Activities at Leonard Lodge Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Our activities team offer a wide range of social events, from the very popular Friday morning bingo, to gentle exercise sessions, skittles, regular animal visits and arts & crafts sessions. We are fortunate to have a team of volunteers who stop by weekly to provide additional support, allowing residents the opportunity for one-to-one sessions. These sessions could include anything, even something as simple as playing a game of Scrabble or just having a cup of tea and a chat. We believe that it is essential to support people in such a way that they are able to continue to live full and happy lives doing the things that they enjoy.

Lynn Amiri

Activities Coordinator

My name is Lynn and I lead the Activities Team here at Leonard Lodge.

Since working at Leonard Lodge I have dedicated myself to ensuring that each of our residents can continue to partake in the hobbies that they have enjoyed for years. It is important that all of the residents here have access to life enriching, fun and social activities.

The whole home supports my team and I to organise activities, events and entertainment tailored to every residents preferences, abilities and needs. Each year we have a fantastically full calendar, and we look forward to the future when we can invite the families of residents to join us in the home again.

I am married with two children and two rather annoying rescue cats. I lived in Italy for a number of years and love all Italian food, especially when somebody else cooks it for me! I love to read, especially crime novels. I am a regular theatre goer with a passion for musicals. I like to sing and dance (albeit badly!).

Celebrating Father Figures

Earlier this week, we were invited to St. Joseph the Worker School in Hutton for their Father’s Day assembly, where our very own resident Ken was guest of honour.

Today, we’re celebrating the father figures in our care home community—dads, grandads, and all the men who’ve played an important role in the lives of others.

Thank you for everything you bring to our home!

Special Visit from Hutton Preschool’s “2 Little Birds”

We had the sweetest visit from the little ones at Hutton Preschool! They sang beautifully for our residents, including 'He's got the whole world in his hands' and 'Reach for the Stars', then sat down together for some colourful fun with colouring pencils and big smiles all around.

These moments mean so much—thank you to Hutton Preschool 2LB for brightening our day!

Messing about by the water

Supporting residents to enjoy outings, shopping, meals out and other trips is a key aspect of the weekly activities calendar.

Our Residents enjoyed a trip to Hanningfield Reservoir where they could enjoy some fresh air and messing about on the reservoir   After enjoying the sights and feeding the local wildlife we stopped off at the Waterside Café for a treat of coffee and cakes!

Regular outings are just one aspect of our life enrichment program at Leonard Lodge Care Home and all the trips we take are at the request of the residents. Our monthly activities calendar boasts a range of outings and entertainment.

We were lucky to receive another generous donation of fresh, beautiful flowers today from our wonderful supporters at Jasmine Bleu.

Each delivery brings so much joy to our residents — just look at our gorgeous Barbara and Millie, absolutely glowing beside their blooms!

Thank you to Maizy at Jasmine Bleu for taking the extra time to pre-arrange many of the flowers for us. Your kindness is much appreciated.

Ruby and Robbie Visit!

Performing Pets brought joy to our residents today with their monthly visit—this time featuring Ruby and Robbie, the adorable African Pygmy goats!

Their small size made them perfect for cuddles, and our lucky residents couldn’t get enough of them. For many, it was love at first sight! The positive impact of these pet therapy visits is truly heartwarming, bringing smiles, comfort, and a sense of connection.

Why not join us for next month’s visit? You won’t want to miss it!

Mothers Day Assembly

St. Joseph the Worker Primary School invited our residents to help judge their Mother’s Day drawing competition, and they were delighted to take part!

We’ve spent the week enjoying the wonderful portraits of mums, and they certainly brought big smiles to our faces. The talent among these young artists was truly impressive.

On Friday, we were invited to their special Mother’s Day assembly, where the winners were announced and presented with Easter eggs. We loved hearing the children sing, and afterward, we were treated to tea and biscuits. It was a heartwarming experience for all!

🇮🇪 Lá Fhéile Pádraig: A Joyful Celebration!

What a grand time we all had celebrating St. Patrick’s Day today! 💚

We kicked off the day with a bit of craic as our residents got creative in a St. Patrick’s Day-themed colouring competition—congratulations to our winner, Harry!

In the afternoon, we enjoyed some Irish-themed games and quizzes, testing our knowledge and sharing many laughs. To top it all off, we raised a glass (Sláinte!) with a Guinness tasting to kick off Nutrition and Hydration Week. It’s safe to say everyone had a whale of a time!

Royal Albert Hall Trip!

Barchester Leonard Lodge Care Home in Hutton was alive with music this week as Albert’s Band performed two wonderful sets for the residents.

Mike, Seb, and Cassandra, part of a talented six-piece group from the Royal Albert Hall, bring music into the community every week, and residents, families and staff were delighted to welcome them to Leonard Lodge.

Their repertoire included classics from Leonard Bernstein, Vera Lynn, and The Beatles, filling the room with nostalgia and joy. With commemorative songbooks in hand, residents sang along, creating a truly special atmosphere.

As well as enjoying the music, residents also heard about the vast musical history of one of the world’s most iconic venues. General manager Fiona Crickmore said "A heartfelt thank you to Mike, Seb, and Cassandra for sharing their exceptional musicianship and making the day so memorable for us all."
