Activities at Melbourn Springs Care Home

Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is a major focus of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat will always be welcomed.

Betty wins National Poem Competition

Our community friend of Melbourn Springs, Elizabeth Murphy (‘Betty’) wrote ‘Isolation Musings’ for the pleasure of our residents and had us all in fits of laughter! Betty has been writing poems for many years but never had one published. However, this is now about to change!

With Betty’s authorization, our Home Services Advisor Dan put the poem forward for national recognition in a Poems in a Pandemic competition – supported by Care Talk.

Poems in a Pandemic was a national poetry and art competition for frontline social care support staff, leaders, nurses and community friends to capture their thoughts, feelings and experiences throughout the pandemic.

Betty’s poem has beat 300 other entries to win the Humour category and her poem is going to be published in a book with all proceeds going to supporting the mental health of care workers through art projects.

Betty has even ventured into the virtual world for the first time to give a live reading of ‘Isolation Musings’ on the competition live final via Zoom.

To donate to fund the publishing of the top 100 poems from frontline staff, with all profits going towards supporting mental wellbeing, please visit: https://t.co/FY3OLtorhe

Well done Betty!!! We are all very proud of you at Melbourn Springs and thank you for being such an amazing friend of our home.

Thank you Melbourn Primary School!

As the Sunflower Competition alongside Melbourn Primary School drew to a close it was impossible to pick a winner! Instead, our residents wanted to donate their Sunflowers to the flowerbeds at the school so that the children could enjoy them too.

Deputy Headteacher Tiff gratefully accepted them and our residents’ card to say thank you for enabling them to be a part of the competition. Thank you very much Melbourn Primary School - we look forward to many more collaborative projects together soon!
