Activities at Fountains Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Mother's Day
On Mother’s Day, Fountains Care Home was filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments. The day brought together residents, families, and friends in a beautiful celebration of the incredible mothers in our community. Smiles lit up the rooms as visitors arrived, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere that made everyone feel truly special. In our cosy bistro, residents and their loved ones enjoyed a relaxing afternoon filled with sweet treats and comforting drinks.
Over cupcakes and cups of tea, stories were shared, laughter flowed, and precious memories were made—moments that will be treasured long after the day ended. Each dining area was thoughtfully decorated, adding an extra touch of care to ensure every mother felt appreciated and celebrated. It was a simple yet meaningful reminder of just how valued they are. More than anything, the day was about togetherness—bringing people closer, celebrating love, and creating lasting memories.

Supporting Age UK Solihull At Fountains Care Home
At Fountains Care Home, we are passionate about playing an active role in our local community. Supporting Age UK Solihull is an important part of our commitment to helping older people not only within our home, but across the wider Solihull area.
Age UK Solihull is an independent local charity dedicated to improving the lives of older people. Through advice services, community support, and initiatives that help reduce loneliness and isolation, they provide vital assistance to those who need it most.
As a care home that supports older people every day, we understand how essential these services are. That’s why we are proud to fundraise and raise awareness on their behalf.
Our Christmas Fundraising Efforts
During the festive season, our residents, relatives, and team members came together to raise funds in support of Age UK Solihull.
Activities included:
• Christmas raffles
• Festive cake sales
• Donation collections
• Themed fundraising days
These events brought our home together, creating a wonderful sense of community while supporting a meaningful cause.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, we were proud to present a donation of £100 to Age UK Solihull. We welcomed a representative from Age UK Solihull to the home to collect the funds. It was a special moment for residents and staff. It gave everyone the opportunity to see first-hand how their contributions help make a difference locally.
Supporting charities like Age UK Solihull reflects our wider values at Fountains Care Home — compassion, kindness, and community spirit. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Age UK Solihull and supporting their vital work throughout the year. By working together, we can help ensure older people in our community feel valued, supported, and connected.

Jan's virtual trip to Norway
Residents recently enjoyed a fascinating virtual trip to Norway, presented by our very own Jan. The lounge was transformed into a wintery, cosy setting that helped bring the experience to life, making everyone feel as though they were travelling together.
Jan’s engaging presentation took us through beautiful landscapes and cultural highlights, sparking curiosity and conversation among the group. Many residents were keen to share their own travel memories and ask questions throughout the journey, creating a lovely atmosphere of shared discovery.
It was a truly enjoyable session that blended comfort, learning, and community spirit. Thank you to Jan for taking us on this special virtual adventure — a delightful way to spend time together and make new memories at Fountains.
BUBBLES & BRUSHES EVENING
Residents at Fountains Care Home recently enjoyed a sparkling evening of creativity during a special Bubbles & Brushes Night. The event combined the joy of painting with a celebratory atmosphere, complete with glasses of sparkling Asti, refreshing sparkling waters, and bowls of fresh fruit.
We were delighted to welcome local artist Richard, who hosted the session and guided residents through a fun and relaxed evening of painting. With his encouragement, residents explored different techniques and materials, discovering new ways to express their creativity.
The night was filled with laughter, colour, and plenty of smiles as residents shared their artwork and enjoyed each other’s company. The activity not only offered a chance to try something new but also created a wonderful sense of togetherness and achievement.
Activities Coordinator Louise Crooks said: “It was wonderful to see our residents so engaged and enthusiastic. Richard created such a warm, supportive environment, and the atmosphere was filled with joy and creativity.”
The Bubbles & Brushes Night is just one of the many engaging activities at Fountains Care Home, designed to inspire, entertain, and bring residents closer together.
NATIONAL EXTRA DESSERT DAY!

The bistro was filled with laughter, chatter, and the delicious aroma of sweet and savoury treats. Residents were delighted by the variety on offer, from mini desserts and cookies to beautifully presented cheesecakes, including a favourite strawberry cheesecake.
Families and friends joined in, creating a lively, uplifting atmosphere where everyone felt welcome. Conversations flowed as people shared their favourite flavours, swapped baking memories from years gone by, and enjoyed sampling the array of treats together.
It was lovely to see so much interaction, with residents reminiscing, smiling, and engaging with one another. The event not only satisfied sweet cravings but also provided a wonderful opportunity for connection, laughter, and joy.
A truly heart-warming afternoon was had by all proof that sometimes, the sweetest moments are best enjoyed together.

