Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert
Senior Activities Coordinator
Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.
We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.
Celebrating life at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home
Valentine's Day
This February the home was filled with warmth as we celebrated love in all its beautiful forms this Valentine’s Day! The day reminded us that love isn’t just romantic, it's kindness, companionship, memories, and simply being there for one another.
To our wonderful residents, families and team; thank you for making our home such a caring and joyful place every single day; sending love to all.

A splash of colour with new interactive happi table!
We have recently brought a new splash of colour to residents’ lives by installing a digital ‘Lifesize Happi Table’ which brings with it a whole new world of interactive possibilities.
The Happi Table is a versatile digital platform that uses all kinds of interactive games and apps to connect people with each other, their family members and friends, all while stimulating movement and cognitive activity. The Happi Table can be used individually or as a group, residents are invited to play all kinds of games, take part in activities and classes, quizzes, brain training and sensory apps, connect with others via Zoom, watch films and TV programmes, listen to music, the possibilities really are endless. It is a great way to spark discussions, get everyone up and dancing, debating, reminiscing, the Happi Table is rapidly becoming everyone’s favourite piece of kit.
Love and hugs
We were thrilled to welcome a very special visit from Little Bear Tiney Nursery to celebrate National Hug Day! The home was filled with smiles, laughter and love as residents enjoyed singing, playing, and sharing lots of cuddles with the little ones!
Not only did our visitors give the best real hugs, they also crafted beautiful keepsake hugs for our residents to treasure and keep close
A huge thank you to Little Bear Nursery for bringing so much joy, warmth and magic to our day!
Sending virtual hugs to all our friends and loved ones.
Made with love
We were delighted to welcome some very special visitors to the home over the festive period!
Volunteers from CBRE joined us for a fabulously festive bauble decorating crafternoon, bringing creativity, laughter and plenty of festive cheer! Together, we painted, glittered and personalised beautiful decorations while sharing stories and enjoying each other’s company.
A huge thank you to the CBRE team for giving their time, kindness and enthusiasm; the smiles on residents’ faces said it all.
These handmade baubles hold extra-special memories and add a truly personal touch to our festive celebrations.

Santa stroll success
Our wonderful Sole Mates Community Walking Group donned their festive attire and completed their Santa Stroll Sponsored Walk in aid of the LBG Residents’ Fund! Our merry walkers set off in full Christmas spirit, making their way to Braithwaites Garden Centre & Coffee Shop for a well-earned pit stop filled with delicious bakes and warming brews, before strolling back to the home with smiles all round!
We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part, and we’re so grateful for the joy, laughter, and sense of community shared along the way.
A huge thank you to everyone who has sponsored us; your support means the world to our residents and helps us continue creating meaningful moments like these. A big shout-out also to Braithwaites Café team for being so welcoming, and to Wendy & her pawfect boys from Jack and Pals Therapy Dogs for joining us!

Love across Generations
In the lead up to Valentine's Day, we were delighted to welcome some very special visitors from Little Bear Nursery! The residents and the little ones spent a wonderful morning together creating beautiful Valentine’s cards, sharing smiles, laughter, and love.
The children very kindly gifted residents and the team the sweetest little heart keepsakes as well as cards, which have taken pride of place in bedrooms and memory boxes alike. There were smiles all around as everyone enjoyed creativity, song, bubble popping, and, of course, lots of cuddles and hugs!
Moments like these remind us that love comes in many forms; friendship, kindness, laughter, and connection across generations. A huge thank you to Little Bear Nursery for filling the home with so much joy and happiness. We can’t wait to welcome you back soon!
Oh baby!
We were absolutely overwhelmed by the wonderful response to our recent community request for baby clothes for our empathy dolls. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of Julie, Catterick Tesco Community Champion, and April from Wishfairy in Bedale, along with friends, loved ones, and local supporters, we received a beautiful array of baby clothes.
Our residents have been loving the experience of “shopping” for clothes here in the home; choosing outfits, dressing their babies, and taking great pride in caring for them. It has brought so many smiles, beautiful conversations, and meaningful moments.
Your generosity has made a real difference and has added so much joy to daily life here. Thank you all for helping us create such special moments for our residents.
Rockin' N Rollin'
We were all shook up this January as we celebrated what would have been Elvis Presley’s birthday with a fun-filled Zumba session led by fabulous instructor David!
Everyone got rockin' and rollin' to Elvis classics and other much-loved hits from the decades, participating in ways that felt most comfortable and manageable for them; from toe-tapping and shoulder shimmying to full body grooving!
The room was filled with music, laughter, and plenty of energy as everyone engaged at their own pace, proving that it’s not about how you move, but that you move and enjoy the moment!
Thank you David for bringing such joy and rhythm to our day whilst celebrating the King of Rock 'N' Roll!

