Activities at Moreton Hill Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Olympics
The weather didn’t show up on the day but nevertheless this didn’t deter staff and residents holding their own Olympic Games. There was a race for everyone and plenty of medals to be won. From javelin throwing to bean bag tossing, wheelchair sprints, hand relays and egg and spoon everyone had a go and entered into the spirit of the games. Chef Stuart and his team certainly deserved a gold medal for cooking up a delicious BBQ followed by a scrumptious selection of puddings that kept everyone’s energy up.

A wish come true
It all started with a conversation about a painting in Geraint’s room of a lavender field. Geraint told Nurse Princess that the painting had been done by his wife and that he had never had the chance to visit the nearby lavender fields. It just so happened that the previous weekend on her day off, Princess had visited Snowshill Lavender Gardens near Broadway. After making a plan with the Activity Team and waiting for a beautiful sunny day, Geraint went on his dream visit to Snowshill. The lavender was in full bloom. Two days later the gardens were closed for the lavender harvest to take place. It was a wonderful day out and we were all delighted that we were able to make a wish come true for Geraint.

Lunchtime Visitors
We love getting involved with our local schools and over the years have established excellent connections with ones in our area.
To mark the end of term, 30 pupils from Cashes Green School in Stroud walked over the hills from their classrooms to have lunch with our residents. There was plenty of chat, fun and laughter as the residents and children swapped stories. After lunch the children were able to play in our garden before we all had a sing-along and it was time for them to climb back over the hills to school. We look forward to seeing all the pupils and staff when they return from their holidays in September.

Willow Trust Boat Trip
The sun shone and the temperatures rose as we set sail on our annual trip on the fabulous Willow Trust canal boat. Starting at Saul Junction the canal runs alongside the River Severn down to the Bristol Channel. We stopped for lunch at Purton, sat in the shade and watched the world go by. It was a really wonderful day out and we are very grateful to the Willow Trust Charity for taking us.

Anyone for Tennis?
This year we decided to hold our own Wimbledon. Our Maintenance team set up the net and marked out the court. Staff and residents played and spectated on an afternoon of very high standard tennis. Who knew we had such skilled players in our midst? There was stiff competition for the trophy but in the final it was Geraint who came out as the champion and a worthy winner. When the tennis finished, Chef Stuart, served delicious bowls of strawberries and cream and much needed glasses of Pimms to cool everyone down.

Tour de Barchester
We were lucky enough to be on-route for the Tour de Barchester ride that took place to raise money for the Barchester Charitable Foundation. The cyclists courageously rode up the hill to our home to be greeted by our residents and staff waving flags. Residents had been busy making fruit kebabs and other treats in the morning to give to the riders. They certainly deserved the refreshments after cycling all the way from another Barchester home, Badgeworth Court in Cheltenham on what turned out to be a very hot day.
