"I am so impressed by the high quality of care provided by all the staff at Barchester Hilderstone Hall Care Home. Everyone who we met showed so much love, care and concern for residents and visitors alike. The engagement with all the residents is top-notch. You can see on the faces of the residents how comfortable and relaxed they are whenever the staff speak or deal with them. I can see why they enjoy their lives here. Well done, everyone. My father-in-law only stayed a short time but I was thrilled with the care he received."

"My Gorgeous Grandma has been living at Hilderstone Hall for the past 5 years. She is 103 years old and loves to sing. Grandma came into the home very poorly and through the dedication, love, care and attention of all the staff, she has thrived, enjoyed her time and feels very cared for. This has been even more apparent during Covid-19. Living 200 miles away and not being able to visit has been very hard for me but I have had regular FaceTime ‘Visits’. She is bed-bound and unable to have window/garden visits so I have a huge Thank you to the staff for sorting out special permission for me to visit grandma while I was up in the area. I had not seen grandma since February and being able to see her face to face meant the world to both of us. She is still my gorgeous Grandma and it was clearly evident that the staff have really looked after her, kept her well, happy and still singing. Thank you, it has been a weight off my shoulders knowing she is so well cared for and very much loved by you all."

"In 2019 my daughter and I visited Hilderstone Hall, we were shown around the hall and were very impressed. My husband came to stay in the Hall for 2 weeks respite. From the telephone calls I made to them they said he was doing very well and joining in the activities which I believe he enjoyed. As he was in memory lane I think he was comfortable. So I can only say his respite was satisfactory. I can only go on what the staff have told me."

"Staff are always on hand and willing to help. There is a great atmosphere of happy enthusiasm. Concerns and suggestions are taken seriously and where necessary action is taken. Overall, I am very happy with the standard of care that my beloved and quite particular grandma receives."

"Some staff are excellent. Minimizing use of agency staff would improve this. The home gardens are unkept and neglected. Covid protocols are good - most staff appear to understand them. Telephone answering is always slow. All the above should be addressed. Overall there is a sense of a warm/caring environment."

"I have visited 3 times to see my brother-in-law who is being well looked after. The hall is clean and fresh if a little too warm. The welcome is excellent from the lady who has to carry out Covid tests each time because of our poor IT skills."

"Difficult to tick 1 box with confidence owing to inconsistency. I am happy overall with the food and welcome alternatives if necessary but rather disappointing when other staff have to step in. Need additional activities coordinator to ensure 7 days per week are covered. Still lacking sufficient exercises for all residents and mine on a 1 to 1 daily basis. Frequently not ready early enough on a daily basis as stipulated in my care plan. Staff need to be supplemented by agency staff, some of whom lack training and manhandling. use appropriate behaviour, communication or what their remit entails. More established staff are hard-working, polite, willing, helpful and pleasant including household and hospitality teams. Staff morale generally has improved since the appointment of the current manager the deputy manager have been welcomed by both staff and residents. I have no intention whatsoever of leaving here, for positive reasons given [particularly the safety and security in the current climate. However, would welcome more consistency and communication overall with staff at all levels."

"I had a wonderful welcome to this beautiful home. Clean and with wonderful staff. Good food was out of this world. I thought I was at The Ritz in London. I was a resident for 2 weeks rest, I was very happy and well-rested. Thank you, Hilderstone Hall"

"My mum has been at Hilderstone for 21-months. Staff are amazing, kind, caring, respectful and always treat Mum with dignity. I feel that the staff genuinely love my mum, and I’m so very grateful for their care. The food is fantastic, and Mum enjoys a glass of wine with lunch. Activities such as singers, bingo and quizzes are regular, but it will be nice to see day trips out start up again. Over the last 21-months throughout Covid, Hilderstone staff have managed well, keeping residents safe following all protocols and keeping infections here to a minimum, but supporting relatives to keep in touch via window visits, pod visits, Skype and telephone calls - a little better communication regards the protocol changes throughout the time would, however, have been useful. A huge thanks to all the staff from me and my mum."

"Whilst it is sad to think my parents have had to move to a care home, it is comforting to know they are happy and well looked after. The regular activities keep them active and engaged. My dad especially enjoys the meals! The regular nursing review/input gives me peace of mind."

