Activities at Fountains Care Home

There's nothing quite like a visit to a traditional pub, and residents from Fountains Care Home recently enjoyed an afternoons at the Blue Bell Cider House.

With drinks in hand and everyone settled in, the conversation soon turned to memories of years gone by.  For some residents, the pub was a familiar place, bringing back fond memories of visits in their younger days. 

There was plenty to talk about as residents swapped stories, shared a few laughs and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the local pub. 

At Fountains, we know how important it is for residents to continue enjoying the places and experiences that have always been part of their lives.  Sometimes, something as simple as heading out for a drink with friends makes for the perfect afternoon.  

Judging by the smiles around the table, this was certainly a trip worth repeating!

There was a delicious smell coming from Fountains Care Home this week as residents rolled up their sleeves to make a traditional Devonshire Cider Cake. 

Our keen bakers got straight to work cracking eggs, stirring the mixture and carefully adding the cider and mixed fruit before pouring everything into the baking tin, 

Baking Club is always a popular activity at Fountains, giving residents the chance to share their favorite recipes, put their kitchen skills to good use and enjoy a little friendly chatter while they work. 

Of course, the real test came at teatime when everyone had the opportunity to sample their creation!

With another successful bake under their belts, we're looking forward to seeing what's on the menu next week! 

There were wagging tails and some very excited residents at Fountains Care Home as we welcomed our local community and their four-legged friends for the launch of our brand-new Community Dog Cafe! 

Our first gathering brought together residents, visitors and their canine companions, conversation and plenty of fuss for our furry guests.

The cafe is a lovely way to bring our residents and local community together, particularly those who have owned dogs themselves and enjoy spending time around animals.

Our team are looking forward to welcoming more familiar faces, both human and canine, as our Dog Cafe becomes a regular fixture in the Fountains calendar. 

With our first cafe off to a lovely start, we can't wait to see who comes through the doors next time - especially those arriving on four paws! 

Getting Creative with Wreath Making

Our residents enjoyed a wonderfully creative afternoon at Fountains making their very own decorative wreaths.

With plenty of materials to choose from, everyone was able to create something personal, with each finished wreath looking completely different from the next.

The session was a lovely opportunity to get creative, spend time together and enjoy seeing everyone's individual ideas come to life. We think the finished wreaths look fantastic – our residents certainly have an eye for design!

An Afternoon with Marilyn Monroe

Residents at Fountains enjoyed taking a step back into the golden age of Hollywood with a fascinating talk all about the life and career of Marilyn Monroe.

From her rise to fame and iconic films to the woman behind one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces, residents enjoyed discovering more about her remarkable life.

The afternoon prompted lots of conversation and memories, with residents sharing their recollections of Marilyn, her films and the Hollywood stars of the era. It was a fascinating afternoon and a wonderful opportunity to reminisce together.

There was some friendly competition at Fountains Care Home as residents gathered in the lounge for an afternoon of carpet bowls!

With the bowls laid out and everyone ready to take their turn, residents put their aim and accuracy to the test, trying to get their bowls as close to the jack as possible. 

Carpet bowls is always a welcome addition to our activities calendar, offering residents the chance to enjoy a little healthy competition without having to venture outdoors.  There was plenty of encouragement from the sidelines as everyone took turns, with some impressive shots along the way!

A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, although we suspect a few residents might be practicing their technique before the next game!

It was back to the classroom for members of the team at Fountains Care Home as they took part in a practical first aid training session.  

Staff spent time refreshing their knowledge, practicing essential techniques and learning how to respond confidently in emergency situations.  

The session provided a great opportunity for colleagues to work together, ask questions and put their life skills into practice. 

At Fountains, ongoing training is an important part of ensuring our team feels confident and well-equipped to support residents.  It's not just about learning new skills, but keeping existing ones fresh and being prepared when it matters most

Our residents have been busy making dog treats for our first Community Dog Cafe at Fountains!

There's been plenty of excitement as we prepare to welcome local dog owners and their four-legged friends into our home!  Making treats has been a lovely way for residents to get involved and help give our furry visitors a warm welcome. 

We're looking forward to bringing residents, neighbors and dogs together for a friendly afternoon - with some homemade treats for the dogs to enjoy!

There’s nothing quite like the smell of home baking on a Sunday!

Our residents rolled up their sleeves for another Sunday Baking Club, spending time together mixing, decorating and, of course, sampling their creations.

Baking is a lovely way for residents to continue enjoying familiar skills and traditions while sharing memories and favourite recipes along the way.

The best part came at the end when everyone could sit back with a well-earned cup of tea and enjoy the results!

Word Play at Fountains

Our residents put their vocabulary to the test at our latest Scrabble Club!

There was plenty of friendly competition as everyone got their thinking caps on and searched for those all-important high-scoring words. Scrabble is always a favourite at Fountains and is a great opportunity for residents to spend time together, have a chat and enjoy a little healthy competition.

There were some impressive words on the board – and, as always, plenty of debate over whether a few of them should really count!

It was time to put those thinking caps on at Fountains Care Home as residents gathered for another round of Carl's quiz!

With questions to test everyone's general knowledge, residents enjoyed a little friendly competition as they worked their way through the rounds, sharing answers and putting their memories to the test! 

This week's quiz champion Melvyn, who impressed everyone with his knowledge and took home the winning title! 

Our regular quizzes are always a popular part of the activities calendar, bringing residents together for an afternoon of conversation, fun and a little healthy rivalry. 

A big congratulations to Melvyn on his win!  The question now is whether he can hold on to his title next time!

Our residents enjoyed a rather special trip to the Midlands Art Centre (MAC) in Birmingham to explore the Solihull Exhibition, where they had the added excitement of seeing a piece of artwork created by our very own Activities Coordinator, Richard, on display!

The visit gave the residents the opportunity to admire a wonderful collection of artwork, discover local creativity and, of course, seek out Richard's contribution to the exhibition.

At Fountains we love finding new experiences for our residents, and this outing was made all the more meaningful by having such a personal connection to the exhibition. 

A huge congratulations to Richard from everyone at Fountains.  We're incredibly proud of his achievement, and it was lovely for our residents to share in this special moment!   

We were delighted to celebrate a very special milestone at Fountains as Doreen turned 100!

It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Doreen and mark this remarkable birthday.  Reaching a century is something truly special, and we are so pleased to share this moment with her.

Music & Memories at Fountains

There was music, singing and plenty of smiles at Fountains when our residents enjoyed another fantastic Music & Memories performance.

Residents were treated to a wonderful selection of familiar songs, with plenty joining in, singing along and even having a little dance.

Music has an amazing ability to bring people together and spark special memories, and it was lovely to see residents enjoying songs they know and love. The room was filled with laughter, conversation and some brilliant voices – a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for everyone!

We were delighted to welcome residents, relatives and guests to our Meet the Manager Cheese & Wine Evening at Fountains.

The evening was a wonderful opportunity to meet Sara, our General Manager, and learn a little more about the person leading our home.  With her warm, approachable and friendly personality, Sara is passionate about creating a welcoming environment where residents feel at home, families feel involved and everyone's voice is valued. 

Over a delicious selection of cheese and wine, guests had the chance to chat with Sara in a relaxed and informal setting. 

It was a lovely evening filled with conversation, laughter and new connections.  A big thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such an enjoyable occasion!
