Activities at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

Cedar Ministry Christmas Visit

Cedar Ministry Christmas Visit

Marriott House and Lodge continues to have monthly visits from Cedar Ministry. These services are always well-attended by residents and visitors.

Cedar Ministry started visiting the home on the first Sunday of every month back in 2012. They are a team from Chichester Baptist Church who visit local care homes in the Chichester area. It is their aim to share God's love and serve people in local care homes.

For more information about Cedar Ministry, please contact Guy Applebee at Chichester Baptist Church on 01243 782585 or via info@chichesterbaptist.org.uk.

Christmas Concert

On Friday 8th December, we were treated to a Christmas concert by a group of students from Chichester University. It was an amazing concert by some very talented individuals. After the performance, the students had made some homemade gingerbread and we all enjoyed afternoon tea together! Intergenerational activities are very important to the residents at Marriott House and Lodge, so we hope these links will continue in the future.

Remembering the Musicals

Old & New Friends Club

After seeing the recent Channel 4 programme, ‘Old People's Home for 4 Year Olds’, we were approached by Parklands School and invited to join with them for intergenerational activities. The programme highlighted the positive effects on the young and old.

Here at Marriott House & Lodge, we think that intergenerational activities are really important, so we join Parklands School in Chichester for our Old & New Friends Club once a week.

On Thursday 2nd November, during our visit to the school, the pupils and residents made friendship bunting, which was displayed in the classroom for all to see.

On Thursday 9th November, the pupils and residents used iPads; the older adults were shown by the children how to use them and the amazing things you can do with this technology.

On Thursday 16th November, the pupils and residents spent time singing together. The session began with the children showing us some of their musical talents, using instruments and their amazing voices. We made a video about the day, which you can watch by clicking here.

On Thursday 23rd November, we made watercolour pictures; these are proudly displayed in the residents' rooms!

On Thursday 30th November, we created Rice Krispie Christmas tree treats and Rudolph punch. These were then enjoyed by all!!

On Thursday 7th December, we were privileged to be able to watch the dress rehearsal of their nativity play! We then enjoyed a jolly Christmas quiz, mince pies, paired with lots of laughter. This was this group's last Old & New Friends Club. We hope that the friendships that have been formed will continue. Although we have said goodbye for now, the children are very excited to have been invited to Marriot House & Lodge to meet Father Christmas.
