What our families say on carehome.co.uk
"My dad went into respite at Barchester Leeming Bar Grange Care Home in September. It was a difficult decision to do, however, it was helped by the care and consideration by all staff towards not only my dad but to me and my sister. I can only thank them for their kindness, help and care in what has been a very difficult time for us as a family."

"Having spent three years in Leeming Bar Grange my mother passed away in their care. They could not have been more caring or loving towards her. The care home truly became her home. As a visitor we always felt comfortable and knew she was well cared for and treated as an individual person."

"The home has a welcoming friendly atmosphere and the staff make eye contact and acknowledge your presence. My father is cared for and is settled. Any concerns we express are dealt with as promptly as the staff can arrange and if not strategies are put in place to overcome the problems/requests."

"Room showed to the family on the evening before arrival was not ready. Bathroom needed work to make it safe, smelled of urine and nothing like room showed when looking around. My mother was given the room that we had been shown around after my sister spoke to management. We were warned that there could potentially be problems with the lady in opposite room due to her wanting room empty. There have been a few incidents but we are hoping staff will intervene and the problem will be sorted. The staff are very caring and as visitors, we are made to feel very welcome. Surprise with top up after social services told us it was around £50."

"My mum has been at this home for five years. She has always been treated with respect and cared for really well. Staff are friendly and helpful if we have any problems. Food and snacks are always appealing and tasty. We like the fact that we can visit at any time of the day and are free to use the kitchen to make tea etc as and when we please. The staff work in a very challenging environment and do so with the utmost patience and care."

"As a family, we are very pleased with the care that our mother receives at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home. She has been there for about three and a half years and we have had no problems at all. The staff even though there has been quite a turnover, have all been wonderful with Mum and she is much more content than when she lived at home. Any health issues have been discussed with us and we have been involved at all stages in discussion about her care."

"The staff are excellent and are caring for the residents in their care. As I visit regularly to see what is going I am concerned about the staff welfare. There never seems to be enough staff on the floor, especially at nighttime - hence the staff that are working more hours, not able to get holidays taken and therefore, are worn out. It seems to me that staff are leaving to go to other care homes and I can only think it is due to being understaffed or for more pay. The home itself is brilliant and modern, and I am looking forward to meeting the new manager."

"My auntie was quite poorly when she came to Leeming Bar Grange and we can't fault any part of her care. All the staff were very helpful and supportive and made her last few days as comfortable as possible. They also made all her family welcome to visit at any time. On the sad night that she passed away, one of the carers kept up CPR until the ambulance arrived which gave us time to spend with her. That same carer also attended the funeral."

"Mum has only just moved in - I was very impressed with the initial visit. The visit to mums flat or assessment, the introduction on booking in/arriving. It is a very distressing time for me and all staff made it as smooth as possible for mum and myself."

"Visiting my husband with dementia I have been very impressed with the running and accommodation in general. We could not have picked a better home. The staff have been so helpful and cheerful and nothing is too much for them. My husband has been very well cared for and his room is always clean and tidy. In fact I was so happy with the care home that I would have liked for him to stay but he wanted to be back home. I am hoping to arrange more respite in the future. Thanking you."

"Generally, my experience has been good at the home. There has however been a number of occasions when I have been unable to find care staff to help my dad and I have heard staff saying how short staffed they are. I have raised concerns about the quality of food and I still feel this is an area which needs further improvement along with an increase in staff who want to care for those suffering from dementia."

"All the staff I've met so far have been welcoming and always ready to assist/answers questions. My father has only been here for two days but all the staff knows who he is. Staff working towards enabling my father to return home which is what my father and his family have requested."

"My husband has been in Leeming Bar Grange Care Home for just over two years, and during that time he has been cared for extremely well. The carers are considerate and kind to him and treat him with respect. The home itself is clean and fresh, and the residents too, are kept clean and tidy, with clothes being regularly changed and laundered. Articles do occasionally go missing, socks being the main culprit. The food, generally is good and well cooked, although sometimes lacking in variety. I would certainly recommend Leeming Bar Grange to anyone who is considering putting a relative into care."

"When my sister and I first viewed it we found the staff were very welcoming and friendly. We were shown around and we're both impressed we didn't go and view any other care home. We both felt it was a perfect place for mam. They have given her one of the raised flower beds to do as she pleases."

"He has now been residing in the home for 2 months and unfortunately seems to have become less mobile than he was, due to his illness. He has been cared for by the staff at Leeming Bar Grange in a very caring and professional way. They have afforded him his dignity at all times. When we visit, he always looks clean and cared for. We have always found the staff to be very friendly, open and honest with us regarding his welfare. The home is always kept clean and smells fresh. The bedrooms are well equipped. The activities calendar offers a wide variety of entertainment. The home is always nice and warm and has a homely atmosphere about. During his stay we, the family, have had a peace of mind, knowing he is with people who are well equipped to care for his needs. He is in his 93rd year and has become very frail and confused now. We would be very happy for him to become a permanent resident here, as we believe Leeming Bar Grange is a high achiever in the care of the elderly."

"Having visited my father-in-law regularly over the last 3 months the home always seems to be clean and tidy and the staff are always friendly and helpful interacting well with the residents. There always seems to be plenty of varied activities going on if people wish to take part, but also quiet areas if people just wish to sit."

