Activities at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Celebrating life at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

Book Club at Marriott House & Lodge

Book Club at Marriott House & Lodge

Following requests from residents, we are delighted to announce the launch of two new clubs this February: a weekly Scrabble Club and a fortnightly Book Club. Both initiatives have already proved to be a tremendous success.

The Scrabble Club meets every Tuesday afternoon, providing residents with an enjoyable opportunity to engage in friendly competition while keeping their minds active. The atmosphere has been lively and welcoming, with participants embracing both the social and cognitive benefits of the game.

The new Book Club, held every fortnight, offers residents the chance to explore a variety of titles and share their thoughts in an inclusive and engaging setting. Early sessions have sparked thoughtful discussion and encouraged new connections among participants.

These additions reflect our ongoing commitment to listening to resident feedback and providing meaningful, enriching activities that promote wellbeing and community spirit.

Pancake Day Celebrations

Pancake Day Celebrations

To celebrate Pancake Day, bringing everyone together for an afternoon filled with fun, laughter, and of course – plenty of pancakes!

The celebrations began with a series of lively games and friendly competitions, including pancake flipping challenges that had everyone cheering each other on. The room was filled with excitement as participants tested their skills, showing impressive flips (and a few amusing near-misses!) along the way.

Following the games, everyone had the chance to get creative by adding their own favourite toppings. From classic lemon and sugar to chocolate spread, fresh fruit, syrup, and sprinkles, there was something to suit every taste. The highlight of the event was tasting our delicious creations and sharing our favourites with friends.

Pancake Day provided a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together, enjoy some light-hearted fun, and celebrate a much-loved tradition. It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces and such enthusiastic participation.

We would like to thank everyone who helped organise the event and all those who took part in making it such a memorable occasion.

Local Professionals attended Networking Breakfast

Local Professionals attended Networking Breakfast

Marriott House & Lodge Care Home, located in the heart of Chichester, recently welcomed local professionals to their quarterly Breakfast Meeting.
Held on Thursday, 6th November, the event brought together professionals from a range of local organisations to enjoy a relaxed morning of networking over breakfast provided by the home. Guests also had the opportunity to take a tour of the home and ask questions about the care services available.

Terry Blackshaw-May, General Manager at Marriott House & Lodge, said:
“Marriott House & Lodge is keen to be part of the community, and our professional breakfast allows individuals from different industries to meet and connect with one another. It’s a great chance to share experiences, make new contacts within the community, and of course, enjoy our wonderful spread provided by our hospitality team!”

Supporting Residents Through Culture, Choice and Familiar Comforts

Supporting Residents Through Culture, Choice and Familiar Comforts

At Marriott House and Lodge, providing truly person-centred care means understanding what matters most to the people who live with us. We take time to learn about each resident’s background, culture, preferences and daily routines so we can support them in ways that feel familiar, comforting and meaningful.

For one of our residents, Frank, who is originally from China, familiar food plays an important role in maintaining that connection to home. To support this, our team arranged a takeaway from China Royale Chinese, ensuring Frank could enjoy the authentic flavours and dishes he knows and loves.

For many residents, food is far more than just a meal. It can represent memories, culture, and a sense of identity. By making sure Frank could enjoy cuisine that reflects his heritage, we were able to provide comfort, spark conversation and create a moment that felt both familiar and reassuring.

Moments like this are part of our everyday approach to care. We are committed to recognising and celebrating the diverse cultures of our residents, while always respecting their personal wishes and choices.

By going the extra mile to support individual preferences and cultural connections, we help ensure every resident feels understood, respected and truly at home.

Sunday Service at Marriott House & Lodge

Sunday Service at Marriott House & Lodge

We are incredibly grateful to our wonderful volunteer Jean and to Father Richard for the kindness, faith, and comfort they bring into our home.
Jean not only lovingly leads our weekly Sunday services for our residents, but also offers ongoing emotional support and a listening ear to our staff, reminding us all that we are cared for and valued.
Father Richard visits each month to share Holy Communion, creating deeply meaningful moments of peace and reflection. These special times are treasured by everyone in our home and are always so well attended.

What an amazing day learning about Shippam’s paste!

What an amazing day learning about Shippam’s paste!

A once-thriving factory in the heart of Chichester has now become a beautiful exhibition.
Shippam’s was a huge part of the city’s history so many people living in and around Chichester worked at the factory, and it played a major role in the local community. Many of the residents grew up eating Shipham’s paste and shared such fond memories of both the products and the factory itself.
We were also delighted to have the The Novium Museum visit us and give a fascinating talk about Shippam’s. Residents really enjoyed learning more about its history and hearing stories connected to the factory.
Congratulations to Elaine on 15 Years of Service!

Congratulations to Elaine on 15 Years of Service!

We celebrated a very special milestone — Elaine’s 15 years of incredible dedication and care here at the home.
Elaine truly does a bit of everything — from helping with activities to lending a hand wherever she’s needed. Her warmth, energy, and commitment make such a difference every single day. Over the years, she’s built wonderful connections with so many of our residents, and her friendly smile brightens every room she walks into.
Thank you, Elaine, for all your hard work, kindness, and devotion over the years. We’re so lucky to have you as part of our family!
Chinese New Year Celebrations

Chinese New Year Celebrations

We proudly celebrated Chinese New Year with a vibrant and memorable event that brought together residents, relatives and friends.

The celebration was marked by an impressive spread of authentic and delicious Chinese dishes, symbolising prosperity, happiness, and good fortune for the year ahead. Residents and staff enjoyed a variety of traditional favorites, each carefully prepared to honor the rich culinary heritage associated with the Lunar New Year.

Beyond the feast, attendees had the opportunity to explore the fascinating history and cultural significance behind Chinese New Year. Through engaging discussions and shared stories, we learned about longstanding customs such as the reunion dinner, the symbolism of the zodiac animals, the meaning behind red decorations, and the importance of family during this special time of year.

The event was not only a celebration of the new year but also a meaningful opportunity to deepen cultural understanding and appreciation. By combining food, history, and shared experiences, the occasion highlighted the values of unity, respect, and community that are central to the spirit of Chinese New Year.

Silver Surfers in Action!

Silver Surfers in Action!

We believe technology should bring people closer, not leave anyone behind.  That’s why we love helping our residents build confidence with iPads, smartphones, and staying connected to the world around them.
Meet Mary, who’s enjoying a one-to-one iPad lesson with our amazing receptionist Clara From video calls with loved ones to exploring new interests online, it’s all about learning at her own pace and having fun along the way.
A huge thank you to Clara for her patience, kindness, and encouragement — moments like these make all the difference.
It’s never too late to learn something new!
