Activities at Newington Court Care Home

Our Activities Coordinator here at Newington Court constantly strives to mentally and physically stimulate those we support in our home. We have our own minibus enabling residents to go shopping, to the local garden centre, out for fish and chips, and for boat trips in the summer. We also have regular visits from the PAT dog, musicians and entertainers. We hold cheese and wine evenings for residents and their families and our residents attend services at the local school for Remembrance Day and Christmas. The junior school also come in and sing for our residents at Christmas. The residents also attended a Christmas Party held at a local Grammar School hosted by the students.

Jo English

Activities Coordinator

I joined Newington Court in September 2021. After working as a Carer in September 2022 I became the Lead Activities Co-coordinator. It is a pleasure to care for our residents and make sure that their needs are met to the highest standards. Every day is different but it is a very rewarding job and gives a great sense of satisfaction. I am looking forward to ensuring that our residents are getting an enriched lifestyle and by getting to know them on a one-to-one basis making sure that we cater to everyone’s needs and interests.

Armchair Yoga with Kerry

Our residents enjoyed another new activity at Newington Court – Armchair Yoga with Kerry.

Armchair yoga is a great way for older adults to get the wonderful health benefits of yoga. Staying seated while doing yoga means that those who aren’t so flexible can safely do the exercises.

It’s a fun activity to do together and you get the health benefits too!

Coronation Celebrations

Here at Newington Court we celebrated King Charles' coronation with a Big Lunch party.  Our amazing kitchen team laid on a beautiful buffet lunch and residents and their families came together to enjoy the food and entertainment.  Lunch was followed by a  'Royal' sing-a-long with one of our residents  favourite singers, Peter Kneebone, followed by games and quizzes.  A great day with good food, dancing and singing and lots of laughter!

Ducklings

We are always looking for new ideas for activities for our residents to enjoy and we recently had a duckling hatching kit and eggs delivered from Incredible Eggs. We've been watching them carefully and so far have three ducklings! The whole home is excited to watch them. We can't wait for the other eggs to hatch and welcome more ducklings to look after for the time they stay with us.

Brass Band

We welcomed some new entertainers recently, a brass band!  The residents and staff enjoyed singing along to popular tunes and listening of old favourites. We look forward to welcoming them back soon.

St. Patrick's Day

We celebrated St. Patricks Day with Irish themed Bingo!  Our talented Chef based our menu for the day around Irish favourites which were enjoyed by all of the residents, especially the Guinness cake for Afternoon Tea!  The day was rounded off with a sing-a-long with our own special leprechauns.

A Musical Afternoon

We enjoyed some new entertainment this week with a visit by a Brass Band.  We had a mixture of popular tunes to sing along to mixed in with old classics and military marching music!  Great fun was had by staff and residents alike.
