Activities at Mount Vale Care Home

Our specialist activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from PAT dogs, entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join with activities and events as often as they can.

Louise Chapman

Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Louise I have been working at Mount Vale since 2010. I am the activities co-ordinator, I am here to promote the wellbeing of our residents and ensure they have a variety of activities to get involved in. I love finding new creative ways to engage our residents and involve our local community.

I am a dementia champion for the home and enjoy continuing to learn and find more things I can do to help promote the wellbeing of our residents.

I love spending time with each individual getting to know them so I can add individual needs into our plans. I love building strong relationships with our residents and families.

I am a crafty person and can be found doing diamond arts and lots of other creative things when I am not at work. I love spending time with my family and going for walks with my dog Dottie and cuddling my cat Loki.

Life at Mount Vale Care Home

Virtual event with Dr Tim Howard

Residents across our homes had a lovely time joining Dr Tim Howard, 4th generation GP, whose whole life has been about patient care, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his novel ‘Let’s Kill All The Lawyers’.

The novel is a medical fiction thriller that explores the impact of life and death events, mistakes and forgiveness, and the impact of law and justice on the day- to-day lives of ordinary people doing their best in difficult circumstances.

Residents had the chance to ask their own questions once the discussion was over and a great time was had by all.

Chocolate treats

Our lovely nurse Liza enjoyed making ‘Chocolate Cringles’, a traditional sweet treat from the Philippines with our Residents. Not only did everyone enjoyed making them, they tasted great!

Reminiscing plays an integral role in our memory Lane community, so chatting about favourite things that remind you of home and younger years provoke such conversation and so many happy memories.

As you can see Mandy was giggling all the way through and Margaret was very focused on making them nice and round. It was a lovely afternoon.

Just passing through

Residents across our services had a lovely time joining Daniel Snowman, for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘Just Passing Through’.

Author of over a dozen books, Daniel Snowman’s long and active life has led him to interact in countless ways with the wider world and with some of its most famous inhabitants. His memoir evokes these experiences via a series of vivid literary vignettes.

Residents across the homes found the talk very intriguing and informative, and were happy to learn more about Daniel’s experiences around the world.  Book club corner is part of our varied life enrichment programme.  A great time was had by all.

Come sing!

We had a fantastic time with vocal coach Mark De-Lisser as he led an amazing virtual singing session for our residents to enjoy.

Our residents were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I’m a Believer’ by The Monkees.

There were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.

Rosedene Nursery

Thank you so much to Rosedene nursery for bringing us some lovely cupcakes for us all to enjoy. We had a wonderful afternoon in the sunshine  eating cake a chatting with the little ones, and even a little sing song. Bambi was mooching around as usual looking for cake and getting lots of cuddles from the little ones. Everyone had a lovely afternoon. Our resident look forward to the children visiting.

Flower arranging

Our lovely Residents enjoyed sitting in the sunshine flower arranging.  We bought some fresh flowers, picked some flowers from our garden and to make the arrangements more sensory we added fresh rosemary, mint and oregano we picked from our herb beds.

We did small vases and pots so we were able to take them to all our lovely ladies rooms for them to enjoy.  They smelt beautiful!
