Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lap blankets hand sewn and donated

Fountains residents have been delighted to receive home stitched lap blankets from a kind volunteer in the community.

The crochet squares were sewn together by Liz Norman and donated to Fountains residents.

We have been given enough blankets to be able to give a welcome blanket to all new residents and many more for future residents.

They have been extremely well received so a massive thank you to Liz.

Tales of the RAF by Colin Mayes

Residents and staff at Fountains enjoyed a Book Club afternoon yesterday, thanks to one of our very own residents, Colin.

Colin has written his own book, ‘THOSE SHAIBAH BLUES’ which recounts the stories of him as a young man, arriving at RAF Camp Shaibah for his (extended) two-year National Service.

Whilst this book was written 20 years ago, the tales gave our residents the opportunity to recall and reminisce, as well as simply sit back and enjoy Colin’s rollercoaster journey.

It was a wonderful afternoon and all of our residents were engaged and amazed at the tales and the photos Colin had to share with us.

We’re very much looking forward to our next Book Club and hearing more of his adventures.

Beethoven's Anniversary

Fountains residents and staff celebrated Beethoven’s anniversary with a classical music afternoon.

We relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful sounds of Beethoven’s symphony accompanied by a delicious cheese  and wine  selection courtesy of our wonderful hospitality team.

It was a very relaxing afternoon which lifted everyone’s spirits.

Easter donations

Fountains care home are very lucky to have such great community friends who always think of our residents and staff. Over Easter we were overwhelmed by the generosity of Sewa Day and Tesco Gillian Smith who delivered enough chocolate eggs and boxes of chocolate to keep us going until next year!

Thank you for your kindness. Our residents and staff are extremely grateful.

Greek Independence Day celebrated

Residents and staff at Fountains enjoyed a Greek inspired day as they celebrated Greek Independence Day ??

The day kicked off with a tour of the beautiful Greek island of Santorini. Residents were wowed by the beautiful buildings and the glorious sunsets making everyone dream about holidays past and future.

We then made our own Gold leaf Greek crowns - traditionally worn to Toga parties. We had great fun putting the leaves on to our headbands and adding all the finer details too. It certainly took a steady hand!

For lunch our dining area was transformed into a Greek Taverna.

with classic Greek music, wine and a themed menu created by our talented kitchen team: Zucchini and feta fritters to start, followed by a Greek salad with Tzatziki and roasted vegetables.

Dessert was Revani which is a Greek semolina cake.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the different tastes of traditional Greek food and there were many compliments to the chef.

After lunch, some traditional Greek dancing was enjoyed in the cinema room Residents were amazed by the talented dancing and there was a lot of clapping and dancing along to the music.

Of course no Greek day would be truly complete without a movie evening of Mamma Mia and lots of ABBA.
