal to current interests and embrace new ones, improving quality of life whilst stimulating the mind and senses. Activities are carried out via small groups or individually, supported by local volunteers. We have access to a range of local community facilities and nearby places of interest, prompting community engagement, and hold special events at the home, where we are entertained by guest vocalists and performers, with 'The Quiz Master' being a fan favourite.

Caroline Davis
Activities Coordinator
Hi, I'm Caroline and I joined Field House in 2021 from another Barchester home. I have worked in care for the last 30 years and a big part of that has been with Barchester.
Here at Field House, I organise a variety of activities and social events within the home and in the community, such as gardening club arts and crafts, weekly exercise sessions along with live singers and musicians every month. We are also keen on regular outings to local landmarks, museums, cafes and shopping centres.
In my job, I'm able to develop excellent relationships with residents and their families providing the support they need. I am very passionate about my job role as it is very important to us as a team that every individual is able to live the life they wish and feel fulfilled in their everyday activities maintaining past hobbies and finding new ones.
Celebrating life at Field House Care Home
Macmillan Coffee Morning
A fantastic MacMillan coffee morning at Field House, raising money for a charity that’s close to our hearts
The morning was filled with laughter, singing and dancing, not the usual coffee morning!
Lots of cakes, chat and dancing. We raised £76.00 for MacMillan cancer research.
Field House ladies asked to go for a drive
Margaret and Hillary enjoyed a lovely drive out to Charlie’s at Welshpool because they asked if they could go for a trip out. When asked where they would like to go, Hillary said, “I just want to go for a lovely drive, look around some shops and have lunch, then go home.”
The ladies loved looking around the tropical fish and looking around the gift shops before enjoying lunch in the restaurant.
Field House summer fair
Such a fantastic afternoon at Field House Summer fair, Residents have enjoyed getting ready for our event and also helping to set up and they all wanted to do something , Families and friends supported us to make another special day.
We also have local businesses donate prizes, Steele’s Family Bakery for their kind donation of donuts and Vine and co for a prize for our raffle.
Celebrating carer's week
Our care staff do such a fantastic job that our residents wanted to show them how much they appreciated all their hard work. Gillian and Ruth asked if they could show the staff by arranging an afternoon tea. They ordered and arranged this with the chef, then asked if they could arrange the table. The ladies served tea and handed out treats.
The residents were having their nails done and asked if they could do the staff's nails as another thank you, so care staff had a full week of being spoilt.
National Biscuit Day
Residents have been busy making custard creams, chocolate bourbons, and Jammie Dodgers while our Chef Paula made some delicious Viennese Whirls and Short Bread.
We all enjoyed these with a lovely cup of tea. What a treat.
Ruth's 90th Birthday
Joining Ruth at her Birthday Party was Howard, Janet and Gillian. Enjoying an afternoon at All Stretton Village Hall. A fantastic afternoon full of scrap book memories, a ‘This is your life’ down memory lane.
Ruth's family had done a super job of telling Ruth's life story and the residents loved it. It was the topic of conversation on the way home. Beautiful refreshments and fizz were enjoyed by everyone.
Pet photography competition
The residents enjoyed judging all the pictures in our photography competition! Janet thought the mischievous puppy with it head in a boot was fantastic and the romance between the sheep and black lab Ben was heart-melting, said Maisie.
So many to choose from, and all different everyone enjoyed putting their votes in and, at the end, we counted the votes and the winners were contacted and prizes handed out.
Annual dog show
Field house held our yearly Dog Show! With the help of Gillian Arnald of paws 4 Thoughts, dog training, who not just had the difficult decision of judging all the dog but also gave talks to everyone about training and things we can do to help us get the most from our pets.
And what a fantastic day we had, welcoming 24 dogs and owners all competing for show champion. We had the most beautiful rosettes and were so lucky with the weather. The residents all enjoyed talking to the visitors and seeing all the different dogs.
Peter, our resident ambassador, helped hand out the prizes and said “I’m so happy with how well we have been supported, and every year it just gets better.”
Royal Ascot
Celebrating Royal Ascot with a fun afternoon of seated racing, the residents all thought we had gone mad with the heat when we told them we were racing in the dining room, but they soon got the hang of it and had a fantastic time keeping fit and having fun. Alice couldn’t wait to be in charge of the starting flag.
‘Ready, steady, go!’ she shouted. We did have some giggles and faces when we brought out the chocolate fountain and strawberries.
Reminiscing
One of our residents had asked to visit Much Wenlock, a place she had spent many happy years with her family. So we enjoyed a beautiful drive out to Much Wenlock over the Wenlock edge, enjoying the beautiful views. We sat in the town square and enjoyed saying hello to people.
While enjoying an ice cream from the smoothie café, one of our residents popped into the Pennie Farthing's gift shop to buy some greeting cards.
British Iron Museum
One of our outings this week! The ladies asked if we could take a trip out to the British iron museum. Maisie had said how she had visited there years ago and would like to see how it had changed.
Maisie could not believe how many sculptures there were. She also said, “It’s been years since I have been around so many people, and I’m really enjoying just watching everyone enjoying themselves. We had lunch in the café, enjoyed the shop. The ladies talked about the trip for days after and said what a wonderful day they had.
Bank Holiday Fun
Making the most of the last few sunny days of the holidays. Residents invited some of your young visitors for a fun beach day afternoon, fun games, hot dogs and treats.
The residents enjoyed the afternoon as much as the children.
Vintage tea party
We were invited to attend Culmington village hall for their vintage afternoon tea and music from the Blue Birds!
It was such a perfect afternoon. We danced and enjoyed the most wonderful afternoon tea. Residents love visiting friends at Culmington and supporting our friends.
Happy and sad times
We invited our Little Acorns Nursery children for lunch and a sports day afternoon. It was a mixture of feelings: “happy” to have the children visit, but also “sad” as it would be the last time we would see some of the children as they would be starting school in September.
So we had a fun time, having lunch, then a sports day in the garden, which was fantastic! The residents were gifted some treat bags to take home and all received winning medals as they were all winners.
Mad Hatter's Afternoon Tea
Today at Field House we hosted our Alice in Wonderland-themed party. What fun we all had. The staff couldn’t wait to get dressed up, even the residents joined in, donning costumes to everyone’s delight.
We enjoyed a great lunch together followed by party games indoors and out, such fun.
