Activities at Hempton Field Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Nina Mullerworth

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Nina and I have had the privilege of working at Hempton Field in my role as Activities Coordinator for over 15 years and I am looking forward to many more! I have enjoyed continually developing in the role with a variety of training courses, including a Level 2 NAPA and Aromatherapy Massage.

I love interacting with the residents and organising a varied programme of activities with a person-centred approach based on Barchester's Life Enrichment Programme of enhancing the wellbeing of mind, body and soul.  This includes ensuring residents can continue to enjoy hobbies, life experiences and keep active through exercise and music.  We are involved with local clubs and welcome in members of the community as well as a variety of outings in the minibus - these are always very popular!

Fundraising for Local Charitles

We had a wonderful time on Tuesday hosting a stall at Thame Market. What a fabulous place to meet people so many lovely people, and have the opportunity to chat through their care needs. Our home manager; Sharon Thursby was on hand to offer advice and invite people to visit the home, meet the staff and residents at Hempton Field care home, in Chinnor.

During the day we ran a tombola, in aid of two local charities close to our residents hearts; Be Free Young Carers in Oxfordshire and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People in Princes Risborough.

Our tombola saw many winners, with prizes from Whiskey to hand-crafted cuddly toys and a large selection of grocery products graciously donated by Waitrose Thame and several amazing friends of the home from within the local community of Chinnor. #chinnorcommunity

We wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone for their donations, and to all that visited our stall. We raised a total £113.00 which will be split between both charities in support the great work they do.

We cannot thank the market traders enough for being so welcoming, and for all those who stopped by to buy a ticket! #thamecommunity We'll definitely be hosting more stalls in the future.

National Fish & Chips Day

Staff and residents at Hempton Field care home had a fantastic time celebrating National Fish & Chip Day on Fryday 4th June, surely one of the best days of the year!

Head chef, Heather whipped up a selection of different flavoured batters for residents to try along with some home-made tartare sauce and mushy peas, everyone had a great time guessing the different batter ingredients. The sun was shining so several residents took to the garden to eat their fish and chips.

Our General Manager, Sharon, said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was a National Fish & Chip Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – fish & chips are such an iconic dish, everyone loves them and it’s even better when there is a good excuse to eat them!”

Mabel, one of our lovely residents commented: “We’ve all had such a lovely day. It just doesn’t get any better than fish and chips served on newspaper, it took me right back – you can’t beat fish & chips as far as I’m concerned!”

Planting Sunflower Seeds

After visiting the hairdresser, our ladies got busy planting sunflower seeds! They just won’t stop until their sensory garden is full of colour and excitement, we’re looking forward to seeing how tall they’ll grow. We’d love to hear from any schools or groups in the area that have been planning sunflowers, our residents would to see how well yours are doing in the coming months.

Welcome Back Hairdresser; Helen!

Our residents want to say a big 'thank you' to the carers at Hempton Field for looking after their hair during the lockdown.  It's been almost 15 months of waiting for Helen the Hempton hairdresser to return and today was the day!

Gwen couldn't stop smiling being one of the first ladies to attend her appointment with Helen for a professional cut, curl and set. They were lining up to be treated to all the pampering of being at the hairdressers, our ladies looked simply beautiful with their new bouffant barnets, taking time to chat and catch some rays this afternoon in the sensory garden.

Life 'is' good at Hempton Field.

Celebrating Italian Day

‘Festa della Repubblica’ or Italian Republic Day is celebrated in Italy on June 2, every year. Yesterday our residents welcomed the opportunity to get involved with an Italian themed day.

Our morning exercises were to Italian music, and lunch consisted of a range of Italian breads with pesto and sundried tomato to try with an olive oil and balsamic dip to start. Chef served his especially prepared lasagne and mushroom risotto with fresh vegetables for main, and our residents had their choice of a plummy red Merlot, or crisp white Pinot Grigio with their meal.

There was much debate on deciding which dessert to choose; tiramisu or lemon sorbet? (Several had a little of both… when in Rome!).

We had such a fantastic day, learning all about Italy; from the waterways of Venice to the vineyards of Sicily, before finishing the day with pizza making! Chef was very impressed with their topping skills and served the individual creations for supper.

Hempton Field Increases Lifesaving Defibrillator Count

Thanks to the collaboration of Chinnor Parish Council, South Central Ambulance Service and Barchester’s Hempton Field care home in Chinnor. The SEVENTH public access defibrillator has just been installed and ready for use.

The lifesaving equipment unit is located to the front of Hempton Field care home on Lower Icknield Way in Chinnor. The equipment has been kindly funded by Chinnor Parish Council. Spokesperson Susan Ashdown, advised this latest installation supports the target to provide Chinnor with a public access defibrillator within every 400 metres, strengthening Chinnor in becoming a ‘safe community’.

Hempton Field, a former doctor's house, situated a short distance from the centre of Chinnor felt an ideal location for this invaluable community resource. Care Home General Manager, Sharon Thursby said: “Our residents and staff were delighted, and extremely proud when they heard this potentially life-saving defibrillator would be installed to the front of their beautiful home.”

On installation, Elizabeth Schwarz, and Fiona Mantle from the Chinnor Community First Responder team, part of South Central Ambulance Service explained that each defibrillator can be accessed by dialling 999 for a key code. “Should you suspect a cardiac arrest, the emergency services will pin-point your location and, if appropriate, direct you to the nearest public access defibrillator. It's really easy and safe to use, you don't need any medical expertise”.

Chinnor Community First Responders run regular training sessions as required, Contact the Chinnor First Responders through the Parish Council office on 01844 353267. For more information please call our home manager on 01844 351766
