Activities at Mount Vale Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from PAT dogs, entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Louise Chapman

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Louise I have been working at Mount Vale since 2010. I am the activities co-ordinator, I am here to promote the wellbeing of our residents and ensure they have a variety of activities to get involved in. I love finding new creative ways to engage our residents and involve our local community.

I am a dementia champion for the home and enjoy continuing to learn and find more things I can do to help promote the wellbeing of our residents.

I love spending time with each individual getting to know them so I can add individual needs into our plans. I love building strong relationships with our residents and families.

I am a crafty person and can be found doing diamond arts and lots of other creative things when I am not at work. I love spending time with my family and going for walks with my dog Dottie and cuddling my cat Loki.

Our fireworks extravaganza went with a bang.. literally!

We have to say a big thank you to our manager Helen Lewis’s husband, Andrew for coming in and putting on such a great show for our Residents, friends and family.

We had fireworks on both sides of our gardens so everyone could come to windows and see the display. Dana our chef made hot dogs filled potato skins, soup and some fabulous bonfire cakes.

It was a wonderful display and everyone enjoyed the evening.

Fun, Simple Workouts

Moving, stretching, bending and laughter! It’s amazing what a great workout you can have by simply throwing a ball! Our life enrichment daily schedule creates fun and laughter just by incorporating ball games into the day. Movement can be quite difficult for certain residents, we take for granted the simple movement of getting up from a chair or walking to make a coffee. Without thinking we are moving and using our muscles, for some this just isn’t possible easily. By having a ball placed in front of you, without thinking often you kick or knock it away, this is simple movement, but so important. We miss, we giggle, we pass it on, we giggle. Something so simple as a ball is amazing for dexterity, our brains, and well-being and by that I mean laughter. Laughing is the best medicine ever!

Resident realises dream

Residents and guests at Mount Vale Care Home in Northallerton enjoyed an musical performance afternoon that took place at the home. The Northallerton Male Voice Choir performed a medley of music that they regularly perform in the local community.

The reason for the performance was to make Barbara, one of our residents wishes come true, by bringing the Northallerton Male Voice Choir especially to her. Barbara’s husband Paddy is an active member of the choir and Barbara spent many years supporting the choir when she still lived at home. He wanted to create a special occasion in recognition for her support to the choir

Pet therapy

We have Aquatic Finatic Pet Therapy here at Mount Vale have been in the Garden while the weather has been nice. They bring all sorts of pets from Snakes, Hedgehogs, Rats and even Chickens.

Our Residents are able to interact as much or as little as they choose, not only getting to hold and look at the animals but also find out interesting facts about them. Aquatic Finatic visit us every few

months and always bring new and interesting pets for us to look at  and pet.

Singing through the 50s

We had another fabulous show from Cat’s Pyjamas Productions. We had songs from the ages starting at the 50’s through to the 70’s and outfits to match!
Residents were all singing along while reminiscing about where they were along the years.

We all had a wonderful afternoon. Carol and other Entertainers come several times a month running alongside our  Daily Activities schedule.
