Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

World Hospice and Palliative Care Day

The theme for this important day in 2020 was “Because I matter” and was originally created in 1989 in order to raise public awareness and much needed funds.

I’m sure we all know someone who is or has suffered from a life-limiting illness and the work of the hospices and palliative care teams is invaluable in supporting those that are suffering and their networks.

Fountains Care Home wanted to mark the occasion by celebrating the amazing work the nursing team do, so we took homemade cupcakes for them all to enjoy.

Halloween Fun

Fountains residents & staff came together to celebrate Halloween with a variety of fun activities.

There was pumpkin painting, “poke the pumpkin” games, biscuit decorating and witches fingers made with shortbread biscuit, almonds and jam.

Everyone had a lot of spooky fun.

Staying connected with technology

Our residents staying connected to their family and friends remains a high priority for Fountains Care Home.

The impact for both parties being able to communicate and see one another, in these difficult times with restrictions imposed, is priceless.

We love to see the joy it brings and see the difference in our residents for the rest of the day and beyond.

Thank goodness for technology and being able to facilitate these precious moments.

Harvest Festival

Fountains adopted a whole home approach to produce a lovely Harvest Festival Display.

With the support of our activity co-ordinator and staff, our residents made salt dough which they painted as well as fruit clay.

Corn on the cob was made out of bubble wrap as well as leaf lanterns and leaf catchers.

The display came together with all departments donating something for the table, from fruit and vegetables to creative offerings that represented their departments.

Our residents loved seeing the finished result which turned into a sensory journey. With touch and smell, memories were sparked and shared as well as enjoying games together.

It was fun naming all the different fruits on display as well as spotting the smallest and largest item and sharing funny memories that items brought to mind.

It was a unique version of Harvest Festival which was Fountains very own.

Eco Virtual Balloon Race

Fountains have joined the 7 day Christmas race that launches from Harrods in 33 days time.

This EcoRace is a virtual balloon race and is a fun and unique way to raise money for your chosen cause.

Fountains have brought a balloon for Age UK Solihull as older people need our help more than ever. With reduced fundraising income and charity shops only open on a limited basis, Age UK Solihull needs the support of our local community.

With some great prizes to be won, why not get involved and give Fountains Care Home a race whilst helping to raise money for a great cause.

World Mental Health Day

Mental Health problems can affect anyone, any day of the year and has never been more poignant with the impact that COVID-19 has had on us all with months of restrictions and uncertainty.

With this in mind, Fountains hosted a wellbeing lunch for its staff and residents to show our support to one another for better mental health and to take responsibility for looking after our own and each other’s wellbeing.

It was a lovely opportunity to enjoy one another, listen and support each other and further bond our Fountains Family whilst enjoying a delicious homemade Fish & Chip lunch, prepared by our talented kitchen team.
