Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Paula Courtney
Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog. I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger. My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly. I am delighted to be back working with the team.
I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites! My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events. Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University. As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Life at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home
Summer Hawaiian Beach Party
Today was an amazing day! The team at Barchester Llys-Y-Tywysog pulled out all the stops for their summer Hawaiian Beach Party and the residents loved every second. From the decorations, the food and drink through to the ukulele band the atmosphere was fantastic. There were so many hi-lights, everyone loved building sand castles and dipping their feet in the paddling pool all whilst drinking mocktails! Then there were some very special guests, it really was a wonderful day.
International Beer Day
Over the weekend residents celebrated International Beer Day, by enjoying a selection of beers (and some wine!) along with a cheese board. It was a very enjoyable and sociable event
Grow Your Own!
Today our food miles were yards, as our chefs stepped outside into the gardens to pick lettuce for tea time sandwiches. The seeds planted by the residents are now fresh produce to enjoy and you can't beat the taste of home grown.
New Bird Feeders
Llys-Y-Tywysog's tranquil gardens attract a variety of wildlife, but residents recently suggested adding some larger bird feeders to increase the number and variety of birds. Today we set to work setting up the new feeders and we are hoping tweets will spread the word!
Trip to Fendrod Lake for Picnic
On our latest trip out we enjoyed a wonderful picnic and walk around Fendrod Lake at Llansamlet. There were plenty of ducks and geese to enjoy the crusts from the sandwiches! It was relaxing sat in the sun and taking in the fresh air at this beautiful location.
Relaxing Sunday Afternoon
It was a relaxing Sunday afternoon, in fact it was a bit like a winter afternoon! After a delicious Sunday roast some of the residents settled down to watch the Olympics, while others took on the challenge of puzzles.
