Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home

The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Cheese and wine afternoon

Residents enjoyed a Cheese & Wine afternoon as we welcomed some new residents it was a chance for people to get to know each other.  New friendships were formed as old ones flourish and a glass of wine with a sample of Blue Stilton created the perfect setting.  With a Michael Ball concert on our big screen by request of our residents a lovely afternoon was had by all.

Home celebrate International Youth Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Mulberry Court care home in York were treated to a unique performance from English National Ballet to celebrate International Youth Day on August 12.

Prior to the day itself, members of English National Ballet’s youth dance company, ENBYouthCo, and their Creative Director, Richard Bermange, asked residents to submit their memories of going to see films over the years.  The cast then used these evocative descriptions, along with Arielle Smith’s digital production of Jolly Folly, as inspiration for their performance.

International Cat Day

Residents at Mulberry Court had a lovely day as one of the homes Senior Carers, Angela brought in her gorgeous cat ‘Jasper’. As the home celebrated International Cat Day.

Jasper has been a regular visitor to the home over the years and is loved by everyone.  It’s been a while since Angela could bring him in so International Cat Day gave the perfect opportunity for a visit.  Jasper went room by room for cuddles and hugs and has been clearly missed.  Come again soon Jasper!

Night culture with V&A Dundee

We had a lovely time joining V&A Dundee curator, Kirsty Hassard, as she introduced us virtually to the history and design of night clubs and the club culture from the 1960s to present day.

We explored the evolution and development of night clubs around the world, from Italy to America, and closer to home, looked at their importance as cultural venues and designed spaces.

This current exhibition celebrates night clubs at a very important moment, as we all look to a brighter future where everyone can come back together, to dance and to enjoy nights out once again.

We all enjoyed the virtual talk.

Don't worry 'Beer-happy'

You better beer-lieve that residents at Mulberry Court care home in York, were more than hoppy to raise a glass, and sample some top craft ales, bitters and lagers, in celebration of International Beer Day.

The hospitality team at Mulberry Court set up a bar for a real pub experience and brought in a range of brew-tiful British and International ales for residents to sample.  Residents and their visitors enjoyed a beer tasting in the Bar, a beer-based quiz whilst they sampled the different craft ales, bitters and lagers and enjoyed traditional bar snacks.

Fiona Christie, General Manager at the home, said: “We love socialising and celebrating all kind of events, it is wonderful now that we can invite family and friends into our garden to join in events. International Beer Day is a day that the residents really enjoy, who doesn’t enjoy a cold beer on a hot summer’s day!”

International Friendship Day

Mulberry Court had a blast celebrating Friendship Day on July 30. There were smiles all round as staff and residents reminisced about their friends and some of the wonderful times they had shared over the years.

The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between people, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

Today, Friendship Day is celebrated in many countries across the globe and is a special occasion that encourages people to celebrate their friendships – old and new – by spending time with their friends and loved ones.

Staff and residents spent time reminiscing about friendships old and new.  Taking time to listen to each others stories of friendships from childhood to the ones they share now in the home.
