Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I  started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.

I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!

I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Mother of the bride

Wedding bells were the order of the day here at Mulberry Court care home on Friday 6th September as one of our lovely resident’s Ann became mother of the bride!! Unfortunately Ann could not attend in person however we still wanted to mark the occasion and make it as memorable as possible for her, so a special afternoon tea with bucks fizz was laid out for both Ann and her guest to enjoy while watching the live stream of the wedding in the privacy and quiet of her room.

Diggin Den Visits

This afternoon we welcomed the animals and their owners from Diggin Den to our home,  the weather held so we all made our way out into our beautiful garden, where not only resident’s but their family and friends gathered too to be entertained by all the rabbits and guinea pigs.

It was lovely to see the contentment on everyone’s faces as the animals interacted with residents and their calming ways

Animals have such a positive therapeutic influence and are excellent for promoting positive mental health and well-being, we look forward to welcoming them back at some point in the future.

Mobile Organ Visits Mulberry Court

We recently invited back the mobile fairground organ belonging to J.Rymer to entertain our resident’s their family and friend’s once more with its unique sound.

The day itself was dry so our residents wrapped up in blankets and headed outside into our award winning garden where an afternoon tea had been prepared, a selection of cakes and biscuits were enjoyed throughout the afternoon while listening to such songs as “Over the rainbow” before finishing off the entertainment with the national anthem.

Tool box Productions

This afternoon we welcomed “Tool box “ productions into our home, they usually work with young adults with learning disabilities however are looking to expand and diverse into the care home sector, so reached out to us.

They will be here over the next  three weeks with a different theme each week.

Was so nice to be able to get out into the garden and interact with Meg as she kept us all entertained with various, colourful props.

Thank you Meg for this week we look forward to seeing you next week.

Resident realises dream to attend wedding

Resident, Rachael at Mulberry Court had always wanted to attend her sister, Bridget’s wedding so staff at the home made her wish a reality proving anything is possible.

Rachael has lived at Mulberry Court for several years and is beloved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making her dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to her and her family and friends and they all wanted to be there to see the smile on Rachael’s face when her dream was realised.

Homes come together for 'Big Quiz'

Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide linked together for a fantastic quiz in celebration of Barchester’s 100th live virtual event.

Residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.

Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.
