Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home
The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.
Zoe Giles
Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.
I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!
I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Staff, residents and guests commemorated this special occasion with live music from popular local entertainer, John Kellow, a visit from York Mayor and even some special guests – reindeers - put in a special appearance to start the homes countdown to Christmas.
WW2 Veteran visits Mulberry Court
A world war 2 war veteran, Ken Cook has visited Barchester’s Mulberry Court, in Rawcliffe, York to host an informative talk on his experiences in the service and catch up with old friends.
Ken Cook joined residents of the home for lunch before hosting a special talk on his memoirs on Tuesday 19th November. Celebrations included a special lunch especially prepared by the home’s hospitality team with friend, John Benson. The friends spent time sharing memories of former colleagues and friends and their time in service.
Walk through a landscape
Residents across our services had a lovely time joining Emily and Marie-Therese from the Wallace Collection, for a virtual introduction to Reubens' Rainbow Landscape.
Residents truly enjoyed the sensory walk through one of the museum’s most famous landscape paintings.
Everyone who joined had a wonderful experience and can’t wait to put their creative skills to the test by painting some landscapes of our their in the coming days!
Enjoying a pint at the local pub
Here at Mulberry Court we know moving to a new home can be a little daunting and overwhelming, we support our residents in making new friends and so what better way on a damp and cool autumn day than to visit our local pub for a refreshing drink for a pint.
We were joined by several of our gentlemen and on arrival one of residents was already there with family so it was a case of more the merrier, conversations flowing and new friendships formed.
Home celebrate 20-year 'Long Service Award'
A senior carer at Mulberry Court in York has received a prestigious 20 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for twenty years.
Millie Borbajo, now a senior carer started at Barchester in October 2004 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.
Residents enjoy trip to local garden centre
Residents at Mulberry Court recently visited their local garden centre in Skelton near York to look at the Halloween displays and to get inspiration for their own. Our residents were beaming with joy, taking in every breath-taking moment as they explored the vast selection of decorations.
Residents spent the journey reminiscing of their own childhoods, trick and treating with their children and how celebrating the annual tradition had evolved over the years. Residents were able to browse the various plants and shrubs on display before admiring the magnificent spooktacular Halloween displays and enjoying refreshments in their café before heading back to the home.
