Activities at Lanercost House Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.

Emily Stubbs
Head of Activities
I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.
I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.
I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being. Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone. I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.
I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents. I love my job!
Celebrating life at Lanercost House Care Home
National biscuit day
To celebrate National biscuit day, we had some delicious biscuits to share, along with a biscuit-themed quiz, some word searches and some biscuit colouring!
What a lovely day had by all.
Solway Aviation Museum
We thought to commemorate the D-Day Landings' 81st anniversary, we would take a trip to the aviation museum. We had a look at all the World War Two memorabilia and went in the air raid shelters. It was an interesting afternoon!
We were well looked after by the people working in the museum and had a delicious coffee and cake!
Tour de Barchester
We welcomed the cycling team to Lanercost at their second stop of the day. The children from Newtown Primary School met them on the street and cycled down into the grounds with them.
They had a big welcome from residents and staff outside the home with cheering, clapping, pomp poems waving and a homemade banner. Everyone enjoyed meeting the cyclists, especially our resident ambassador, Kaye!
The ladies from the Lookout Hub, who have received a grant from the Barchester foundation in recent years, came to meet the cyclists, chatted with the team and joined us for our BBQ! It was a wonderful afternoon had by all!
VE Day 80th anniversary celebrations!
Today we enjoyed celebrating VE Day in style. We had a delicious BBQ made by our chef, James. It went down a treat.
Then we had the talented Darren singing his way through the old songs. There was a lot of singing, feet tapping and dancing!
We all had a lovely day.
World Cocktail Day!
What a wonderful day to celebrate world cocktail day. The sun was shining, and we had our new bar to show off. There was strawberry daiquiri, mojito, piña colada and other refreshing drinks to sample, all while listening to our favourite music.
The residents enjoyed the day so much, and we are already planning different activities for our bar!
Oh we do like to be beside the seaside!
What a glorious day we have had today. We chose a beautiful day for a trip to sunny Silloth. Our residents enjoyed freshly made fish and chips with a sea view, followed by a delicious ice cream. Everyone had a lovely day.
Norma, a resident here, said “Well, I’m glad I came, as I heard Silloth’s fish and chips were the best, and they weren’t wrong! Thank you for a wonderful day!”
Parent and Toddler Group
What a beautiful morning we had, the residents loved seeing the children, playing different games with them and exploring the garden as the sun decided to shine.
Intergeneration activities have so many benefits for the young and elderly, we love seeing them come together and have so much fun.
EnabLE Goes Live!
We celebrated going digital with our new electronic system, EnabLE, in style, with a wonderful social afternoon for our residents and staff with music, cake and fresh fruit.
We are extremely proud of our team for all the hard work that has gone into getting us ready for today. Thank you so much for all the extra hours and time you have given us. A special afternoon was had by all!
Ladies Day
This afternoon we had a very competitive game of carpet bowls. Both teams were very well played and nearly knocked the other team out on the final ball.
Everyone had a lot of fun and smiles on their faces. We then had a refreshing glass of Prosecco or Buck’s Fizz to quench our thirst, and a little sing song. A lovely afternoon was had by all.
