Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Lisa Everson
I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.
I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day. I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Life at Hurstwood View Care Home
Christmas Party
It was great to have residents, families and friends join us for our annual Christmas party. We enjoyed music by a female singer, who really brought some festive spirit into the home with some great Christmas classics. We then all tucked into some home-made sausage rolls and Bucks Fizz - and not forgetting mince pies. Thank you to everyone who attended and, from all at Barchester, we wish you a merry Christmas.
Harpist
We had the honour of being joined by a harpist and flutist from the charitable organisation, ARCH. Everyone enjoyed their afternoon of music and sang along to the classic tunes. Some residents even had a go of playing the harp and were all interested to hear much more about this amazing instrument.
A Visit from the School Choir
We kick-started December with a visit from a local school choir. The children ranged from ages 3-7years old and delighted us with some lovely carols. They also brought lovely homemade cards to share around, and we finished the morning with some coffee and a mince pie. Great fun was had by everyone who attended and we are all feeling very festive at Hurstwood View right now.
Bonfire Night
We kicked off our celebrations for Bonfire Night by looking at the local Sussex traditions of the event where members of the public dress up and parade the streets of various villages and towns throughout October and November, with the big night being in Lewes on November the 5th. Leanne, our Activities Coordinator, brought in a variety of homemade costumes and information about the events and everyone had great fun trying on the different items and sharing their experiences of this local tradition.
Pet Pals - Dee the Sheep
We were treated to a delightful visit by Dee the Sheep from Petpals. She was a great hit with residents and staff throughout the home and was very well-behaved. Dee enjoyed cuddles and strokes from residents in the café before making room visits where she met a few of her own kind.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
Thank you everyone who came and enjoyed a coffee and a slice of cake with us. We also had a prize-winning raffle and raised an amazing £79 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
