Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Life at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Residents enjoy a virtual reading and writing event

We had a great time joining journalist and novelist, Mike Gayle, for an intriguing virtual interview, during which he shared top tips for creative writing with our residents and read passages from his latest book, All the Lonely People.

We were thrilled to find out about Mike’s background, to understand what led him to become a writer and his creative process.

It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all, especially by our keen writers at the home.

Residents enjoy a Virtual Cruise Experience

We had a lovely time joining Paul Hawkins and Lisa Richards from Unilever for an exciting Virtual Cruise experience.

Our residents were welcomed with mocktails as Lisa and Paul took them on a magical journey to 3 mystery destinations, which were uncovered after a few clues.

Paul demonstrated how to create a few of the local traditional dishes, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

The event evoked lots of great memories and it was truly enjoyed by all.

Mental Health Day at Leeming Bar Grange

Residents and staff at Leeming Bar Grange have recently marked World Mental Health Day.

To promote mental wellbeing in the home they engaged in a range of mindful activities including creating nature mandalas. Mandalas are often used in mindfulness due to their ability to bring about relaxation and promote focus on the present moment. Residents were encouraged to bring their attention to the various textures, scents, patterns and colours.

According to Mental Health UK, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental Health problem. With this in mind residents and the team came together to explore positive coping strategies for supporting mental wellbeing. One incredibly important point that came up was to talk.

If you are currently struggling we implore you to speak to someone you trust, whether that be a friend, family member, or professional; you are not alone.

A child has a special way of adding joy to everyday

Residents have been enjoying more fun and games with their little friends from Bedale Day Nursery this week.

Residents and the children played ball games, created beautiful autumn pictures and sang together.

A big thank you to the team at the nursery for helping to bring even more joy into the home!

Tea for Two, and Two for Tea

Recently, we took a trip out to Chantry Hall in Bedale to Bedale Benefice of Churches', Tuesday Togetherness coffee morning.

It was a wonderful morning of relaxed conversation, delicious homemade cakes, and of course lovely warming pots of tea & coffee

Residents enjoyed the morning so much that this trip out will now be a regular part of our life enrichment programme!

A huge thank you to the volunteers and Bedale Benefice of Churches for creating a beautifully welcoming environment for our community to come together.

Residents celebrate World Animal Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Leeming Bar Grange care home in Leeming Bar were having a whale of a time when they celebrated World Animal Day on October 4th.

World Animal Day is an annual global event to celebrate all animals across the world.  It aims to raise awareness of the importance of animal welfare and endeavours to raise standards for all animals around the globe.

Residents had a brilliant time getting up close and personal with a range of cute and interesting critters from Aquatic Finatic! For many residents this was the first time they had been up close with the likes of snakes, bearded dragons and tarantulas! Animals that came along also included a rabbit, tortoise, owl, and Bailey the cocker spaniel! Residents learnt all about these fascinating animals from animal therapy facilitator; Jack. Residents also enjoyed games of animal bingo; bingo with a wild twist.
