Activities at Moors Manor Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Jo Henderson

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Jo Henderson and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Moors Manor.

I am looking forward to bringing my creative side to the home as I was previously a florist and baker and look forward to us making lots of lovely treats for us all to enjoy.

When at home Jo is a mother to two wonderful daughters and also a pet mum to labrador Marley.

I cannot wait to welcome our residents into their wonderful new home and help to bring smiles, joy and laughter to each day.

Baking Club for Fireworks night

You will have seen the photos from our Fireworks night, but before the fireworks went off residents were busy making chocolate apples with sprinkles for everyone to enjoy. Residents had fun making these and were able to eat them later that evening.

Fireworks Night at Moors Manor

We held our fireworks night in the home and what a lovely evening it was. We had residents, their families and members of the community all come along to watch the wonderful display. The kitchen team all worked hard to provide the marvellous chilli and hot dogs which everyone enjoyed. Here are just a few of the photos but we will need to see if we can go even bigger for next year!

Minibus outing to Stewarts Garden Centre

We decided to go to Stewarts Garde Centre in Wimborne to see the marvellous Christmas displays they had in the store. Betty, Eileen, Liz and Sheila had a wonderful afternoon looking at everything and Eileen decided to bring a little robin back with her as well. We finished off the outing with what we always do best having a cup of tea and cake.

We got lots of ideas for our own decorations here in the home and look forward to putting them up in a few weeks’ time.

Festival Of Remembrance Concert

Residents Henry, Jenny, June and Rita had the pleasure to attend the Christchurch British Legion Festival of Remembrance Concert performed by The Band of the Royal British Legion Christchurch at Christchurch Priory. What made this more special for the residents was that our Home Services Advisor Laura was in the band so they were treated to the VIP treatment with seats right at the front to get the best view.

What a wonderful evening it was for everyone as they got to listen to a selection of music from Military Marches, Glen Miller, Classical and Film. Residents were able to take part in the Act of Remembrance where they had local Standard Bearers and listened to the Last Post being played by the solo trumpeter. For the finale residents then were entertained with the Ringwood Pipe Band joining the band for the final few pieces which nearly raised the roof off the church!!

A fantastic evening and was enjoyed by everyone in the audience.

Minibus outing to Haskins

This week's minibus outing took our ladies Jean, Jenny, Lynda and Olive to Haskins as it was such a big hit last week we wanted to take more of our residents to see the beautiful displays they had. As always we made time for a cup of tea and cake to rest our legs after having a good walk around the home. Residents all shared their favourite colour schemes when decorating the tree and the popular choice was the classic red and gold.

Baking Club

This week’s baking club had residents making savoury and sweet treats. The savoury option was the cheese twists and sweet option was a jam tart. Both of these had residents rolling out the puff pastry and adding the filling of choice. Later in the day residents then got to enjoy their delicious snacks with a cup of tea mid-afternoon.
