Activities at Lawton Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Chloe Cameron

Activities Coordinator

This is Chloe and she is our Activities Coordinator here at Lawton Manor. Her job is to physically and mentally stimulate our residents by offering a range of activities for them to enjoy. She wants to get everyone involved and make our home community and atmosphere as positive and welcoming as possible.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that Chloe holds very close to her heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them. A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Minibus as we create new, special memories together.

A day trip on the canal

Day tripper residents set off down the Macclesfield canal for an afternoon of leisure cruising.  It was a glorious day and time flew by so quickly we will be returning for another trip soon. Residents spotted herons, moorhens, ducks and waved at everyone on the tow path.  For lunch we enjoyed fish and chips from a local chippy and of course stopped off for an ice cream.

The hidden gem of Blenheim Palace

We had a lovely time exploring the amazing gardens of Blenheim Palace through a virtual talk, hosted by the Historian - Antonia Keaney.

We enjoyed a virtual look at how the gardens at Blenheim have developed over the past 300 years - from the formality of Henry Wise through to the ‘natural’ landscape created by Capability Brown and beyond.

Everyone was very impressed by the many jewels hidden within the 150 acres of beautiful gardens.

World Chocolate Day!

What a morning we have all had for National Chocolate day, Residents and staff were treated to guess the chocolate brand and flavour - no prizes for the rewards - yes they were chocolate !!! We held a very chocolatey quiz, residents also learned the history of chocolate and Britain's part in making the first chocolate bar.

National chocolate day is possibly our favourite day in the home.  We are loooking forward to tnhis time next year !!!!

NATIONAL CREAM TEA DAY IS A PIECE OF CAKE AT LAWTON MANOR

Staff and residents at Lawton Manor brewed up a storm for National Cream Tea Day by hosting an afternoon tea party with a wonderful selection of baked treats and of course, lots of pots of tea

Refusing to pick a side in the controversial debate of cream before jam for the Cornish tradition or jam before cream as part of the Devonshire tradition, Lawton Manor enjoyed homemade scones both ways, all washed down with a fes-tea-val of herbal and classic teas.

Blenheim Palace WW2 virtual talk

Ahead of Armed Forces Day, we were transported back in time for a World War II themed talk and tour of Blenheim Palace, hosted by Antonia Keaney, the Palace’s social historian and author.

Entitled ‘Evacuees and Espionage,’ Antonia’s wartime themed talk focused on how the Marlborough family, estate staff and the Palace itself played a full and energetic part in the war effort.

The talk and tour told the story of how the Palace prepared for the worst, survived the onslaught of 400 boys being evacuated to Blenheim and kept the secrets of MI5.

It was a lovely experience, enjoyed by all.
