Activities at Hyacinth House Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Anna Wasiak
I am a friendly and enthusiastic Activity Coordinator with a passion for working with people and making a positive impact in their lives. A Nostalgic Trip to Beautiful Beaulieu!
Our car-enthusiast resident, David had been eager to visit Beaulieu, home to the biggest motor museum in the South. Alongside David, James and Dee Dee jumped at the chance to go, having not been in years. We spent the day admiring vintage cars, reminiscing about our first cars (from Tammy’s Metro to James’s Volkswagen Beetle - which we even found on display in the same colour and age!) Enjoyed a lovely lunch and some cheeky chips.
Tired, but happy we all came home content, the best part? With our annual pass, we will be back for more car talk and good times soon!

A Wish Come True for Shirley!
Getting to know our residents means learning about their passions and past joys. For Shirley, one of those passions was the ballet - a love she cherished for years.
When we discovered that The Nutcracker was performing at the Lighthouse in Poole, we knew we had to make it happen! With the help of our wonderful residents and dedicated staff, we arranged a special night out. The performance was nothing short of magical. Shirley was absolutely thrilled to be back at the ballet once again amongst friends - and said it was an unforgettable night!

Happy Lunar New Year - It’s the Year of the Snake!
Residents at Hyacinth are celebrating the Chinese New Year, a festival that marks the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar, we enjoyed a creative session of DIY dragons and beautiful lanterns.
We discussed our favourite Chinese meal, sweet and sour and chow mein was at the top of the list, also Yuk Sung! Our lunch included a chicken chow mein option with prawn crackers and everyone received a fortune cookie!
Wishing everyone a prosperous and joyful Chinese New Year Filled with happiness and good fortune.

Drumming Up Fun and Fitness!
We tried something new, and it was a HUGE success! Using drumsticks and large exercise balls, we banged to the rhythm of the music in a fun and energetic workout. It’s a fantastic way to get moving, improve hand-eye coordination, and keep those joints active!
Tammy led the way with an enthusiastic instruction video… although her rhythm wasn’t quite as sharp as our residents’! (She kept losing her drumsticks—much to everyone’s amusement! )
The session had us laughing, moving, and working up a sweat. It got the hearts pumping and left us feeling energised!
This activity is definitely a keeper. Can’t wait to do it again!

What an afternoon to remember!
This afternoon, some of us were lucky enough to enjoy a performance at the Dementia Friendly Cake Concert by the amazing Teatime Trio from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra – and what a treat it was!
The incredibly talented trio of Kate Keats on the Cello, Owain Bailey on the Flute and Eluned Pierce on the Harp brought their magic to life and created the most beautiful, moving, and uplifting music.
Not only did we get to soak up stunning classical pieces, but we also joined in a sing-along with familiar favorites – from a Sound of Music medley to Singing in the Rain and even Fly Me to the Moon. It was a toe-tapping, heartwarming production that had us all smiling and singing!
To top it all off, we were spoiled with delicious homemade cakes and refreshments, making the afternoon even more special. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and chatted about the performance all the way home!
