Activities at The Manor Care Home
Our activities staff are here 7 days a week and are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we care for in a group or individual basis. From trips to garden centres, the theatre, and flower shows to personal shopping and attending family events. We also love organising Christmas fairs, our famous classic car show, musicians, entertainment, and pizza and pint evenings. The team encourage families to visit and work closely with our volunteers to ensure that our residents social care is a priority, so that they have a fun filled and enriched stay whilst here at The Manor.

Life Enrichment Lead
I have been part of The Manor Care Home since 2012, starting as a kitchen assistant, where I helped serve meals and ensure residents had drinks and snacks. While working in the kitchen, I discovered how much I enjoyed spending time with residents and seeing their engagement in activities. This passion led to an opportunity to join the activities team, where I could focus on what I love most - connecting with residents and supporting their wellbeing.
I take great joy in spending time with residents, hearing their stories, and discovering the activities they enjoy. My goal is to keep our residents active, engaged, and happy, with fun and laughter always at the heart of The Manor Care Home.
Celebrating life at The Manor Care Home

Creativity and Kindness Shine at The Manor
Our residents have been embracing their creative sides recently, getting hands-on with some ceramic painting sessions! From delicate floral patterns to bold, colourful designs, everyone showcased their artistic flair, and the results were truly beautiful.
Meanwhile, a few of our talented ladies have been gathering for knitting sessions, crafting cosy blankets to donate to the RSPCA. Their thoughtful work will help keep some furry friends warm this winter, a wonderful act of kindness that’s warming both hearts and paws.
We’re so proud of our residents for their creativity, compassion, and teamwork. A huge thank you to everyone who took part - it’s inspiring to see what we can achieve together!
A Wonderful Finale to Our Summer Steam Train Rides
We wrapped up our summer steam train rides with another successful and memorable journey. The weather was absolutely perfect, allowing everyone to enjoy a beautiful day filled with sunshine and fresh sea air. After the scenic ride, we gathered for a delightful picnic on the beach — a truly relaxing way to soak up the summer vibes.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us on this final summer steam train adventure. Your enthusiasm made the day even more special.
A very special thanks also goes to the incredible volunteers from West Somerset Steam Railway at Bishops Lydeard. Their ongoing support, kindness, and accommodating nature made this experience smooth and enjoyable for all involved. We’re so grateful for their dedication and hard work.
Here’s to more memorable journeys ahead!

A Joyful Journey in Our New Minibus
We’re delighted to share some wonderful news, our brand-new minibus has arrived, and it’s already bringing so much joy!
Our residents recently enjoyed their very first outing in the new bus, travelling in comfort and style to the local garden centre. The journey was filled with smiles, laughter, and excitement, and the destination was just as special. Of course, no trip would be complete without a well-deserved cup of tea and a good chat. The sunshine, fresh air, and warm company made the day truly memorable.
Here’s to many more happy journeys together!
My Day visit
We were so lucky to be joined by the MyDays group.
The weather was so lovely we played connect 4 in the garden. It was a fun and enjoyable morning for us all. Thank you for coming to spend time with us.
Little Acorns Nursery Visit
Residents at Field House enjoyed their visit from Little Acorns Nursery. Residents enjoyed helping the children decorate biscuits which our chef had baked fresh that morning. The children used coloured icing and sprinkles, then the children sang old nursery songs to us all, residents sang along to farmers in the den, Incy Wincy Spider and more. It was a wonderful afternoon for everyone, and we can't wait till next time.
Our residents have invited the children to lunch next time, and we will host a Sports Day afternoon because most of the children will be off to primary school in September, so we wanted to make our last visit extra special.
A taste of home at our cooking club
Today, our Cooking Club brought the warm comforts of home to life with a simple, nostalgic treat—dropped scones! Held in our Memory Lane unit, the session was as much about sharing memories as it was about baking.
There’s something truly special about making food that evokes fond moments from the past. The smell of the batter sizzling on the pan and the sight of golden-brown scones stacked high brought smiles to everyone’s faces.
The scones were a hit—crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and absolutely delicious. It was a joy to watch everyone get involved, from mixing ingredients to flipping the scones just right. And of course, the best part was enjoying the fruits of our labour together!
Cooking Club is more than just preparing food—it’s about connection, conversation, and creating new memories while celebrating the old.
Have a look at some snapshots from the day below—and if you’re nearby, why not join us next time? There’s always a place at the table, and we’d love to share the experience with you.