"The team at Hilderstone Hall care home are simply outstanding! They go above and beyond to care for our mum who has dementia but has always been fiercely independent and has a lovely sense of humour and loved the outdoors, particularly running. She ran the Great North run when she was 70! They encourage her to remain as independent as possible, there is always a laugh and a cheeky giggle which mum loves. The team take the time to take her out walking/running in the beautiful gardens. She likes her own space but is always gently encouraged to engage in the multiple activities they offer. The whole team genuinely seem to understand her individual unique needs and does their utmost to see that these are fulfilled. Our particular thanks go to the Hostess and the Senior Carer. The hostess has been our rock with her care, compassion and sense of humour with mum. She genuinely gives 110%. The senior Carer keeps us updated on a regular basis regarding all of Mum's care needs. This is so appreciated. They are both absolute gems!"

"I visited Barchester Hilderstone Hall Care Home for three consecutive days and experienced friendliness to all visitors and residents. Whatever the request, pets welcomed, self-help and refreshments are offered to visitors. I was particularly impressed with the alarm mats by the bed. The grounds and home are lovely, well kept and maintained. Inside reception has several alone lounges where visitors can relax. There were always staff in sight to ensure all were comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble. My sister's room was large with an ensuite and plenty of room for clothes. Lots of artwork and sculptures were displayed, giving the feeling of a gracious home. Overall, a pleasant experience and I am happy my sister is in such a welcoming and professional home."

"I feel like since my gran was moved upstairs that the care had gone downhill a bit. But on my last visit, she was doing really well again which I believe is mostly thanks to the new entertainment staff (especially the one-to-one entertainment being done in the residents' rooms if they are unable to get them to leave their room that day)."

"It's been 3 years since my wife came to Hilderstone Hall. She was immediately shown love and support- the care given was safe and secure with the result that she could quickly feel at home. That was perfect for her. For me, having been caring for her 24/7 for ten years, it was the hardest decision I had ever needed to make. To have proof that I had made the right decision was an enormous relief. Without exception, we are all human and therefore, mistakes happen. The measure of an excellent management team is how honestly and effectively such incidents are handled. In my experience this management team is exceptional."

"The staff at Hilderstone Hall are friendly and caring. I have some experience with care homes based on family and friends and this care home is on a different level allowing patients a good level of freedom whilst providing a caring and safe environment. All the staff I have met have been professional data all times and really seem to care about the residents. This place should be filed as a benchmark for all others to aspire to."

"Called to see my sister today who has dementia, straight away I was greeted with a smile and when I said who I was here to see she said 'ohh birthday girl today', what a lovely touch! Then another lady said 'oh yes she's up, dressed and ready for her birthday do you know where to go?' There was a balloon and a banner on her bedroom door and they said the chef was baking her a birthday cake. I then met a carer, what a lovely caring person, and another, both so pleasant and really interacted with my sister. She also speaks highly of another one of the other carers. I really can't praise Barchester Hilderstone Hall and the wonderful staff enough. It's not nice having to put a family member in a home but I feel so happy knowing that she's cared for and so well looked after. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the amazing work you do!"

"Undoubtedly, a well above average experience, especially in view that is based on a comparison with a previous care home (residential) for which I paid the same amount. All staff, management, nurses, carers etc. pass the test with flying colours with the exception of one individual which I am not allowed to mention but should not be employed in this superb establishment but should be sacked."

"Mum has lived at Hilderstone Hall Nursing Home for the past 18 months as a resident and the last few weeks in Memory Lane. The care from all staff has been outstanding. The warmth, kindness and quality of care is excellent and I always felt I could pop in anytime to see Mum. Mum participated in events, meals out and celebrations at the home and always had a smile. Mum kept thanking me for choosing Hilderstone Hall."

"My father and I visited 2 of the residents, one of whom was an old University friend of my father. We received a warm welcome from all of the staff at the home and they kindly arranged for us to join the resident for lunch. The lunch was very good and it was nice to be able to have more time to chat."

"I have been a resident in Barchester Hilderstone Hall Care Home for six months. During that time, I have received excellent care and treatment for all my medical and physical conditions, together with kindness, respect and good humour. The staff have obviously received good training and respond well to all of my requests for assistance. The visiting doctor, nurses and physiotherapist have also provided me with good treatment and care. My daughter is also a resident here as she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's years ago. She has received similar good care and treatment. The accommodation is very comfortable, spacious and well cared for by the staff. The food is well prepared with suitable choices. The monthly residents' meeting provides an opportunity for discussion of suggestions and they received responses and some appropriate action. With such a wide range of physical and mental disabilities, I appreciate the organising of appropriate activities presents many difficulties. However, the programme of individual and small group activities for games, artwork with paints and felt pens and cookery preparation etc. has improved. The musical programme with outside performers has been well appreciated."

