Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Mini bus preparations

Fountains are very proud to have their own mini bus, exclusively for the benefit of Fountains residents.

With seaside visits in our mind, when lockdown restrictions allow, Harvir, our maintenance man, wanted to get the mini bus out and about..

He hit the road for a run out and filled her up, before carrying out some maintenance checks.

Our mini bus can transport up to 8 residents and we are so looking forward to putting it to good use with trips out in the community. Equally we are looking forward to being able to pick up those members of the community who would benefit from an afternoon spent at Fountains, making new friends and enjoying a fun event.

Hopefully we won't have too long to wait.

Seaside meets Fountains

Fountains hosted a beach day in the gardens.

Our residents have been talking about how much they are looking forward to a trip to the seaside, once we can start organising trips following lockdown, so we decided to bring the seaside to them.

It was a scorcher of a day and everyone enjoyed dipping their toes in the pool to cool down, as well as enjoying the sensory experience of the beach sand.

A delicious buffet was served with jugs of  refreshing Pimms and Lemonade, whilst listening to summer classics.

A lovely day was had by all.

A cake to celebrate

Fountains have teamed up with Age UK Solihull to help spread some birthday cheer.

Age UK Solihull identified some big birthdays being celebrated by their clients in the coming months and wanted to make sure they were special.

Fountains offered to provide a home baked personalised birthday cake, to be delivered alongside cards and a special birthday song recording by SING! Choir.

Head chef Daryl Frost did not disappoint and our first recipient described the cake as "delicious".

We are so pleased to be involved and being able to support our local community, particularly during these difficult times.

Broadway visits

Broadway visited Fountains for an afternoon matinee of musical theatre.

Our residents enjoyed the Hairspray production in our lovely cinema room.

They each had a ticket for admission and it wasn't long before they were singing and dancing along.

Tea and cake was served which rounded off a lovely afternoon.

Face coverings

Wearing a face covering in shops and supermarkets in England is to become mandatory from 24th July, with a fine for those failing to comply of up to £100. Children under 11 and people with certain disabilities and medical conditions will be exempt.

Shirley Lions have been busy making face coverings throughout the panademic, as per our earlier story. With possible demand now being even higher Fountains have a supply of face coverings for purchase on behalf of Shirley Lions.

There are a variety of designs, colours and styles to choose from. They are all very comfortable and washable.

Please contact Fountains on 0121 733 8602 to purchase or alternatively contact Lion Jean Wright directly on 0121 745 599 or 07800 594 412.

There is a small charge which will go some way to supporting the Lions and all the great work they do for our communities.

Lorraine Shannon -Home Services Advisor - shows some of the different designs and colours.

Please support locally.

Double Birthday Celebrations

Florence celebrated her 99th birthday at Fountains.

As our first resident to move in and our first resident to celebrate her birthday, it was a special occasion and worthy of a double celebration!

Florence enjoyed a party alongside fellow residents and staff with a buffet and home baked birthday cake by home chef Daryl Frost.

The following day, Florence enjoyed 4 separate visits from family which included lots of presents to open. as well as another birthday cake baked by her daughter!

Florence was well and truly spoilt.

Happy Birthday Florence.
