Activities at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Fruity Friday - August

On Friday 11th August, Marriott House and Lodge held their monthly fruity Friday-themed day. Staff and residents dress in bright clothing and fruit-themed activities are organised. This month involved making fruit and salad kebabs in the morning, followed by some fruity-themed word games. The afternoon included a tasting session!

The NCS Comes to Marriott

At the beginning of August, we were lucky enough to have a group of young people on the National Citizen Service programme with West Sussex County Council visit the home. Their aim was to bridge the generation gap and they wanted to change perceptions by meeting and chatting with the older generation.

One group joined the residents for a quiz morning on Tuesday 8th August and, after the quiz, spent time interacting with them.

On Thursday 10th August, another group visited the home and used modern technology and traditional games to bridge the generational gap. During the day, the team provided a range of activities for residents, including board games, manicures, arts and crafts and games using an iPad. At the end of the day, they donated the arts and craft supplies and a giant Snakes & Ladders game for use by folks at the home.

The NCS programme is for young people aged 16 and 17, and gives them the opportunity to challenge themselves, develop skills for life and make their mark in the community.

The residents of Marriott House thoroughly enjoyed their visit and look forward to seeing them again in the future.

Book Lovers Day

Book Lovers Day

On Wednesday 9th August, Marriott House and Lodge held a book lovers cream tea afternoon, which involved watching some popular poetry being read via the big screen and a discussion about individuals' favorite books. Cream teas were also served mid-afternoon for all to enjoy!

Wild West Barchy Breakfast

We decided to continue our Wild West theme for the week after this year’s summer fête so that everyone could enjoy the wonderful decorations. With this is mind, we decided that the August Barchy Breakfast would share this theme as well. Staff dressed up for the day and the kitchen whipped up a storm of a breakfast, which included croissants, bacon, sausage baps and much more.

Residents, staff and visitors joined together for breakfast, which was enjoyed by all who attended. This event continues to take place on the first Friday of every month in conjunction with the Professionals' Breakfast Meeting, during which professionals from various organisations, who play a key role in the community, meet for a delicious breakfast. This is also an opportunity to see all that Marriott House and Lodge has to offer.

Helping Hats

Helping Hats

Staff and residents at Marriott House and Lodge have been busy making baby hats for newborn babies at St Richards Hospital.

These are important as newborn babies lose a lot of heat through the top of their heads, so a nice wooly hat will help to keep them warm. These are then given to parents as a keepsake when they take their babies home.

If you would like more information, you can download knitting patterns for various items that local hospitals would be happy to receive by clicking here.

If you would like to help us produce baby hats, you can drop any donations off at Marriott House and Lodge and we will add them to our ever-growing collection!

Birthday Tea Party - July
