Activities at Hempton Field Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Nina Mullerworth

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Nina and I have had the privilege of working at Hempton Field in my role as Activities Coordinator for over 15 years and I am looking forward to many more! I have enjoyed continually developing in the role with a variety of training courses, including a Level 2 NAPA and Aromatherapy Massage.

I love interacting with the residents and organising a varied programme of activities with a person-centred approach based on Barchester's Life Enrichment Programme of enhancing the wellbeing of mind, body and soul.  This includes ensuring residents can continue to enjoy hobbies, life experiences and keep active through exercise and music.  We are involved with local clubs and welcome in members of the community as well as a variety of outings in the minibus - these are always very popular!

Wine Not? Yes please we say!

Our residents were treated to a wine tasting masterclass hosted by Nick Parker and Lee Isaacs from Unity Wines. Wine can be a complicated subject and Unity Wines aims to help people navigate the different styles on offer in order to find the perfect wines for all of its customers.

Nick and Lee took Barchester residents on a tour of the world of wine starting with a light, fresh Italian sparking dry white wine, Tosti Asti Secco. With lemon, pear, apple and white peach, this is a great alternative to Prosecco. Next was a South African white, Bird Island Chenin Blanc – such a versatile wine, this example had green and red apples, peachy fruit, and a hint of something slightly tropical with a wonderful hit of apricots, nuts and melon. Our residents finished the afternoon by being transported to Europe, with wines originating from France and Spain. #unitywines

General Manager, Sharon Thursby, said: “Our residents love a glass of wine with their lunch or dinner and they love to try new styles so the tasting went down an absolute treat. It was very interesting to learn which wines pair well with different foods, our residents are looking forward to trying out Nick and Lee’s recommendations.”

Our life enrichment program is fully of new and exciting activities, if you are considering later life care please do give us a call on 01844 808265 to book a show round and meet our residents and the team.

Scrabble Championships

Did you know that playing Scrabble boosts the immune system and makes you happy?

Our residents certainly believe this to be true. Not only do our teams enjoy the social element, they end up learning more, and the greatest benefit of all is that ‘playing Scrabble with friends is fun’!

Flower Arranging for all the Senses

Our wonderful ladies had a fabulous time flower arranging together yesterday. Handling the various florals is a full sensory experience that fills your mind with fragrance and happy memories, all of which help relieve anxiety.

The group really immersed themselves in the process; selecting by colour, shape and texture to create truly beautiful displays. Thank you ladies, our communal areas look and smell amazing!

Eyes down for Bingo!

Eyes down ladies and gentlemen for an afternoon of musical bingo! It's always a pleasure to see our residents having such a giggle and sing-along playing this group game.

Tai Chi by AGE UK

Our residents love to try something new, yesterday they enjoyed Tai Chi by Generation Games c/o a DVD supplied by our friends at Age UK Oxfordshire. We all found the short 15 minute easy to follow routine really enjoyable, with its soft flow movements to exercise the whole body and improve balance.

Yummy Candy Floss

Candy Floss - Tastes like 'all the fun of the fair' with every bite. Our ladies loved the homemade treats and the smell throughout the home was simply scrummy, it took everyone back to their childhoods, we had a lovely time reminiscing.
