Activities at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Life at Marriott House and Lodge Care Home

St David's Day Celebrations

St David's Day Celebrations

Our home was awash with daffodils and Welsh flags to celebrate St Davids day.

The activities team helped residents to decorate the home in the days leading up to St Davids Day. Decorations were handmade, daffodils were arranged and the home had a very Welsh feel about it on the day.

Residents enjoyed a Welsh reminiscence session, which included facts, music and much more. There was also a themed quiz with prizes to be won.

Activities Assistant, Hilda Goodeve, made some delicious Welsh cakes using a traditional family recipe. These were enjoyed with afternoon tea by many residents, staff and visitors.

Bookworms

Bookworms

Bookshelves are bulging as residents have been keen to get involved in World Book Day by holding a book discussion.

In the lead up to World Book Day, Activities Coordinator, Amy Hayler, found out the most popular authors and novels from the residents at the home. These discussions highlighted that the three most popular books were Alice in Wonderland, Oliver Twist and To Kill a Mockingbird. During the afternoon, Amy read the first Chapter of each book and discussed each one individually with residents. This group now intend to meet each week to finish the books and discuss them further.

Flower Arranging

Flower Arranging

One of the regular activities that is enjoyed by residents of Marriott House and Lodge is arranging vases of flowers to put on show around the home.

Variety Hour

Variety Hour

These Variety Hour sessions include music, poetry, dance and movement. They provide non-obvious exercises (seated or unseated) using current affairs, literature and iPads to engage residents and stimulate memories, discussions and fun. February's session took place on the Thursday 16th.

February's Birthday Tea

February's Birthday Tea

February's birthday tea was held on Friday 17th. Residents and visitors were entertained by Mitchell Armstrong before special refreshments were served to celebrate all residents' birthdays during the month.

National Bird Box Week

National Bird Box Week

Residents of Marriott House and Lodge love watching the birds in the garden. We were keen to participate in National Bird Box Week (14th - 21st February), so we decided to make sure that the bird boxes and tables were ready in the garden for the birds to nest in. Within the home, residents were assisted by the activities team to make fat balls and other things that can go into the garden to feed the birds.