Celebrating National Burger Day with a BBQ Bash
We came together to celebrate National Burger Day with a sizzling BBQ event. The grill was fired up, and everyone had the chance to get hands-on by building their own custom burgers — choosing from a variety of fresh toppings, sauces, and buns to create their perfect bite.
The atmosphere was full of fun and camaraderie as participants enjoyed crafting their unique burgers and sharing the experience with friends and colleagues. It was more than just a meal; it was a celebration of creativity, community, and great food.
Events like these remind us how food can bring people together, creating memorable moments and tasty traditions. We look forward to many more delicious celebrations ahead!

Macmillan Coffee Morning
We’re delighted to share the success of our recent Macmillan Coffee Morning here at The Manor. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of our residents, their families, and our dedicated staff, the event was a truly heart-warming occasion filled with laughter, conversation, and plenty of cake!
Together, we raised just under £100 in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. Every penny will make a real difference to people living with cancer, and we’re so proud to have contributed to such an important cause.
A very special thank you goes to everyone who played a part.
Local school visit
We have some lovely visitors from The Castle School spend the morning with us and help support our residents with life enrichment.
They helped with a exercise and skittles session up on Willow as well as getting some wise words from our residents. Thank you for helping us out yesterday.
VE Day 80th anniversary celebrations!
We had an amazing day here at the Manor celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE day.
Residents, staff and guests of our home spent the morning enjoying music from our talented singer Ian, and he sang for us at our in-house street party where our amazing chefs put on the most incredible buffet.

Pumpkin Growing at The Manor: From Garden to Halloween Fun
As autumn approaches, the residents at The Manor have been busy in the garden, growing their very own pumpkins — and the results have been fantastic! This hands-on activity has not only brought seasonal excitement to our community but also highlighted the many benefits of growing your own vegetables.
The pumpkins grown by our residents will soon take on two special roles. Some will be transformed into delicious homemade pumpkin pies, while others will be creatively carved into festive decorations just in time for Halloween. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate the season with both tradition and creativity.
Beyond the fun, activities like these serve a deeper purpose. Growing your own vegetables promotes healthy living, encourages sustainable habits, and provides a strong sense of purpose and achievement. For our residents, tending to the pumpkin patch has offered joy, routine, and a chance to connect with nature.
We’re incredibly proud of the care and dedication everyone has shown throughout the growing season. We look forward to sharing the finished pies and Halloween creations with you soon!
Unleashing Creativity: Ceramic Money Box Painting with Our Talented Ladies
Here at the Manor, we’re always looking for ways to encourage creativity, relaxation, and meaningful connection — and our recent ceramic painting activity did just that.
Several of our wonderful ladies have been embracing their artistic flair by hand-painting ceramic money boxes. This simple yet joyful activity provided the perfect opportunity for self-expression, mindfulness, and of course, a bit of fun. Each money box became a blank canvas for imagination, with vibrant colours, intricate patterns, and personal touches transforming them into one-of-a-kind creations.
Not only was this a great way to explore artistic talents, but it also offered a calming, therapeutic experience that everyone could enjoy at their own pace. Whether inspired by nature, memories, or simply a love of bright colours, every design tells a story — and we couldn't be prouder of the stunning results.
Stay tuned — we’ll be showcasing some of the finished masterpieces soon.
All aboard
A bit of heavy rain on Thursday didn't stop us from packing up our picnic to enjoy a lovely trip on the steam train. Amazing hospitality and help from the volunteers at West Somerset Steam Railway - Bishops Lydeard.
See you again in a few weeks when we get to see the flying Scotsman.
National Cheese Day
Molly had been really excited to hear it was National cheese day. She said how she loved trying different cheeses and was really looking forward to having a lovely port and lemon.
We enjoyed a selection of cheeses, fresh bread with lashings of butter and all washed down with a port and lemonade.
We enjoyed doing a cheese quiz and just had a really enjoyable afternoon together.
Trip to the farm
Making the most of the beautiful weather this week, so we went on our travels to find animals and the sea.
We had a great time feeding the animals at Donniford farm and finished the day off with a trip to Minehead to see the sea and have some refreshing ice-cream.