Communion and carols
We were truly blessed this festive season and we welcomed the very kind folk from Bedale Benefice of Churches into the home for a beautiful morning of communion and carols.
Residents, the team, and loved ones sang their hearts out to much-loved Christmas carols, filling the home with joy, warmth and togetherness. It was a wonderful reminder of the true spirit of the season and brought everyone together in such a special way!
A huge thank you to Reverend Canon Simon, Chaplain Michelle, and Trainee Reverend Lee, for taking the time to visit us and share this meaningful and uplifting morning; it was very much appreciated by all.
Elf Day
This December we celebrated Elf Day in aid of Alzheimer's Society with a day of mischief & merriment!
Residents were full of festive joy as musical duo Sing and Smile Duo jingled their way through all the classic Christmas hits, with a little rock ’n’ roll twist to keep everyone’s toes rockin’ around the Christmas tree! There were laughs, dancing, and plenty of self-esteem-boosting moments as everyone joined in the festive fun!
A huge thank you to Susan & David from Sing and Smile, and everyone who helped make today so exceptional!
Paws-itively Wonderful Visitors
Residents and the team are thrilled to welcome Therapy Dogs Alf and Billy from Jack and Pals Therapy Dogs for their weekly visits!
There are always bright smiles and cuddles a-plenty, with heartwarming moments created as Alf and Billy make their rounds, spreading comfort and joy wherever they go!
From gentle strokes to playful paw-shakes, these visits are always simply un-fur-gettable, with residents fondly reminiscing of beloved pets from years gone by; proving that the love of a dog is truly timeless.
A huge thank you to our pawfect boys and Mum Wendy for creating smiles wherever you go!

Housekeeper celebrates 10-years of long service
One of our housekeepers has received a prestigious Long Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years.
Darron, now Housekeeper, started at Barchester in January 2016 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Pawsome VIPs
Recently we were delighted to welcome Jack and Pals Therapy Dogs, fresh from their appearance on the recent Christmas special of Channel 5's The Yorkshire Vet! To make the occasion extra special, everyone enjoyed a screening of the episode, followed by an informative Q&A with Wendy, who shared behind-the-scenes stories about the filming!
The visit ended with cuddles, smiles, and even a very special souvenir; a ‘pawtograph’ from our four-legged stars!
Huge congratulations to Wendy on this fantastic achievement; we are so proud! And a heartfelt thank you for everything you do for us; bringing comfort, happiness, and so many smiles to our residents and team alike!
Magical Moments
This December residents enjoyed the most heart-warming trip on the home’s minibus to a very special carol concert at the breathtaking Ripon Cathedral. The concert, beautifully performed by the children of Queen Ethelburga's School, was nothing short of magical.
We are incredibly grateful to Queen Ethelburga’s for the special invitation and for helping make our residents’ wishes come true. Watching the children sing in such a magnificent setting was a moment they will forever treasure.
A huge thank you to Jen for helping to arrange this meaningful experience, and for chauffeuring residents so they could enjoy every moment.

Home host Christmas Fete for local community
Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Leeming Bar to enjoy a wonderful Christmas Fete.
The wonderful Carole from ‘Cats Pyjamas Theatre Productions’ got the festive frolics well underway as she sang her heart out to everyone’s favourite Christmas hits of the decades, complete with many a costume change!
As Carole's sweet melodies filled the home there was opportunity to browse all that the wonderful stall holders had in store. There were delicious cakes and bakes, an indulgent hot chocolate station, along with beautiful homemade craft and gift items.
