Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Activities Lead
Hello, My name is Anne and I am the Activities Lead here at Melbourn Springs.
I have a passion for elderly care, ensuring that all residents feel included and valued. Here at Melbourn Springs we strive to ensure our residents are always smiling, laughing and engaged in a wide variety of activities. I organise regular outdoor trips with our minibus, and we also have a variety of entertainers that visit our Home.
I always feel that the residents' input into our weekly planner is important as it gives all residents equal opportunity to explore new interests as well as keeping up with previous passions and hobbies.
Celebrating life at Melbourn Springs Care Home
Scouts visit
We recently enjoyed a visit from the 1st Royston beaver scouts. They came along to help with their disability awareness badge. They were shown the assisted bathrooms & the chair lift to get our residents safely in and out of the baths. They also planted sunflower seeds & made cut out flowers for our residents.
We rewarded them with juice & biscuits, which they were very grateful for. We absolutely loved having them here for a visit. Thank you to Mel & your team. We look forward to another visit real soon.
Valentine's Day
We enjoyed a truly fantastic Valentine’s Day celebration at Melbourn Springs. Residents were treated to a delightful afternoon tea, along with chocolates and beautiful roses for everyone, creating a wonderful atmosphere filled with smiles and conversation.
The day was made even more special by a surprise visit from a very special Valentine’s heart, spreading joy and laughter throughout the home. It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate love, friendship and togetherness, and a day that was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Also a big thank you to all that were involved in making sure it was an extra special day for our beloved residents.
Owl experience
We were kindly invited to Hilton Park for the Owl experience. The owls were beautiful and the Handler was very Knowledgeable.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Whaddon Village Hall Visit
Residents at Melbourn Springs visited Whaddon Village Hall and mingled with the locals over afternoon tea.
Melbourn Springs Joins Remembrance Sunday Parade in Melbourn Village
Residents and team members from Melbourn Springs Care Home were honoured to take part in the Remembrance Sunday Parade through Melbourn Village.
It was a wonderful turnout from the local community, with a moving service that brought people together to pay their respects. Watching the wreaths being laid was a particularly touching moment, reminding everyone of the sacrifices made and the importance of remembrance.
Acting Home Manager Vimu said, “We were privileged to be part of such a meaningful occasion. It was heartwarming to see so many people come together to honour and remember.”
Melbourn Springs would like to thank everyone involved in organising and participating in the parade and service.
Mothers day at Melbourn springs
Happy Mother’s Day. We had a lovely afternoon here at Melbourn Springs, enjoying a lovely afternoon tea with freshly baked scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream, sausage rolls, and an assortment of tasty sandwiches, along with Baileys, sherry, tea and coffee. The ladies were also given some flowers as a little treat.
It was a great atmosphere with plenty of socialising, laughing & singing.
Safari Stu Experience
What a great time we had being entertained by Safari Stu's Amazing Reptiles. Residents and staff got up close and some overcoming lifelong fears of hairy 8-legged creatures and big long-slithering snakes. Such a great experience. Thank you, Stu & friends, look forward to seeing you all again soon.
Alladin performance
A big thank you to Andy from Newlings undertakers & the brilliant cast of Alladin. We were invited along to see the final rehearsal at Orwell Village Hall. I would recommend you go along if you get the chance. What an amazing performance. We laughed and had a fantastic time. Oh yes, we did!
Already looking forward to seeing them in Jack and the beanstalk next year.
Remembrance Sunday
Sue Fender kindly attended Melbourn Springs this morning to hold a heartfelt Remembrance Service to honour and remember the brave men and women who served and sacrificed for our freedom. Residents, staff, and friends came together, said prayers and sang Hymns and to reflect, share memories, and observe the 2 minute silence, paying tribute to those who will never be forgotten. Thank you to all who attended..
Macmillan Bake Off Brings Sweet Smiles to Melbourn Springs
We were delighted to host a joyful Macmillan Bake Off at Melbourn Springs Care Home, raising over £40 in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Residents, staff, and guests joined in the celebration, enjoying a delicious array of homemade cakes and bakes. The event was judged by Reverend Andrew Birks of All Saints Church, Melbourn and Meldreth, who kindly joined us for the occasion—alongside his much-loved dog, Hilda, who was a star guest and brought smiles to everyone she met.
The winning bake was a beautifully light cloud cake created by 13-year-old Phoebe Rogers, which Reverend Birks described as “reminiscent of a New York cheesecake.” Her creativity and baking skills truly impressed everyone.
Vimu, Acting General Manager at Melbourn Springs, shared:
“It was a fantastic afternoon filled with creativity, laughter, and community spirit. We’re so proud of everyone who took part and grateful to Reverend Birks for his support. Events like this bring people together and show how even small gestures—like baking a cake—can make a big difference.”
Residents enjoyed sampling the entries, sharing stories, and spending time with visitors over tea and cake. The Bake Off is part of our ongoing commitment to hosting events that enrich lives and support meaningful causes.
Charlie the therapy pony
Our residents here at Melbourn Springs were thrilled to welcome a very special little visitor—Charlie the therapy pony—who brought joy, laughter, and plenty of cuddles to our residents. The little fella was so good we will definitely be having him back for another visit real soon.
Please can you remove our photos each month and replace with the new ones.
King's ride outing
We pulled on our wellies & went for another great visit to John & Wendy Jenkins Kings Ride stables to see the beautiful horses. They greeted us with open arms as we walked around the stables and were also lucky enough to see a few being exercised. Enid & Joy were like Horse Whisperers as they chatted away with the 4-legged Beauties.
Luckily, the rain held off long enough for us all to enjoy the experience. Thank you, John & Wendy for making us feel so welcome. We look forward to seeing you both again soon.
Jamaican Day
Today we proudly celebrated Jamaican Day, and what a wonderful day it was!
A huge thank you to our amazing Opal, who truly made this day special. Opal volunteered her time and spent hours cooking delicious Jamaican food together with our new second chef, Abnel. The menu, lovingly prepared by Opal, included battered chicken, fried plantains, brown stew chicken, Jamaican rice with beans, Rasta pasta, and a delightful coconut and pineapple mousse. Everyone enjoyed a true taste of Jamaica!
Opal, we love you and truly appreciate your hard work, dedication, and support. Thank you for sharing your culture and passion with us.
We would also like to say a big thank you to our Head of Housekeeping, Alison, who came in very early this morning to decorate the home. The decorations looked fantastic and really brought the celebration to life.
In the afternoon, we enjoyed a lovely and informative talk about Jamaica and its culture, delivered by Anne, and, of course, no Jamaican Day would be complete without listening to some great Jamaican music!
Thank you to everyone who helped make this day so memorable.

We were delighted to welcome the Melbourn and Meldreth Church Choir to Melbourn Springs Care Home for a joyful Harvest Festival celebration.
The choir’s uplifting performance filled our home with warmth and harmony, featuring traditional hymns and seasonal songs that stirred fond memories and brought smiles to many faces. Residents joined in with singing, shared stories of past harvests, and enjoyed the sense of togetherness that the event inspired.
Vimu, Acting General Manager at Melbourn Springs, shared:
