Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

V&A Dundee exhibition tour with V&A

We had a lovely time joining Becca Clark and James Wylie – members of V&A Dundee’s exhibitions team – as they took us on a virtual tour of the museum’s incredible Scottish Design Galleries.

We were introduced to the wide range of unique objects at the galleries from architecture and engineering, jewellery and textiles to theatre and their fascinating stories.

And we were able to learn more about the importance of all objects in telling the rich and varied history of Scottish design.

It was a lovely talk, enjoyed by all.

Senior carer celebrates 15-years service

A carer at Mulberry Court in York has received a prestigious 15 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 15 years.

Kirsty Green, now a Senior Carer, started at Barchester in August 2006 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years.

Jane McFarlane, Employee Services Director at Barchester said: “I’m always pleased to hear stories about the long service of Barchester staff and am delighted Kirsty has achieved this milestone. It is dedication like this that ensures our residents are provided with a happy place to live.”

Ebor festival at York

Residents at Mulberry Court had another day at the races by popular demand! A little friendly flutter on the horses just for fun and everyone wore hats even the gents on Ladies Day! A great afternoon of fun and reminiscing about the tradition of York races for our residents who have grown up enjoying York races and holds a great affection to many of them.  A little fizz, and strawberries and cream it was “like we were there again” said one of our residents.

Residents enjoy afternoon cream tea

Residents of Mulberry Court lovely their afternoon cream tea socials, residents enjoy beautiful mouth-watering freshly baked scones with a refreshing pot of Yorkshire tea served in the homes bistro area.  Conversations flow as residents share stories of their favourite locations where they have enjoyed an afternoon tea including the million dollar question, jam or cream first!

A whale of a time!

We took a wonderful virtual trip to Iceland and visited the SEA LIFE Trust Beluga Whale Sanctuary to have an inside look into the daily care of their two resident beluga whales: Little White and Little Grey.

Our residents were introduced to the history of the Beluga Whale Sanctuary and learnt more about its mission to provide a more natural home for belugas in human care with a first-hand look at how the dedicated team are not only caring for the whales, but preparing for their future in the sea sanctuary!

It was an enjoyable event for everyone, learning more about the amazing beluga whales and how they are cared for at the sanctuary.