Lions charity
At Fountains Care Home, being part of our local community is at the heart of everything we do. This morning was a particularly special one, as we had the honour of presenting a cheque for £1,600 to the Shirley Lions Charitable Club.
The Shirley Lions are a truly remarkable group, dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of local people—especially older residents—through their tireless fundraising and community initiatives. Their compassion, commitment, and impact continue to inspire us all.
We are incredibly proud, through the Barchester Foundation, to support organisations like the Shirley Lions that give so much back to the community. It’s partnerships like these that help strengthen the connections that matter most.
Residents Enjoy a Wonderful Trip to Mappleborough Green Garden Centre
Residents from Fountains Care Home recently enjoyed a lovely day out at Mappleborough Green Garden Centre.
The visit was filled with beautiful flowers, colourful displays, and charming seasonal decorations that truly brightened everyone’s day. Both ladies spent time browsing the garden centre, sharing happy memories about their own gardens and favourite plants.
After exploring, they relaxed with hot drinks and refreshments in the café, enjoying meaningful conversation and plenty of smiles.

New Year's Party at Fountains
Our residents and their families enjoyed a wonderful New Year’s Eve celebration filled with music, laughter, and togetherness.
The home was beautifully decorated, creating a festive atmosphere for the afternoon. Everyone enjoyed lovely food and a celebratory glass of Prosecco while spending quality time with loved ones.
We were delighted to welcome live entertainer Ian, whose performance made the afternoon truly special. His singing encouraged residents and families to dance, sing along, and share happy memories together.
It was a joyful and memorable way to welcome the New Year, and a celebration that brought smiles to everyone involved.
A TASTE OF MEXICO
Our residents recently enjoyed a colourful celebration of Mexican Independence Day all from the comfort of their armchairs!
With the help of a special guest speaker Carl and Volunteer Sally, residents took a virtual tour of Mexico, learning about its history, culture, and traditions. Alongside fascinating stories and stunning views of the country. The residents engaged very positively with the session and expressed great enjoyment throughout. They sampled alcohol-free margaritas and tortilla chips with a variety of sauces, giving them a flavour of Mexican culture. They also listened with interest to the history and traditions being shared, while being able to view images and places from Mexico as part of the virtual tour.
Following the activity, residents continued their conversations with the Carl, asking further questions about Mexico, its culture, and ways of life. This level of curiosity and interaction showed that the activity had stimulated their interest and opened up new avenues of discussion. Importantly, several residents asked if the speaker could return to deliver sessions on different countries in the future, highlighting the value and success of the experience.
It was a wonderful afternoon full of laughter, learning, and discovery proof that you don’t need to travel far to experience the world!

Red Nose Day
On Red Nose Day, the halls of Fountains Care Home were filled with laughter, warmth, and a splash of bright red. Staff and residents alike came together in support of Comic Relief, proudly wearing red tops and playful noses. What began as a simple gesture quickly turned into a joyful celebration—one where smiles were shared, stories were told, and laughter echoed through every room.
Residents, some reminiscing and others simply enjoying the moment, joined in the fun with enthusiasm. Familiar faces returned too, as former residents stopped by, bringing with them a sense of connection and community that made the day even more special. Amid the laughter, there was purpose. Small contributions were made, each one a reminder that even the smallest act of kindness can make a meaningful difference. By the end of the day, it wasn’t just about the red noses or the donations—it was about togetherness, compassion, and the simple joy of making others smile.

Christmas Day at Fountains
Christmas Day arrived wrapped in warmth and gentle excitement at our care home. From the early morning, the building was filled with the comforting aromas of freshly baked treats and a traditional festive lunch being lovingly prepared. Tinsel sparkled, the Christmas tree twinkled, and familiar carols drifted through the halls, bringing smiles and a few happy sing-alongs along the way.
Residents gathered to enjoy a delicious Christmas meal, complete with all the seasonal favourites, shared laughter, and plenty of cheerful conversation. Thoughtfully chosen gifts were exchanged, each one opening the door to surprise, gratitude, and heartfelt joy. VISITS OF JOY TO OUR HOME
We were delighted to welcome back Lorenzo, our much-loved pet therapy dog, and it’s safe to say our residents absolutely adore him. His visits are always met with smiles, excitement, and plenty of cuddles.
Lorenzo has a special way of uplifting the atmosphere throughout the home. Residents enjoy taking him for gentle walks around the gardens, giving them a sense of purpose and empowerment. For many, the chance to care for and interact with him brings back happy memories of pets they have loved in the past.
Pet therapy offers so many wonderful benefits. Stroking and spending time with Lorenzo helps reduce feelings of isolation and distress, while also promoting calmness and relaxation often leading to a better quality of rest. His presence encourages conversation, sparks emotions, and provides a comforting companionship that words alone cannot offer.
The joy and comfort that Lorenzo brings are truly priceless, and it is heart-warming to see the positive impact he has on residents’ wellbeing every time he visits.
