Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home
The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Zoe Giles
Lead Activities Co-ordinator
Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.
I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!
I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.
Celebrating life at Mulberry Court Care Home

Pet therapy
Here at Mulberry Court Care Home we are lucky to have our therapy cat Connie who is continuing her training under the watchful eye of owner Angela.
Today Connie visited several people bringing back memories of residents own much loved pets and providing both joy and comfort to some of our bed bound residents.
Connie will be back for another session at the end of the week doing more room visits.
Home deliver on Resident wish
Resident, Norman had always wanted to return to St John’s University where he taught in the early 1950s Norman wanted to go back and see a photo of himself from that time which is displayed proudly in the entrance to the original part of the university and is also the place where he met his wife Anne at one of the many dances held there they have been married to for over seventy years! so staff at the home made his wish a reality proving the old adage, it’s never too late.
Norman has lived at Mulberry Court for nearly two years with his wife Anne and is beloved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making his dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to him, and they all wanted to be there to see the smile on Norman’s face when his dream was realised.
Bowling
The Ambassador Cruise Line 2026 World Indoor Bowls Championships started last week, so... Mulberry Court have decided to have their own championship this weekend.
We recognise here at Mulberry Court that games like bowls are highly beneficial for our family of residents of all ages and abilities, particularly older adults and those seeking a low-impact activity. It offers a unique blend of physical, mental, and social benefits, making it an excellent activity for overall well-being. What great fun as well.

Merry Christmas from Mulberry Court
Mulberry Court would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas... It has been so lovely to welcome so many family members and friends into our home to join our Christmas festivities.
Special mention to chef Ian and our kitchen team as everyone said how delicious their meals were. We finished off by coming together and listening to HM The king as he gave his annual address.

Mayor attends Christmas Fayre
Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together to enjoy a wonderful Christmas Fete. In attendance was the Lord Mayor of York Martin Rowley BEM and his Sherriff. There were all kinds of stalls on offer manned by volunteers, friends and family and lots of local stall holders came along to sell their wares too from local honey to lovely craft items, handmade jewellery and cards etc, the list goes on!
The team at Mulberry court care home would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who either manned a stall, donated a raffle prize or who came along to support the home. There was a fantastic atmosphere and in total the home raised over three hundred and fifty pounds which is brilliant.
Minibus trip
The Mulberry Court Care Home – Barchester Healthcare minibus has been out on its travels again today. Four of our lovely ladies wrapped up warmly as we headed out for Thirsk garden centre. Along the way, we spotted signs spring was on the horizon with beautiful snowdrops breaking up the landscape and the first lambs of the season.
On arrival, we had a look around before heading to their restaurant where we all enjoyed a delicious spread. After lunch, our ladies made their final choices before heading for the tills, then back to our home, arriving just in time for the afternoon tea trolley. We shall be heading out again to various locations as the weather hopefully improves.
Mobile Police Museum
Here at Mulberry Court Care Home – Barchester Healthcare, we have certainly had a fun-packed educational afternoon as we welcomed Dave from the mobile police museum to our home.
Dave was a serving officer himself, having been based in West Yorkshire, including Bradford, where the Bradford police museum building is situated. Since retiring, he now brings the mobile museum to those who can't get to the Bradford museum itself.
Or navigate around the building.
Everyone listened with great interest as Dave took us through the history of the police force from the 1800s to the modern day. Everyone was able to hold and look at the artifacts in great detail and try on hats and uniforms, which created so many happy smiles.
We are looking forward to welcoming Dave back at a later date to hear more on the topic of the mounted police and the role they play, from supporting at football matches to being on the front line.

Mulberry Court Panto
Here at Mulberry Court, we were gifted some pantomime tickets, so a few residents along with members of our team headed out on a cold and wet afternoon to York’s Grand opera house to see Cinderella.
The classic story was told along with songs and spectacular costumes as well as the usual sprinkle of traditional pantomime humour.
Everyone had a marvellous time and really enjoyed the performance.

Happy New Year from Mulberry Court
Here at Mulberry Court Care Home – Barchester Healthcare we have done our final activity of the year and hosted a "cheese and wine afternoon." It was so wonderful to see so many residents attending with their families and new friendships forming.
We have certainly had a busy year, from celebrating all the usual anniversaries/events such as Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, and Easter, to mention but a few, to marking the 80th anniversary of VE day, to our Viking invasion and, of course, ending the year with not one but two national television broadcasts as featured on BBC Ones "The one Show" and ITV's "This Morning". Here's to many more memories being made next year!
Thank you everyone for your continued support to Chantana, Mike and I (Zoe) from activities, and I'm sure I speak for all our wonderful staff in wishing everyone a very happy and healthy new year.

Mulberry Court makes national TV
Wow, what a morning we had here at Mulberry Court Care Home – Barchester Healthcare as we welcomed ITVs "This Morning" into our home!
As local youngsters, George and Stanley, continued their twelve acts of kindness and the coverage continued to grow, This Morning's production team contacted our home and asked if they could film, so, of course, we said yes.
The section was presented by former Coronation Street star Colson Smith, who was lovely and spent time chatting to everyone.
Here are just a few pictures from today. Thank you to all our wonderful residents who appeared on camera...and those who were watching in the wings and on TVs throughout our home.
Random acts of kindness
Today at Mulberry Court we have had some very special young visitors. George and Stanley, as well as their mum Sophie and grandma Carol all come as part of the boys' "acts of kindness" through December.
They were inspired to do kind acts after seeing a TV programme, and decided to combine it with raising funds for the hospice their mum works for. So far they have raised over £500!!!
They gave residents handmade cards and brought in some treats too, for everyone to share. Resident Jean, a keen knitter, was so inspired by the boys she donated a shawl/blanket she'd made to be passed onto someone at the hospice, proof that a little kindness goes a long way, and long make it continue.
We wish the boys continued success and hope your radio interview in the morning goes well, along with your other kind acts.
Here are a few pictures from this morning, with kind permission from the boy's mum, Sophie.
