Activities at Hilderstone Hall Care Home

Our activities team are, first and foremost, devoted to each and every resident in the home, and strive to ensure that their interests, hobbies, capabilities and individual requests are met to the highest standard. This could include one-to-one chats, hand massages, reading, music therapy, flower arranging, movement to music, arts & crafts, gardening and baking. We also have regular fun, adventurous and stimulating trips, where we encourage families and loved ones to join us. We have close links with the Alzheimer's Society, the local primary school, and Trinity Skills who come to sing with residents. All the staff at Hilderstone Hall participate in activities with residents, offering encouragement, stimulation and interaction for everyone involved, providing the most fulfilling experience possible.

Hannah Perry

Activities Lead

Hi I’m Hannah and I am the Activities Lead. I have two children and love spending time on my allotment growing fruit and veg. I joined the team at Hilderstone Hall in October 2023 and have become a valued member of the team. I enjoy working with the residents and getting to know them, as well as making sure they take part in various activities such as singing, crafts, baking and much more! I have over 9 years experience within the care industry and worked previously as an Activities Co-Ordinator before coming to Hilderstone.

Wreath making

Wreath making has kept us active and thoroughly engaged this week as we decorated all corners of the home for Christmas.

We chatted about the meaning and symbolism of displaying a Christmas Wreath which includes courage, strength and eternal life.

Children in Need Fund Raiser

Staff raised funds of £47.75 today for Children in Need.  Everyone wore yellow and red outfits for the Pudsey picnic which residents thoroughly enjoyed.   Duck race game winner was Olive with a Quackman & Bobbin duck team! She won a lovely scarf, Norman Perry won a teddy bear for coming 2nd in the race with Quack & Cheese! We played hook a duck after and had lots of cake and nibbles!

Remembrance Sunday

Residents have contributed in a number of ways to commemorate Remembrance Sunday and Remembrance Day.

Residents in Memory Lane crafted 3D Poppies to tastefully decorate a display of First World War poetry.  Other residents made their own painted poppies and wrote poppy cards in memory of family members and others who served in the armed forces.  A further display was created, to spell out the message – “Lest We Forget” along with a poppy clock set to 11:00am

On the 11th itself, residents will come together to mark a two minute silence and to listen to readings of War poetry.

Virtual Fireworks

In the “new normal” residents had a fun and enjoyable evening celebrating Bonfire Night.  The kitchen served traditional fare of Hot Dogs and Wedges served while we took in the spectacle of a “virtual” firework display watching some of the best firework displays held previously in London.  The evening was complete with delicious mugs of Hot Chocolate and Chocolate Krispy cakes.

Halloween at The Hall

This year residents made amazing pumpkin carving flower arrangements which looked spectacular on the fireplace, along with a craft display featuring spooky silhouettes and acrostic poetry.   Residents then enjoyed an eerie Victorian ghost story that we read together along with afternoon tea

Daily exercises for all

The daily exercise session continues to be a firm favourite with residents.

All of the chair exercises are followed whilst sitting down and are designed so that everyone can take part.  There are exercises both for stretching muscles and for gentle aerobic activity to promote fitness and general wellbeing.  A number of “routines” have been devised to favourite songs and a particular favourite is “Zorba the Greek” where residents try to pick up the pace to match the tempo of the music!
