Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Residents celebrate World Heart Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Leeming Bar Grange care home have been marking World Heart Day by taking part in a range of different activities to promote good heart health.

Staff and residents got into the spirit of the day by taking part in a healthy eating masterclass at their rise & shine breakfast club; creating their own smoothies using a selection of delicious fresh fruits & vegetables. In the afternoon residents enjoyed live musical entertainment from singer Laurie Bennett. Laurie had resident’s hearts swooning, whilst also providing an opportunity to promote good heart health through lots of dancing; from seated ballet to jiving!

Residents celebrate International Day of Peace

To mark the International Day of Peace on 21st September residents and the team came together to create a 'peace nook'; a welcoming space for relaxation and contemplation.

Whilst creating this space we discussed what peace is, in both a global and personal context. One theme in particular we kept returning to was togetherness, and the power of connection.

The days activities provided an inspiring reminder of what people can create and achieve when they come together, and as one very wise resident commented "an open heart and open mind is all we need".

Residents have a Latte fun at Macmillan Coffee Morning

Leeming Bar Grange held their annual Macmillan coffee morning & bake sale in their garden to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Having a coffee morning is the perfect chance to catch up over a cuppa and a slice of something delicious for a great cause. The money raised helps everyone with cancer to live life as fully as they can

Residents enjoyed spending time with friends and relatives, whilst accordionist Doug Harrison showcased his talents! Chef Janet baked lots of lovely cakes & biscuits for everyone to sample and for guests to buy to take home. The team got involved with the baking also; everyone was spoilt for choice! Team leader Tracey's Orange & Cointreau cake was a huge hit!

Thank you to everyone who came along and made the morning a huge success. Thanks to your generosity we managed to raise an impressive £107.50!

Residents enjoy weekly visit from their little friends!

There was big smiles again this week at Leeming Bar Grange as their lovely little friends from Bedale Nursery visited.

The autumn sun shone brightly as children and residents played games, read books, and got creative together!

The children were kind enough to help residents create some doves for our International Day of Peace display; and what a fabulous job they did.

Thank you again to Bedale Day Nursery for continuing to help create joy at the home!

Thank you to our wonderful Housekeeping team

This week we celebrated Housekeeping Week!

Housekeeping Week is an annual event held every year during the second week in September. The week is dedicated to recognising the efforts of hard-working housekeeping staff around the world.

Residents & the team begun the week reminiscing about how housekeeping has changed during their lifetime, and took a trip back to the Victorian era to learn all about historic housekeeping!

If you have ever visited the home you will know that our housekeeping team continually go above and beyond to make a real difference to the lives of those living at LBG. To give thanks to our wonderful team the residents & team created a Henry hamper of goodies and handmade card for all to enjoy!

A huge thank you to every member of our housekeeping team for you continuous hard work and efforts.
