Activities at Hunters Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Ben Sandall

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Ben and I am the Activities Coordinator at Hunters.  I started working at Hunters as part of the hospitality team, but when a vacancy came up on the activities team I jumped at the opportunity.  I have seen how important a varied activities programme is and the team ensure we offer something for everyone including regular past times.

Life at Hunters Care Home

Welcome Return

It was pamper time at Hunters. Welcome back to Jennie Hunters fantastic hairdresser. One of the things the residents have really missed during lockdown is the chance to visit the hairdresser and look their best with a cut, wash and blow dry. Jennie was met by an enthusiastic crowd all eagerly waiting for her attention. It was certainly a very busy first day back.

Enjoying Spring Blooms

Although the mornings are still rather chilly the sun has been shining and warming things up at Hunters. The residents have been able to get outside and get some fresh air and enjoy the beautiful gardens at Hunters, which at the moment are full of colour with a wash of spring flowers.

Grand National Sweep Stake

The Residents as always enjoyed the Grand National from the comfort of their arm chairs. Every year the race is given a bit more of a competitive edge with the activity team organising a sweep stake. This year the race was of historic significance as a female jockey won for the first time and so it was only fitting that the sweep stake winners were all ladies. Congratulations to Gill who won with Minella Times, Bobby whose horse came in second and Margaret who took the third prize with Any Second Now.

Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal

Today residents picked a selection of daffodils from our gardens, tied them in bunches with different coloured ribbons to sell in aid of Marie Currie whose nurses offer specialist cancer care. We also listened to relaxing classical music as we made our bunches, the particular piece of music which everyone enjoyed was by an English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams called the ‘Lark Ascending’.

Easter Bonnets, Chicks and Hot Cross Buns

Easter was so much fun after making Easter bonnets and Easter chicks residents decorated the Easter tree whilst all enjoying traditional hot cross buns accompanied with a tipple. We all enjoy these celebrations so much and it is wonderful to see the residents joining in with all the activities. A big thank you to the activities team for all their hard work to make these events so special.

Easter and Spring Pictures Bring Joy to Residents

This week the residents spent a fun afternoon judging Hunters Spring and Easter Drawing competition. There were plenty of entries to choose from with a pre-school category, 4-7 and 7-11. Each category had first, second and third place prizes of Easter Eggs.  The winners were announced on the Hunter's Facebook page.  We would like to thank St Andrews School, Chedworth, Powell's School and the Duke of Gloucester pre-school for taking part.  Well done to all of our entries and congratulations to the winners, we look forward to presenting the prizes after the school holiday. The pictures are all displayed around the home and we plan to keep them up for sometime, they really are a joy to look at.
