Activities at Mulberry Court Care Home
The team at Mulberry Court works hard to support and encourage residents to participate in both group and individual activities, based around their preferences and lifestyle choices. We take time to get to know each person, sitting with them and listening to them speak about their lives, interests, and aspirations. We have access to our own minibus so outings to nearby places of interest are available; for example local museums, art galleries, garden centres, and public houses. We also host themed evenings, such as 'Quiz and Meal-in-a-Basket', 'The Races (Greyhounds, Horses)', and 'Takeaway and Movie Night' that we also encourage relatives to come to. We believe lifestyle choices and activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, and it is essential that we help residents to have fulfilling and enjoyable lives.
Zoe Giles
Hi my name is Zoe I am the lead activities co-ordinator here at Mulberry Court, I started in January 2024 having previously worked at another care home on reception, however I started doing more and more activities with the resident’s there so when I got the chance to move across to a Barchester home and do the role of lead I took the opportunity.
I have always enjoyed organising and am usually the one in the family who brings everyone together and sorts things so I feel I have found my true calling!
I am so lucky to be able to say I love my job, no two days are ever the same, although every day is so rewarding and to know I have made a difference to someone is the greatest feeling whether that’s through a group activity or an individual room visit to even stopping and saying a few words to them.

Life at Mulberry Court Care Home
Home ham it up for Chinese New Year
Mulberry Court in York welcomed the ‘Year of the Ox’ with a day of celebration and activities, which were a delight for staff, residents of the home.
Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, lucky red envelopes were exchanged and the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns. The chef cooked up an oriental feast with pots of Chinese tea to sit and drink with the residents.
Fiona Christie, General Manager of Barchester Mulberry Court saw the occasion as the perfect opportunity for residents to do something different, and bring the popular celebrations going on around the home.
Home raise funds for charity
Staff and residents at Mulberry Court care home have been marking World Cancer Day by fundraising to support this worthy cause.
The staff and residents marked the day by discussing how cancer had affected their lives and the lives of their loved ones. They organised a bake sale to raise money for charity.
General Manager, Fiona Christie said: “Cancer affects so many people, we all know someone who has had or is fighting cancer so we felt it was important to recognise this day and to raise some money to help fund vital cancer research. We’re so pleased that we were able to raise £35.00 with our cake sale which we are donating to charity”.
Residents explore World Wetlands Day
Staff and residents at Baychester’s Mulberry Court care home in York have been learning about some of the world’s most biodiverse habitats for World Wetlands Day on 2nd February.
Residents and staff had a brilliant time learning about all the different species that live in our wetlands. They went on a virtual tour of some wetlands and had a quiz to identify the animals, birds and plants that inhabit these wonderful spaces.
What's not to love about Chocolate!
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Mulberry Court care home had a fantastic time celebrating International Chocolate Cake Day, surely one of the best days of the year!
Overseen by the homes life enrichment team, staff and residents were served up a selection of different mouth-watering chocolate cakes from chocolate logs to cupcakes.
General Manager, Fiona Christie said: “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was an International Chocolate Cake Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – everyone loves chocolate cake and even better when there is a good excuse to eat it!”
Residents create their 'Van Goghs'
Residents at Mulberry Court celebrated International Flower Day which took place on 19thJanuary.
International Flower Day promotes the psychological boost that flowers can give to people. From growing and nurturing plants and flowers, to gifting flowers to show love and appreciation, and sometimes just the simple act of admiring their beauty – flowers have the power to make someone’s day.
Residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day including creating their own versions of Van Gogh's sunflower. Their collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.
Residents put on their 'blue suede shoes'
The king was in the building as residents celebrated what would have been Elvis’s 85th birthday with a fun-filled day of Elvis themed activities from baking buns (a popular activity of the home) adding Elvis’s faces on to complete the day and testing their knowledge with a specially prepared Elvis Quiz
