Activities at Lanercost House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our dedicated Activities Coordinators offer a wide range of mentally and physically stimulating activities for residents and families to enjoy. There are regular outings in the minibus to places of interest, such as local cafes, garden centres and parks, as well as visits from entertainers, musicians and singers - and also from PAT dogs. We host various events, such as themed days, cheese & wine evenings, in addition to offering one-to-one activity sessions, including pampering, games and puzzles. Our activities staff strive to ensure residents participate in any way they can with activities that reflect their capabilities and interests.

Emily Stubbs

Emily Stubbs

Head of Activities

I joined the Lanercost House family in June 2021 as a Care Assistant and then joined the activities team in May 2022.

I love bringing joy and fun to residents, relatives, and staff on a daily basis as well as planning and organising themed days, events, and celebrations.

I think the activities’ role is very important for Residents' well-being.  Whether they like to keep active with armchair exercises, join in with our weekly quiz or hop in the minibus for a day out - there is something for everyone.  I aim to ensure that each Resident's interests and hobbies are supported.

I am passionate about creative and sensory activities and I love to sing and dance together with Residents.  I love my job!

Celebrating life at Lanercost House Care Home

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day

We started off the celebrations in our Carlyle suite with a coffee this morning. The residents enjoyed biscuits, scones and cake!

Then in the afternoon, our Priory community and Sycamore community came together for afternoon tea. The dining room was filled with love, cake and smiling faces!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Geri, head of housekeeping, for making three beautiful cakes.

We had a lovely afternoon playing balloon games and singing along to our favourite songs, the residents love seeing the children!

It was lovely to see the children before Christmas. They had been busy making Christmas cards to give to our residents, and we had a Christmas sing song too!

We gave them a little gift for Christmas and look forward to seeing them in the new year.

Today we made some very creative and beautiful flower arrangements for pumpkins. This activity was thoroughly enjoyed in all of our communities, there was lots of chatting and laughter.

Such an enjoyable day! Christine, a resident here, said “I usually attend a flower club, so this brings back memories. It’s very nice.”

Pudding Club

This month’s pudding club we created a pineapple upside-down cake!

Our very enthusiastic residents got the spoons at the ready and worked together to make some extremely delicious pineapple cake, which went down a treat with a nice cup of tea.

Today we enjoyed a visit from some small, cute creatures. Claire's Cool Creatures brought some of her wonderful creatures to visit us! We had an amazing morning seeing them all and getting to know a lot of interesting facts about them.

Pat, a resident here, said, “weren’t they just wonderful? I loved them all!”

It was a nice way to warm up from this cold weather.

To celebrate Diwali, our residents painted Diya lamps kindly made by our receptionist Sadia, which turned out beautifully! We made a display at the front reception for everyone to see.

We also asked our residents “what lights up your life?” and here are some of their responses.

A day with Bertie

A day with Bertie

Today Bertie came for a visit and what a day it’s been!

He’s enjoyed seeing all the residents just as much as they loved seeing him. He had so many kisses, cuddles and belly rubs! It was wonderful to see so many faces light up when he went to see each resident!
