Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home
The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.
Zoe Giles
Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.
I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!
I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home
RSPB Bird Watch
Residents showed their superior knowledge of birds to the staff at Mulberry Court during our Big Bird Watch afternoon inspired by the RSPB. We had a pretty tricky bird quiz but it proved no problem to some of our bird experts in the group! We filled up our new bird feeders with an array of different bird treats in the hope of encouraging some new feathered friends in our beautiful gardens.
Burns night supper
Residents enjoyed a traditional Burns lunch with Haggies, tatties and neeps brought in with the sound of bagpipes and the ‘Address to a Haggis’ recited by our Scottish carer Linda. A great afternoon of history of the late Robbie Burns and a showing of The Edinburgh Tattoo finished off a lovely afternoon all washed down with a tot of whiskey and shortbread.
Watercolour painting
Residents enjoyed an afternoon drawing and painting. With a very wet drizzly day outside it was a lovely way to brighten up a cold grey January afternoon with some lovely results.
Flower power
Residents at Mulberry Court Care Home in York celebrated International Flower Day which took place on 19th January.
International Flower Day promotes the psychological boost that flowers can give to people. From growing and nurturing plants and flowers, to gifting flowers to show love and appreciation, and sometimes just the simple act of admiring their beauty – flowers have the power to make someone’s day.
Residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day including ‘Name the flower quiz’, reminiscing about their gardens and discussions about the bulbs they have planted in our home’s garden due to flower in spring along with a virtual tour of some famous flower gardens which everyone really enjoyed. Their collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.
'Blooming' wonderful afternoon
Residents are keen to re-start their popular flower arranging club after the exhausting Christmas festivities. Everyone created lovely arrangements to enjoy back in their rooms and talked about their favourite flowers and why, it was a ‘blooming’ afternoon.
Christmas party
Residents and staff got together for a traditional Christmas Party with crackers and Santa hats all round. We had a lovely afternoon singing along karaoke style and reminiscing about Christmas’s gone by with loved ones.