"We were looking for a month's respite care for my 92-year-old aunt whilst my husband had a heart operation. On first viewing of Leeming Bar Grange, we were impressed by the friendly atmosphere and professionalism of the staff, the cleanliness and the way in which the residents looked cared for. When my husband suffered a stroke the staff were amazing and could not have been more helpful, so I could concentrate on my husband. My aunt stayed for 3 months and said it was very comfortable and everyone was very friendly. She has vascular dementia, Alzheimer’s, macular degeneration and a colostomy bag. She is also notoriously difficult to please and can be quite awkward. The staff handled her very well. She also needed a routine operation during her stay. When I took her for the pre-assessment the nurse was very impressed with the information the home provided and also with the condition of her skin. I felt welcome to visit at any time. If we need respite care in the future, we will certainly return."

"I was a respite care client for a month. The staff are wonderful, and they create the warm heart of this care home. They are universally kind, helpful, informative, and professionally skilled. The whole establishment runs smoothly - the staff help each other immediately when they see it is needed. During my stay, there were several occasions when I was given unexpected extra help. The food is excellent, with well designed and balanced menus. All this creates a very happy atmosphere. I would be happy to go back when I next want respite care, or eventually long-term care."

"Staff exceptionally and unvaryingly kind to residents which is the most important thing of all Any problems are trivial but the quality of the care (and of the food) provided is evidential by mum's condition. She's fitter and calmly cheerful, very different from 4 years ago. She has hardly any falls now and those are very minor. Previously, she fell often and was in hospital several times. This is a tribute to Leeming Bar Grange Care Home."

"My partner has been in Leeming Bar Grange for 2 years. In this time, he has deteriorated but the care has remained the same. Staff are very friendly, they all care about the residents, know each resident by their first names. Activities are excellent, particularly the visits from local school children which stimulates residents with dementia/Alzheimers. The only thing is "where do all his socks go?""

"Mum has been at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home for just over two years. We have been continually impressed by the level of care and kindness shown to her. Staff are always prepared to go the extra mile. We have specific praise for the activities provided. "Leeming Bar Grange is on first impression a clean, hygienic, modern and well-constructed care home. The staff are very welcoming operating an "open door" policy which is very reassuring, we are welcome to visit at any time we wish which helps fit in with work hours and other family commitments. My Dad has a very nice room with an en suite and everything is maintained to a high standard and kept immaculately clean on a daily basis. The room is very well equipped for his particular needs, taking into account his safety and comfort. The staff are very friendly, helpful and polite to our family and very caring of my father and they also are keen to maintain dignity and to always treat my father with respect. He is showered, shaved and dressed each morning and changed if necessary during the day. The staff are very positive and enjoy a joke with my father which has been a great help in settling him into the home. At first, he was very subdued but the staff soon improved his humour."

"The staff are all very caring and the food is good. I do find that communication is a problem. It would be very helpful to have a nominated key worker for each resident. As regards activities they are limited at the moment upstairs. It would be very nice if music could be played in the sitting room as often happens downstairs. Armchair exercises would also be desirable on a regular basis. In the summer it would be good if residents could be taken outside to sit under the nice umbrellas or walk around the excellent gardens. It is nice to see the windows upstairs are usually open in fine weather."

"Both my parents moved into the care home within a few weeks of each other (March 2018/April 2018). The first few months in the home were difficult for both my parents, who found it very difficult to adjust to life in a home. My mum was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and needed extra support. Both my parents were encouraged to join in with a number of weekly activities, especially the singing which they really enjoyed and life became a little easier. Sadly, my mum passed away in July, the staff that looked after Mum have been incredibly supportive to my dad, brother and myself. Dad has been greatly affected by Mum's death and I am grateful for the support and care that he is receiving by members of the staff at Brighterkind. He is closely monitored and my brother and I are updated regularly regarding his progress. Communication between the home and myself has improved over the last few months."

"A homely home, genuinely caring staff, from cleaners to the manager and all in between. Excellent activities and social interaction bespoke to the residents' likes and wishes. Nothing seems to be too much trouble. I feel completely rest assured that my mum is very well looked after in all aspects of her life and if there are any issues, health concerns, I am kept up to date. I recommend Barchester Leeming Bar Grange Care Home to everyone I encounter. Thank you for all you do, it is much appreciated."

"After eight and a half years, my mum reached end of life. She was very well looked after and was happy throughout. In spite of a high turnover of managers, there is a hard core who remain loyal and have offered their 'love' and 'care' for Mum. This core of staff instills expectations amongst other staff and so I believe it is an excellent home. At the end of life, my mum was treated with utmost respect and dignity and the night staff were diligent in their duties and work very hard. I cannot thank all the staff enough for their care. Thank you."

"My husband was admitted to Leeming Bar Grange Care Home earlier this month for two weeks respite care as I was struggling with my health and finding it difficult to cope. My husband was greeted by name by all the staff on arrival and immediately felt at ease. The facilities and rooms at the home are of a very high standard and the food menus varied and nutritious. My husband soon settled which was a comfort to me as we had never been apart for over fifty years. All the staff are extremely caring and helpful and the residents always seem to be very happy and mix well. I felt reassured that my husband would be very well taken care of and indeed he was and friends and relatives who visited him in my absence all said they had been made very welcome and served tea and refreshments during their visit. I would not hesitate for my husband to spend more time at this home if it should become necessary in the future."
