Activities at Leonard Lodge Care Home

Our activities team offer a wide range of social events, from the very popular Friday morning bingo, to gentle exercise sessions, skittles, regular animal visits and arts & crafts sessions. We are fortunate to have a team of volunteers who stop by weekly to provide additional support, allowing residents the opportunity for one-to-one sessions. These sessions could include anything, even something as simple as playing a game of Scrabble or just having a cup of tea and a chat. We believe that it is essential to support people in such a way that they are able to continue to live full and happy lives doing the things that they enjoy.

Lynn Amiri

Activities Coordinator

My name is Lynn and I lead the Activities Team here at Leonard Lodge.

Since working at Leonard Lodge I have dedicated myself to ensuring that each of our residents can continue to partake in the hobbies that they have enjoyed for years. It is important that all of the residents here have access to life enriching, fun and social activities.

The whole home supports my team and I to organise activities, events and entertainment tailored to every residents preferences, abilities and needs. Each year we have a fantastically full calendar, and we look forward to the future when we can invite the families of residents to join us in the home again.

I am married with two children and two rather annoying rescue cats. I lived in Italy for a number of years and love all Italian food, especially when somebody else cooks it for me! I love to read, especially crime novels. I am a regular theatre goer with a passion for musicals. I like to sing and dance (albeit badly!).

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day was packed with treats for residents at Leonard Lodge. It started out with a coffee morning with sweet treats, heart shaped of course, delivered in individual red boxes.

In the afternoon we had an Elvis tribute concert accompanied by a delicious Afternoon Tea and a glass of bubbly. Residents were encouraged to dress as Elvis for the occasion and there were some really good impressions. Residents said it was a day to remember.

Magic Table

At Leonard Lodge we were among one of the first Barchester homes to get a Magic Table, which is an interactive light projector which promotes stimulation through specialised games, and supports increased physical and social interactions. Over the last couple of years the table has been used extensively by the residents. Sometimes we arrange Magic Table sessions and invite residents to join in, but sometimes we just leave the table on the random games setting.

Today Memory Lane resident Tony was attracted to the table by the sound of rustling leaves and spent a happy hour sweeping the leaves away and finding the items and animals hidden within. Tony was standing up and moving round, so was getting exercise and was reminiscing about sweeping up leaves in his garden. Tony found it a calming and gentle activity.

Burns Night

For Burns celebrations at Leonard Lodge we watched and listened to ‘Tunes in the Hoose’, which is an online musical community born out of lockdown, designed to provide musicians in the traditional Scottish genre the means of collaborating in the form of daily virtualised music performances.

We also held a Burns quiz, read poems and discussed various facts about Robert Burns, the residents found the discussion very informative.

Vaccination Day At Leonard Lodge

We are delighted to announce that the staff and residents at Leonard Lodge all received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination over the weekend. This is a huge step forward to protecting the residents and team from the pandemic.

General Manager, Mihaela Munteanu said: “Last year was a year like never before and the vaccine feels like the light at the end of the tunnel at last. My team have been amazing and have risen to every challenge during this pandemic. We all cheered when we heard that we were getting the vaccine. I am so proud that we are playing our part to ensure the most vulnerable are protected.”

Thank you to the NHS vaccination team!

Christmas Post

We are all prepared for Christmas and have a lovely postbox in reception, which is currently empty. The postbox will take Christmas cards and Carehome.co.uk reviews. If you have items to drop off, please knock and the office staff will come to the door to take them.

Christmas Jumper Day

Staff and residents took part in Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day, and to make things even more fun, Activities Coordinator, Julie, set up a photo booth. There were props, an artificial log fire, a beautifully decorated tree and some willing participants. We had a fun day and raised money for a worthwhile cause.
