Activites at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Read our brochure ‘Life-enriching activities’ for more information about life in our care homes.

Paula Courtney
Activities Coordinator
Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog. I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger. My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly. I am delighted to be back working with the team.
I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites! My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events. Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University. As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.
Celebrating life at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home
British flower week
Today we took a trip to our local garden centre in Pontarddulais. Residents enjoy going here to look at all of the beautiful flowers and to have a nice cup of coffee.
The residents also enjoy feeding the ducks in the pond. It’s a fun day for all to enjoy.
Local Community Show
We were invited by our local Primary School for a fun event in our local club in Grovesend. Robbie-Lee was singing live for us. Residents enjoyed singing and dancing with the school children and staff.
Thank you to Pengelli Primary School for organising this event. Our residents really enjoyed it and the smiles on their faces were priceless.
Matt's 90th Birthday
Matt’s family and wife Barbara helped organise a big surprise 90th birthday party for Matt! We had Elvis rocking the building with all of his favourite songs. Residents were dancing and so were family members. The buffet was delicious and enjoyed by all. Matt enjoyed the company and said “you didn’t have to do all of this for me”. Matt’s family thoroughly enjoyed dancing with the residents too! Matt and Barbara danced to their favourite song.
Thank you to everyone involved for making this special day happen!
National Sausage Roll Day
Today, residents enjoy making their own sausage rolls for their evening meal. Dillwyn especially likes to make and bake food here at Llys! Residents often comment on the homemade food that the residents make, saying how beautiful it tastes and looks.
Everyone enjoys baking and brings back memories for them of what they did for their children and what their parents did for them.
Barchester get moving week
This week we have been exercising daily to join in with Barchester's get Moving!
We have had armchair exercises, balloon tennis, Tai-Chi, walking around our home and parachute games. Residents have thoroughly enjoyed exercise week with smiles for all. Kitty said, “we should do it more often as it’s been a fun week."
Happy 101st birthday Kitty!
Today we celebrated Kitty’s 101st Birthday with a delicious cake and an afternoon tea with family and residents!
Easter Surprise!
Today at Llys-Y-Tywysog we had a surprise visit from the Easter bunny. The Easter bunny went around to visit all the residents to make them smile and deliver an Easter egg. All our residents and staff had a smile on their faces.
Pam laughed and said “ You’re never too old for the Easter Bunny”. It was a great day for all to enjoy and have fun with an Easter egg hunt competition too. The winner with the most eggs got a chocolate egg at the end.
Flower Arranging
Residents take pride in flower arranging and thoroughly enjoy arranging the flowers for our tables in the dining room.
Our resident ambassador, Jen, has said ”Flower arranging is therapeutic and makes a difference to the feel of the room when you walk in and makes dining more pleasurable and calming for all, as the residents always comment on the colours of the flowers”.
Reptile Therapy
Today we had reptile therapy, Gary the turtle, a bearded dragon and three beautiful-looking snakes to hold. Dilwyn said that before he came to Llys-Y-Tywysog that you’d never see him hold a snake. He was petrified.
But these snakes have been coming for a while and now Dilwyn loves to hold them and Dilwyn said he feels calm with them and enjoys their texture and loves their temperament with the residents.
