Activities at Leeming Bar Grange Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Kimberley Calvert

Senior Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Kimberley, Senior Activities Coordinator, and here at Leeming Bar our life enrichment programme is varied, providing choice for our residents and incorporating their interests and hobbies.  We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within Leeming Bar, and we work together to give residents the best possible experience.

We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active. We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centred program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents, and their families and friends.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Wonders of the ocean

Residents across our services enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of The Deep, an award-winning aquarium in Hull.

Our residents dived into the underwater world of some fascinating creatures such as sharks, turtles and stingrays.

It was a truly immersive and educational experience that brought the wonders of the ocean right to our screens.

International Firefighters Day

To mark International Firefighters Day residents enjoyed an outing to Northallerton Fire Station to thank the incredible people who work tirelessly to keep our community safe.

We were welcomed with open arms by firefighter Adrian Johnson who accepted Barchester goodie bags filled with gifts, treats, and homemade cards, on behalf of the crew.

This day of recognition is also particularly important to resident Alma whose late husband was a firefighter. Alma spoke of the incredible commitment of her husband and his colleagues and was thrilled to be able to show her appreciation; choosing lots of sweet treats to gift to the amazing folk at Northallerton Fire Station!

A huge thank you to North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service and beyond for the remarkable bravery and commitment provided to the community each and every day! And to Adrian for being so welcoming and taking time to speak with us.

Bless Em All!

This May we marked the 79th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day with a great British knees up!

VE Day is an incredibly significant day to many of our residents, with a number of residents living through the war years. Residents came together to enthusiastically share their experiences of VE day from listening to Churchill's famous speech, to street parties, and the lights coming on!

And with serendipitous timing the clouds parted and the sun shone brightly just as the fabulous Laurie Bennett began serenading us with our favourite wartime classics! And in great British style residents passionately sang along whilst proudly waving their flags and sipping on bubbly!

A wonderful day to remember that there is always hope for a bright future!

Families Picnic

Just as the sun shone brightly, so did the wonderful smiles at our Families Picnic to mark International Day of Families!

Residents and their loved ones came together in the homes garden to enjoy a picnic feast lovingly prepared by head chef Toni and her dining team; from traditional sandwiches, quiche, and sausage rolls to treats of yesteryear such as vol-au-vents and cheese & pineapple on a stick! And not forgetting the indulgent cream scones and Victoria sponge; there certainly was something for everyone!

Celebrating Cadbury's

Residents across our services had a wonderful time joining Cadbury for an interactive virtual talk on their fascinating 200-year history.

Residents joining learnt interesting facts about the chocolate giant, shared memories, and reminisced about their favourite sweet treats.

It was a heartwarming experience filled with laughter, nostalgia, and plenty of chocolatey goodness!
