Activities at Lochduhar Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Lochduhar Care Home

Virtual event with Unity Wines

We had a lovely time joining Hospitality Manager, Christophe Noel and special guests Lee Isaacs DipWSET and Nick Parker from Unity Wines and Spirits – as they introduced us to wine tasting techniques, the history of wine and wine making, as well as consumer attitudes.

Our residents had the opportunity to try a variety of wines from sparkling and white to rose and red, alongside a selection of delicious treats.

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.

World Alzheimer's Day

Today we marked World Alzheimer’s Day, to raise awareness and highlight the challenges that people living with dementia face.

We took part in the Dementia Friends programme, organised by the Alzheimer’s Society to learn more about dementia and the small ways we can help others.

Throughout the day our residents got involved a variety of dementia friendly activities, including baking sessions, themed quizzes and exercise classes.

We also spent time learning facts about the disease, which is affecting many people all over the world.

Drawing Club

Residents at Lochduhar have been busy showing their artistic flair in their still life drawings group. This is a popular group activity and last week they had a good at drawing a bowl of fruit, this week was one of the ornaments. Concentration was good as they focused on their drawings.  Once completed everyone sat back to view their masterpieces and enjoy a cup of tea,

English National Ballet virtual event

We celebrated Last Night of the Proms virtually with members of English National Ballet’s Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Music Director Gavin Sutherland.

We listened and danced along as members of the orchestra took us on a magical, musical journey. English National Ballet Philharmonic is made up of many of the country’s top musicians, and boasts considerable experience in all forms of music-making. With insights and anecdotes into what it takes to conduct an orchestra for a world-class ballet company, this special concert got our feet tapping, arms waving and hearts singing!

It was a wonderful experience, enjoyed by all.

Scottish Designs live event with V&A Dundee

We had a lovely time joining Becca Clark and James Wylie – members of V&A Dundee’s exhibitions team – as they took us on a virtual tour of the museum’s incredible Scottish Design Galleries.

We were introduced to the wide range of unique objects at the galleries from architecture and engineering, jewellery and textiles to theatre and their fascinating stories.

And we were able to learn more about the importance of all objects in telling the rich and varied history of Scottish design.

It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all.
