Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Mini Bus Adventures!

Residents recently enjoyed an outing to Mainsgill Farmshop where not only did we get to sample a delicious array of artisan treats we also got up close and personal with the likes of camels, llamas, donkeys & pigs!

The adventure didn’t stop there as we re-boarded the mini bus to be very kindly chauffeured to Eggleston Abbey! As we looked out over the 12th century abbey ruins we enjoyed a picnic specially made by kitchen assistant Simon, with endless brews and some beautiful elderflower wine purchased at the farm shop

Our wonderful driver Ken then took us for a tour of Barnard Castle giving an interesting insight into this lovely historic town. Bringing back memories for one resident in particular who used to live at 'Good Ol' Barny' as fondly refers to the town

Another fantastic adventure!

World Cup Final

Residents and the team proudly waved their flags and enjoyed shandies as they cheered on the lionesses!

We are incredibly proud of the team for reaching the Women's World Cup Final. Whilst it might not have been the outcome we were hoping for; this is still an incredible achievement!

Happy Fri-Yay!

What better way to celebrate Friday, or any day of the week for that matter, than with a few cheeky cocktails!

Residents enjoyed personalised cocktails created to represent their sweet personalities, interests, and adventurous natures! Garnished with fruits, cream, and residents favourite confectionery; the boozy creations went down an absolute treat!

Cheers to Friday!

Petals & Posies Afternoon Tea

On 11th August we celebrated Afternoon Tea Week with a floral themed Afternoon Tea in the glorious sunshine!  Residents enjoyed traditional afternoon tea fare including delicious sandwiches, cakes, and scones decorated with edible flowers; all washed down with chilled rosebud lemonade! Whilst crooner Laurie Bennett serenaded us with hits from the decades

Adventurous resident Lynda commented "you only live once" as she took a nibble of a rosebud, with pleasant surprise Lynda thought this was actually quite nice resembling Turkish delight. Resident June however has decided that she will "give that one a miss next time" 😂

A big thank you to chef Karen & Kitchen Assistant Lorna for creating the yummy treats

Wonderful Whitby

Our mini bus adventures took us to the wonderful coastal town of Whitby! Residents and the team brought blue skies & sunshine with them to this beautiful historic town!  Whilst taking in the seaside sounds and sights we sat down by the harbour to enjoy one of kitchen assistant Simon's famous picnics; followed by a meander along the seafront and ending up at a lovely little bar for ice cream, and a good ol' cup of Yorkshire tea

And of course resident Ann was able to get her fix of her beloved Captain Cook. A wonderful afternoon of fond reminiscence, laughs shared & meaningful moments created.

A huge thank you to drivers Ken & Michelle, and Tracey and Jane for volunteering. Along with our fabulous sister home Boroughbridge Manor Care Home for allowing us to borrow their mini bus, meaning we were able to take as many residents as possible to join in the fun.

Captain Cook Expedition

Anyone who has ever met the lovely Ann will likely have heard all about her admiration of Captain James Cook; describing the explorer as her hero.

We love to find out all about our residents passions and encourage those sparks of joy that truly ignite a zest for life! So what better excuse than to forge our own expedition of discovery!  The first stop in our Captain Cook expedition saw us take a trip to Captain Cook Birthplace Museum. This fabulous museum is situated close to the granite urn which marks the site of Cook's birthplace cottage and boasts an array of artefacts relating to Cook's voyages.

Ann and her friends were in awe of the exhibitions and loved being immersed in all things Cook! Ann's smile says it all! Residents cannot wait for the next stop in the adventure; Whitby!
