Activities at Laurel Bank Care Home

Activities are a fundamental part of a rich and varied lifestyle here at Laurel Bank Care Home, which is why we organise both physically and mentally stimulating social events for those we support. The weekly itinerary is ever-changing, and regularly includes art lessons, chair-based exercise, trips and visits from a variety of different animals, as well as one-to-one time for residents who prefer the peace and quiet. Our team actively tries to incorporate the hobbies and interests that are meaningful to residents into the activities schedule as encouragement to continue with much-loved pastimes.

Jaimy Lee Almond

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Jaimy Lee, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Laurel Bank.

I have worked in the care home industry for over nine years. I started working at Laurel Bank in 2018 as a carer, and then, I was promoted to senior carer which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I moved over to activities in 2020, as I was asked to help out and help encourage residents to join in. During this, I realised how much fun it could be and chose to stay on and got promoted to Activities Coordinator.

I love my role as every day is different and I try to make sure the residents are happy and engage in meaningful activities, this also helps support the transition for new residents.

Playtime at Laurel Bank

We were recently treated to two great performances from local schools. Willow Lane Community Primary School reenacted Shakespeare's Hamlet and Steiner Private School put on a play about the legend of St Martin's cloak – both of which were enjoyed by the residents.

Barton Grange

Barton Grange

Residents enjoyed a trop to Barton Grange Garden Centre to see the Christmas decoration and have some afternoon tea.

Pebble Art Craze - The Finale

Pebble Art Craze - The Finale

After decorating the pebbles at the home, we went to hide all of them along the prom and jetty of Morecambe. Residents, Karen and Ellie, really enjoyed their day out and loved seeing the happy faces of the children finding them. Karen even found her own 'winky face' rock, which we brought back to hide in the home's garden.

Pebble Art Craze – Take 2

Pebble Art Craze – Take 2

Here is the next installment of the pebble art craze that is taking Lancaster and Morecambe by storm.

Residents and one of our volunteers have been happily decorating their pebbles with pigs, mandalas, a yacht, dogs and much, much more. Residents enjoyed it so much that they have asked to do it again.

Pebble Art Craze

Pebble Art Craze

There is a craze in Lancaster and Morecambe that all the cool kids are getting involved in, which is called 'pebble art'. The idea is to get out and about and find all the kookily painted pebbles – and Laurel Bank has decided to take part!

Rita and Joyce went for a lovely lunch in Morecambe, followed by a stroll down the length of the beach looking for pebbles. Joyce found one decorated like a dog; we re-hid this one for other people to find and collected some pebbles for us to decorate and hide for others.