"Living alone and unable to care for myself after having hip revision surgery, I chose to come here for respite care until I felt safe enough to go home. My stay has been a pleasure - due to the caring nature of every member of staff who has treated me with dignity, understanding and respect. The environment is lovely and good for walking rehabilitation."

"My mum was on the Memory Lane wing of the home. Caring for people with dementia is a challenging task. The care staff are wonderful, kind and caring. I have often witnessed small acts of kindness and compassion between cares and residents when they are unaware of anyone watching. It is indeed a home, although it looks like a five-star hotel. I couldn't be happier with the care Mum receives."

"Everyone employed here, and I mean everyone, is so friendly, helpful and caring, nothing is too much trouble. All being patient, caring and understanding. It just takes a smile to make you feel good and I have received plenty of those, especially if I am having a bad day. The last place I ever wanted to be was in a care home. Things happened so suddenly after I unexpectedly lost my husband, we had been together for more than sixty years. I am happy and content here."

"Barchester Hilderstone Hall is a godsend for my mum, my family and me. The staff are very kind, caring, professional and provide a genuine home-from-home environment for elderly people. My mum did not want to come into care and me and my family did not want it either. However, the outstanding care given has enabled her to settle well and for us, as a family, to feel reassured that she is in the best place. Thank you everyone."

"The care and attention my dad receives are fabulous. His recovery from a fall last year and mobility have been improved with the care and encouragement he receives from all the staff. His nutrition has been much better since living at Hilderstone Hall, and His preferences are accommodated. He has company from other residents and has participated in activities he wouldn't have been able to access otherwise. He has a better quality of life and is treated with care and respect. I can't express enough the reassurance I feel with my dad being cared for at Hilderstone Hall."

"I was very impressed with the whole experience of having someone I loved being in care. The staff were excellent and the rooms were always clean and pleasant. The activities were of good interest and varied. One of the staff helping with activities formed a good relationship with my friend and always listened to her. I would have no hesitation recommending Barchester Hilderstone Hall and my experience was a comfort for someone I loved."

"My mum has been a resident at Hilderstone Hall since March 2023 and the care and attention she receives has been amazing. The carers and senior carer are absolutely wonderful and nothing is ever too much trouble for them plus they are genuinely loving towards the residents which is so comforting to see. The entertainment lady is the most amazing person and puts a smile on all the residents faces and ours! She's truly the type of person you would want to entertain your loved ones, she's absolutely brilliant! The manager is also wonderful and so helpful and understanding of aspects of care. Beautiful place and currently undergoing a refurb to make it even more stunning. If I could I would move in here myself. Perhaps the only negative I could give is the extremely high cost for the stay here, think it would be helpful if it were on a scale of how much care each individual needs as Mum is completely mobile, can shower, dress and feed herself and only needs someone to give her tablets."

"Getting my uncle in the home from the hospital couldn't have been more simple. The manager organised everything perfectly. All staff couldn't be more helpful. The only negative was that there was no gluten-free food there on the day he went in. I went out myself to buy gluten-free bread for his first tea in the home."

"The staff and nursing care are outstanding. It is very comforting to see my dad very happy and contented. Following a fall in his own house, he spent 7 months in the hospital with little or no mental or physical stimulation resulting in a big decline mentally and physically. Since being a resident at Hilderstone Hall it is lovely to see 'the old Dad back'. It is thanks to all the staff for going above and beyond, treating Dad with care, dignity and respect and returning his personality."

"Care, comfort and cleanliness - respecting the very long lifetime experience, contribution to society and personal dignity of my father-in-law - are of paramount importance to him and his family. These three things embrace every aspect of what is on offer at Hilderstone Hall in our opinion. Although he may not say much himself now, we know that he is very appreciative of the attention and care that he receives and this, in itself, significantly informs our own views. In the twilight of his life, we are confident that he is welcome and loved here and our thanks to all the staff and fellow residents who make up this lovely community area are fulsome and heartfelt."

"Hilderstone have been brilliant, they managed to get both of my parents into a room together on the day they were both been discharged from hospital. My parents spent 4 weeks together, when my father became very poorly, the home provided my mum with transport to see my father and offered to let him come back for his final few days, but unfortunately he was too poorly to travel, so they helped Mum to visit and when my father passed away we had the funeral go from the hall. The staff were amazing, they helped to console my mum and to be fair a lot of the family too. I really don’t know how we would have coped without them. For us, a lot of things happened very quickly and totally unexpected, but they were completely amazing and continue to be."
