Activities at Kingfisher Lodge Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Having Fun with a New Digital Tablet

We had a wonderful present arrive from Barchester Healthcare HQ, We have been gifted a Digital table for our Residents. This giant sized tablet style gadget will be used for several activities around the home. The tablet could be accessed by anyone just wanting to play on it. We can also wheel it into individual bedrooms so Residents who prefer to stay in their own rooms, don't miss out.

Just like an ordinary tablet, you can play games such as: Connect 4, Dominoes, Jigsaw puzzles, Crosswords or even game shows like “Who wants to be a millionaire”. It can connect to the internet and can even take photos/videos.

We have been using it from playing musical instruments, word puzzles, quizzing and brain training exercises to recording ourselves reading scripts on the camera. One of our Residents,  who initially wasn’t really keen to use the tablet, got to play the word search game and was so engaged in the game she ended up at level 23 and trying to beat her own time!! The "oooh’s" and "ahhh’s" when we announced the results went all around the room.

We are still learning how all the applications work but we are already loving having this fantastic equipment that enriches our lives on daily basis.

A heart warming visit from Santa Clause

Christmas at Kingfisher Lodge was magical! It was even more special for our Residents and their Families when we were surprised by a special visit by, none other than, Santa Clause!

Santa joined us for breakfast where we savoured delicious pastries, crumpets, and, of course, mince pies, as Santa sat by the beautifully decorated Christmas tree, chatting with Residents and their families while handing our thoughtful gifts.

After his visit we all agreed that there's something truly enchanting about Santa- he brings out the inner child in everyone and fills the room with the spirit of Christmas.

A heartful thank you to Santa for stopping by and making our day so special!

National Christmas Jumper Day

On December the 12th we all came together for a special coffee morning in our reception area where we ate mince pies and drank hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows all the while wearing our festive and sparkling Christmas jumpers.

Music was playing and everyone was conversing and reminiscing of Christmases gone by.

Coming together like this is so important to prevent isolation and makes the whole home feel connected.

Many staff working wore a festive jumper bringing Christmas cheer all around the home and some members of our local community visited and decorated some biscuits with residents also.

Residents and staff wearing a jumper donated to Save the children UK the official charity for national Christmas jumper day 2024.

Christmas Toddler Group Party

Every month the mini fishers toddler group come together here at Kingfisher Lodge for some wonderful intergenerational fun.

Playtime, song time, story time and snack time are always on the agenda.

This month we threw our first Toddler Christmas Party. We decorated our very own toddler tree, sang a Makaton inclusive version of Jingle Bells and had some very special guests from the North Pole visit. Yes that’s right, Santa and his head elf came to deliver some presents to some very special little people.

Residents have commented that having the children visit makes the home come alive and it’s one of our favourite times of each month.

When Charlie the Donkey came to visit

A magical Christmas experience was had by all when Kelly’s Donkeys paid our home a visit and Channel 5 News joined them.

Residents and staff got to meet this friendly and beautiful animal up close. Charlie the donkey visited every resident in the building including residents in their beds, he even managed to use the lift to visit our memory lane community upstairs.

Channel 5 News interviewed some residents who recalled their own memories of donkeys in their lives.

The smiles and Laughter in the whole building made the atmosphere electric and the whole home was uplifted with festive cheer, after all who doesn’t love a donkey.

Large print New Testament Bibles

A few weeks ago we were contacted by Good News For Everyone (previously Gideon UK) and they offered us as many Large print New Testament Bibles as we needed free of charge for our residents.

They arrived this week and after making sure every resident who wanted one had one we had enough left over for one to go in each lounge so everyone can access them.

We understand that practising faith, whatever faith that may be is vital to someone’s spiritual well being so we are so grateful to have these beautiful gifts come into our home.
