Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Everson
Activities Coordinator & Speak Up Champion
I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.
I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day. I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!
Celebrating life at Hurstwood View Care Home

Carousel Theatre Company
We were down to standing room only this evening, as Carousel Theatre Company performed Cinderella here in our Café.
Packed to the rafters, we enjoyed a whole host of panto puns and adult innuendos that made everyone giggle!
There were plenty of opportunities for us to join in too, with the show finishing with a Christmas-themed sing-a-long. We were joined by so many families and friends, really making the evening special for all. Thank you to everyone who joined us. Who doesn’t love a Panto?! Merry Christmas!

Remembrance Sunday
This morning we marked remembrance day with a service here in our Café. Watching the coverage on the BBC, we honoured the two-minute silence, followed by The Last Post, which was played beautifully by our Resident, Nelson.
Prior to this, Nelson had played The Last Post on his Bugle for over 40 years at a local church. The service was a poignant reminder of all those who served and lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars. Thank you to everyone who joined us.
Lest we forget.

Happy birthday Hurstwood View
Today we celebrated our 13th birthday since opening, and, of course, in true Hurstwood style, we had a party.
Our Chef, Suman, made a fabulous cake which was cut by our oldest (and longest residing) Resident, Ivy.
We had a lovely afternoon of laughter, dancing and visitors in our Café. Thank you to everyone who joined us. Here’s to many more years of offering fantastic care to our community.

National Photography Day
Yesterday was #nationalphotographyday, and we headed out into our local community to test our skills! The day is set to celebrate photography as an art form, a historical record and a powerful medium for storytelling.
We used our cameras to capture nature and wildlife around our local area. We spotted lots of butterflies, birds and even a dragonfly! Some too quick for us to capture, but lovely to see nonetheless! We will be displaying our pictures and choosing our favourites in the home later this week.

Toddler group visit
We’ve had such a fun morning with our toddler group here in the home.
With a visit from the big man himself, we enjoyed toys, cake and plenty of sweets! The Café was buzzing with festive cheer, the perfect way to brighten up a miserable day!
Thank you to everyone who joined us, our next Toddler Group will be on the last Thursday in January!

Silver Wedding Anniversary
Mexican Independence Day
We celebrated Mexican Independence Day yesterday, with a day of Mexican-themed events here in the home.
The morning saw our café set up with lots of wonderful bright colours, as we navigated through our #oomph workbooks learning about the destination and its history.
At lunchtime, we hosted a selection of residents in our café, who enjoyed the delicious food prepared by our Chef. We particularly enjoyed the fish tacos, spicy soup and churros with chocolate sauce! Arriba, arriba – it was Margarita deliveries all round in the afternoon. These went down a storm and were delicious.

Sundays are for roasts
Sunday’s are for roast dinners, and today is no different! We have beef on the menu with roast potatoes, assorted green veg, swede and the tastiest yorkshire puddings.
All homemade by our talented Chefs, we use the most seasonal fresh vegetables, and accompany with a choice of condiments.
Dessert is a choice of jam sponge and custard or fresh fruit salad - delicious!
Trip to Hampden Park
We took a drive to Eastbourne today, picking up fish & chips on the way. Sitting in Hampden Park on a bench, we watched the world go by as we enjoyed our fish and chips.
Afterwards, we enjoyed a walk around the lake stopping to feed the ducks before heading home.

Acchord Voices Choir
One of the highlights of our festive calendar, The Acchord Voices Choir joined us at home this evening.
With low level lighting, twinkly Christmas lights, our favourite carols filled the home, and left no one feeling anything but festive.
After, we enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies, and in true Hurstwood style – Prosecco.
Hoedown At Hurstwood
Sheffield Park
We visited the beautiful Sheffield Park for their Heritage Open Day this morning. With acres of grade 1 listed landscaped gardens and lakes, this beautiful park is surrounded by parkland and woodland – and just on our doorstep!
We spent time wandering around their lakes, admiring the beautiful flora and fauna, and resident wildlife. We stopped for drinks and our homemade cake, before heading back to the main entrance. Surprisingly, we just about dodged the showers, and enjoyed time in the beautiful sunshine too.
Jazz
We had a visit from the hugely talented, Adam, earlier this week.
Singing Jazz tunes, playing the violin and guitar, the home was filled with song and our residents were mesmerised!
We enjoyed a Tequila Sunrise cocktail, as well as a non-alcoholic option and plenty of Prosecco! Thank you to our Chef, Suman, the cocktails were amazing!
The afternoon was made extra special as it was our lovely friend Joy’s birthday. We rounded up the fun singing happy birthday, and presenting her with a delicious cake.

Beatrix Potter's Birthday
We remembered Beatrix Potter on what would have been her birthday, with a delicious party on Memory Lane. Finger sandwiches, fairy cakes with homemade icing flowers and scones with cream and jam were served.
Our tables were decorated with items from Beatrix Potter’s most famous character, Peter Rabbit. We love our terrace on Memory Lane as it’s the perfect size for entertaining, covered from the weather, and has the most wonderful views out over the fields.
